Hank Magee was a wonderful wonderful man. We are all in shock over his senseless death. Why is it the innocent is the one dead?
I miss him already

Hank's death has left a hole in the lives of all those who knew him. This girl will have to live with this knowledge for the rest of her life. Is there a punishment out there good enough for taking the life of a loving husband, father, friend in such a senseless and stupid act.
It is time to wake up

Although I didn't personally know Hank Magee, a friend of mine did. Much more needs to be done for all people to realize how much tragedy is caused by drunk drivers. Videos of these crashes and the personal stories of life after the loss of a loved one should be presented to students in schools starting at age 15. Kids should be taken to crash sites to see where a life was taken and to prisons and juvenile delinquent centers to look into the sunken eyes of the perpertrators of these crimes. Maybe if they can feel everyone's pain in their own hearts they will wake up and be scared to drink alchohol. Maybe if we raise awareness for kids, fewer will grow up to drive drunk. It's all ages that do it. Let's start fixing the problem at the bottom where people can be saved before they turn into chronic drunk drivers.

Henry Magee's death leaves a huge hole in his sizeable network of friends, in addition to his family. To his grandkids he was simply 'Pa'-- the older man who was always there with love and guidance. To his neighbors and other friends, he was "the guy who would help you anywhere, anytime". He had the best deadpan humor of any man I have ever met, and he probably knew more about hunting and fishing, and the habits of area fauna better than all but a very few.
There is no explaining the fickleness of circumstance, and Elise Estes' irresponsibility cannot and will not go unpunished. And yet, for all her thoughtlessness, she has a family too. This is a tragedy for them as well. When I begin to get angry -- which has been happening daily, over this past week, I try very hard to remember that though this is truly a horrendous thing for Henry's family and friends to have to go through, it is, as well, extreme misfortune for EVERYONE involved.
He is the finest Father-in-law I could've asked for, and I will miss him deeply...

My father's light continues to shine in the faces of all his neighbors, friends and family. It was too bright to be extinguished by death. The love and support that everyone has given to our family during this very tough time has helped us to get through the toughest week of our lives.

We thank you all. We thank you too for your willingness and eagerness to tell his story. In the telling, he stays with us, still bringing smiles to our faces, even as the tears roll down them.

We all miss him together. We can hope to spread his light to others, one person at a time, just like he did. And with humor!:-)

I'm sorry for the loss of future for both involved. It could have been any of our loved ones killed or that made a bad decision to drink and drive. I know Elise and let me tell you it could have been one of my kids that did it. You see, never in a million years would I think she nor my own kids would not stop themselves from getting into a car after drinking too much. Bright kids with good friends and yet it happened...and her friend didn't stop her either. Two chances slipped away. It's done. I hope all involved will find some light at the end of the tunnel. I hope Elise can pull herself up and be an example. The poster girl for "YOU!?" "You don't look like the type of person who would kill somone!" God Bless you all. I'm sorry.

Most school systems already provide video and visits to crashed vehicles for students to see. We all think it's always going to be the other guy.

The new and tough laws have not stemmed DWI charges.

People still do it every day. I do not know the answer and I don't think our lawmakers do either.

Although I do agree with you that more should be done to educate citizens in hopes of preventing drunk driving, I tend to disagree with your comment: "Maybe if they can feel everyone's pain in their own hearts they will wake up and be scared to drink alchohol" Fear may be an effective motivator initially..however, it is when parents shelter, seclude, and frighten their children from reality, that they feel the need to rebel. I think that a better proposition would be for parents to be honest with their children; eg: "If you're going to drink, do so responsibly" and make sure their kids know that if they are ever presented with a situation where driving drunk seems like the only solution, they always have another option; whether its owning up to their mistake and calling the police for a ride, or calling parents, or friends who havent been drinking. If teenagers are presented with the dangers of drunk driving in an honest, fair manner, I believe they will be far less likely to ever make the mistake of trying it.
*additionally, you spelled alcohol incorrectly.

Your tasteless rant clearly underscores exactly the lack of thoughtfulness, and maturity that often results in just this type of tragedy. You need to grow up a little bit, before you end up in the same boat - or worse. And while your thinking on that, consider how your words reflect on Elise Estes. If you're representative of the type of company she's been keeping, no wonder she's in the unfortunate situation she's in...
