The U.S.A. did not have a standardized national currency in 1912. Today's familiar paper dollar, the Federal Reserve Note, did not come into existence until sometime during World War I, because the Federal Reserve was not created until 1913. Before then, paper money was issued by individual banks, not the government, and it was the obligation of that bank, not the government.

Yes, they had a president. Woodrow Wilson was elected in 1912.
