That statue is a piece that should be somewhere ELSE besides on 41/Gulfstream- nobody cares about it if they are under the age of 50- it's a WWII throwback- Sarasota has lots of history, but it's history is not steeped in 1946 for godsake- Sarasota, like most other communties must look FORWARD and not glorify 60 years ago ! that belongs in the appropriate museums, art galleries and history books, not in the middle of the bayfront of Sarasota- the City is not static and the City should not endorse the private donor to keep that dumb piece of 'art' on the bayfront ! Sarasota is NOT caught in the 1940's just because there are retirees here....in about 5 years, most of the last WWII residents are going to die....hell....there are Vietnam veterans, and Iraq Wr Veterans as well.....this symbolic statue which replicates photo taken at the end of WWII should be in NYC, where the original photo was TAKEN.....NOT in DOWNTOWN Sarasota Florida

The statues of a sailor and nurse are mot only fine pieces of realistic art but represent the pure joy of victory over tyrany, welcome home from the just cause for freedom. I consider them sarasotas statue of liberty. If you go to saveasailor.com you will find a petition to keep them there where they are. Almost 3000 have signed so far.
they are a reminder that fighting together for our freedom is not only history but on going which any military man can tell you.we are proud of them for what they do to protect our liberties.

God be with our troops our troops

the statue or friggen so-called 'art' needs to be in a museum,(or park) not on US 41 in downtown Sarasota ! that's really inappropriate

Daily Horoscope for December 24

Pisces

Although you're busy putting the finishing touches to your Christmas preparations, you'll also have to pay attention to someone who's feeling neglected or unloved. Luckily, it won't take much to make this person feel better, so a big hug or a little consideration might do the trick. You should also bear in mind that they may be feeling nostalgic or sad about the past.
