The tips on how to "Cut down on checkout shock" say to try on-line coupons, Most stores do not accept them in the greater Lowell and Nashua NH areas. I know for a fact Demoulas / Market Basket and Shaw's do not, I am not sure about Hannaford or Stop n Shop.

Walmart has also stopped taking them.

I noticed in the picture from the article that she's buying name brand items. Although the prices of dairy products has sky-rocketed there is still no need to spend more $ just because the can says (CAMPBELLS, or the package says PURDUE)

I like Campbell's soups and their beans too. I've also purchased store brand canned vegetables and didn't care for them, I'll take Green Giant. If you're eating to survive that's one thing but I like mealtime to be enjoyable. I buy store brand chicken unless the Purdue is cheaper and it is at times, especially the whole chickens.

If your going to buy name brand foods then don't complain about the damn price!!!!Sorry to tell you, but store brand canned veggies DO NOT taste different from brand name.(your paying extra for the name on the can, that's all) It is all about survival, you eat to live, therefore you can pay your bills. Are you one of those people who live to eat?
CUT BACK ON NAME BRAND FOODS AND HAVE MORE $ TO PAY THE MORTGAGE!

I think the point is that everything is up, and up SUDDENLY. Of course name brand foods are more expensive -- that's just the way it is. But across the board grocery bills are higher, even on the store-name items.

In the artilce: from the rising costs of fuel to the demand of corn and soybeans used for alternate fuels

This result is as expected. What is also happening is that farmers are forsaking many traditional crops in order to cash in on the biofuels racket. If anyone is surprised about the resulting impact on food prices, then start thinking more about your politics. You are getting what you voted for. Ther real crime is that recent studies are showing such biofuels result in increased greenhouse gas emissions when you consider the complete impact of growing these fuels, processing, and distributing them.

First of all I don't know why the lady in the article was so frick'n surprised. The cost of everything has gone up due to fuel prices. It doesn't look like it's going to get better any time soon. Come on really, doesn't that woman watch the news or read news papars? She needs to stop the bitch'n and deal with it like all the rest of us. Make due with what you have and scrape by just like all of us....

You'll get there. The problem is that most people that do it are getting old. If I could have my youth back I might be happy with a mortgage.

Why CAN'T people complain about the prices? Yes, it's reality, and no, it's not like this is the first article ever written on it but it's going on and affects pretty much everyone. What's the big deal with people voicing their opinion? You shared yours.

Prices are skyrocketing EVERYWHERE. Been to Dunkin Donuts lately?? cuppa coffee is so expensive. Do you know how embarrassing it is to overdraft your bank account on a cuppa coffee (3 times)? To top THAT off, Bank of America charges $33 per overdraft...ladies and gentlemen I spent over $100 on some coffees and crullers in 3 days time.

No matter what you do you can't get ahead in life...these huge corporations are always robbing us blind.

Ummm, blaming someone else because you can't keep tabs on your checking account? That is a little sad. Keep tabs on your account and you won't overdraw your account....you don't overdraw your account and you won't get charged the fee. Blame yourself not "huge corporations." You brought the embarrassment on yourself. Responsibility...learn the word (and the meaning).

How about formular and diapers. We spend about $50 a week on just feeding a baby. Its insane. I cant believe how much it has gone up since our first child 3 years ago. I cant imagine how people with more than 2 children manage.

I bow down to you, oh righteous one...I bow down.

I was in college and low on funds when this happened. Since then, I've been sure to get overdraft protection and have plenty to pay for Dunkins. My point being, JERK, is that prices are really getting out of control - and most people would agree (and do according to this forum).

But, I won't complain anymore and I will GLADLY pay the skyrocketing prices on my coffee and blueberry bagels just so long as I never have to exchange words with people like you. Layta J.

P.S. Ever notice the music in Dunkin Donuts? Today it was like The Doors followed by Gloria Estefan...really weird combo.

hey,
heywood J.
sounds like your awsome. some of us don't live in our parents basements and need to rely on good faith from our financial institutions every now and again when the times get tough.

Linda, I'm sure if you presented you situation to the banks retention department they would be happy to replace the lost money.

in any case im sure you learned a valuable lesson, if nothing else stay out of DD. they charge way to much for horrible coffee and play an even worse selection of music once your in there.

I.e.
TLC's - "aint to proud to beg" followed by
James Blunt - "You're Beautiful"

That ought to be enough right there

First, I don't live in my parent's basement. I am an above average earning 20-something.

When I was younger and money was tight (getting my own place at 18) I understood how the real world works. I made sure to keep track of the money I had in my account and didn't spend more than I had. If I couldn't swing coffee and donuts I wouldn't buy it. The banks make is perfectly clear that they charge overdraft fees.

I solely take 100% responsibility for my life. I don't expect anyone else to take care of me. I expect to be charged the stated overdraft if I were to be irresponsible and spend money I don't have.

It is as simple as that. People need to take responsibility for their lives. People need to plan. People need to understand how the real world works. Stop blaming everyone else. Sorry, I have no sympathy for people doing stupid things then complaining about it...especially when they are responsible for doing it to themselves.

The coffee would be better if they actually put a little coffee in the water. They also run out of donuts by 8:AM on a Sunday morning. We don't get music at ours though, 2 TV's with CNN Headline News on them.
