And most importantly, most of the people in the greater area aren't a bunch of ignorant dumb asses, or rednecks or hillbillies- that's worth something right there for most of us hey, but find your own happiness ! some people like Macon, GA or Memphis, TN, or Detroit in which to live ! I swear I could not have said that better myself. Here in good ol' Douglas Georgia it took the girl in Subway 3 times of my telling her I wanted my bacon hot rofl. I was raised in Sarasota, and I must say I hate the city itself and all the corrupt commissioners, but I DO miss the educated people you can actually have a 2 ended conversation with and get something out of it.

Why is it your posted comment doesn't say where you're from. Silence speaks volumes of shame, ya know. Are you depressed there? If you were do you think you'd admit it.....especially to those who live in an upbeat and friendly/happy place such as Sarasota? uuhh, NO! Chmielewski wrote: Sarasota is hopeless.

I'll give you my exact location - Starbucks on 1st Street. You got about 1/2 of a grande coffee of the day with room for cream (approx 10 mins) to stop by and turn my frown upside down.
Your location is shamefully missing too Mr. Happy.

Too funny! I'm a female. A rather petite and sweet one, at that. But I always get called/mistaken for a Mr. whenever I post something on the internet. I'll have to really try to examine why that is. But, although downtown can be a nice time....you're kind of in the skanky part of SRQ! No offense, but go elsewhere and you'll find a it a bit more inviting...and not so dirty. Bye-- Miss Happy Chmielewski wrote: I'll give you my exact location - Starbucks on 1st Street. helllll, I'm glad people don't like SRQ ! believe me, there are vastly worse places to live in the US and specifically the southern US
most of us enjoy want the area has to offer, but it's not for every clown in the world ! it's not for every budget either !
I travel all over, and CHOOSE to live here for a variety of positive reasons- but no city/area is perfect, but I'll take SRQ over most
I AGREE, the STARBUCKS in DT at first ST. is not the best Starbucks in the area for sure ! lol....in fact it sorta sucks compared to even S Trail, LWR, Southgate, or even freekin SR 70 which is probably the number one store in volume....
Sarasota has many 'flavours' come to think of it..DT, the Trail,Gulfgate, Southagte, SK, Lido, Longboat, S Manatee(univ), St Armands, Venice, Osprey, and a ton of other areas

If you all only knew how gorgeous it is out RIGHT now....(10:30 pm and perhaps 69 -70.... degrees.... the palms ever so lightly swaying! The traffic is not so great... to be honest, with all the tourists...., but can you blame them? The weather alone is not good enough to boast about, but if I were almost anywhere else.....Id most probably have to be placed on major antidepressants.

Flash forward to summer: It's 85 degrees at 6AM. By noon it will be hovering around 100. The humidity is stifling. You work up a full body sweat just going to your mail box. The inside of your car is blistering hot. Your utility bill is equal to your mortgage payment. You dash from your air conditioned car to any air conditioned business before you melt. If you work for a living you are looked down upon by the interloping 'natives'. Great freakin place to live.

So very true, but that's only from mid June thru September. And not really a bad price to pay for the rest of the year being so gorgeous. Yeah-- there are a number of retirees that have made some good money in their lifetime and choose to spend their end of life stages here in Sarasota--but it's never good to look down your nose at anybody--ever!! Especially the working man/woman. I'm sorry if you ever felt looked down upon for working. That's ludicrous and NOT good, but ignorance and elitism is not good anywhere you go. Imperialism and an elitist attitudes adapted by some, are mererly a cover up for their own inadequacies and insecurities (and plain ignorant). It is quite beautiful and easy going gere, though. It works well for me...I can't afford to get depressed. Can any of us, really?

Went on vacation there, stayed at Siesta Key beautiful place! Wishing I was still there. It was always hot, never cold like it is here in Kentucky. I'ts like a different world there, the ocean, sandy beaches, palm trees, the whole atmosphere. Was depressed for two weeks when I came back home.Be happy that you live in a place where it never gets cold. ENJOY!!!

I got a couple more things to add: You can't hear the ocean at the beach for all the squawking from the quaker parrots. Anyone who serves you food or rings your bill up will act like they need prozac. In town there is not one square inch of ground that hasn't been built on. The beach burns the hell out of your feet because they don't have white sand anymore. That's if you can find a beach to go to that hasn't been snatched by a developer to erect some more of those god awful condos that are 20 stories high.Property values are droppin like flies, while taxes just keep going up. Sarasota is ruined.

Are you sure you're talking about Sarasota?....(as in Sarasota, Florida). Nothing at all like the description you gave. Are we on the same page? Perhaps you had some sort of a bad experience when you were here and are suffering from "Sour Grapes Syndrome. That does occur. Even the very poor here love it. A great place to be if comfortable in your own skin.....but that could go for a few other nice places throughout the country. Best wishes in finding your own happiness. It'll happen. Just don't feel so intimidated and you'll see things just open up for you right before your eyss. Merry Christmas from sunny 80 degree Sarasota.HO-ho-ho!!

I mean, I live here and two other places and I don't work for the Chamber of Commerce LOL but you, my dear BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA friend, do not know what you're talking about one bit And that is sort of 'telling'! but on the other hand, that's fine since you don't like it !believe , me, people who 'choose to live' here in Sarasota do so NOT because they HAVE to or they have not lived in many other places, or they feel 'trapped' for Godssake ! Trapped is having to live in places like Birmingham, AL, Jackson, MISSISSIPPI, Butte Montana, Detroit, MI, Oakland, CA, Memphis, TN, or Texarkanna, AR You need to do some research or simply Google people who choose to live in Sarasota ! you might be surprised

what the heck , you are obviously a newbie here because the name of the town that shows up beneath your name is not the town you are neccessarily hailing from. It is only your isp. I have never even been to Alabama. And yes, I do know wht I'm talking about. I lived in Sarasota and Bradenton in the 80's and I have family who have lived there for over 35 years and I have been there visiting many times over the years. Maybe you need to pick up your local newspaper and read it more often. Sounds like you don't get out much. There was even a building moratorium several years ago because of the explosion of over building going on down there. I loved Sarasota! Sorry, but what once was paradise has to turned to sh*t.

Paradise turned into "S*hit" ?????????? My Tennessee friend, you seem to living in a parallel universe ! the LAST description of Sarasota/Manatee would be 'sh*tty' Are you kidding me ?? lol If you're in Elizbethton, TENNESSEE, perhaps that's where it might be better suited for such lack of reasoning and powers of observation. too funny, and er, too ignorant I'll take right here in 'sh*tty' SARASOTA anyday ! lol Have a good life in TN I say
