Internet sales tax would force an extreme burden on small Internet retailers. I might support it if it only applied to companies with 10 million or more in annual sales. Of course, if consumers were honest, they'd already be claiming, reporting and paying taxes on Internet purchases to their respective states.

Some states might tax accounts receivable or inventory but there is no federal tax. And court fines and traffic fines are indirect taxes? That doesn't pass the smell test...those are for being bad!

What was one of the major causes of the Revolutionary War?...TAXES..

Today that seemingly is all the Federal and State governments think about...They keep spending more and more money and keep levying tax after tax to pay for it and we still aren't coming close to having enough..

WV for ONE pays 51.8 percent tax on EVERY gallon of gasoline for just one example.....

Do not the "poor" have to pay any of these taxes also? OF course they do or not participate in a lot of American life:)
Those wringing their hands over the plight of the middle class down to the low class continue to hit them with tax after tax also.

Income tax is not the end all of taxes..That was my point in posting this information.

Following the logic of the left here, and equitable system where everyone making over a certain amount of money should have to carry a government "identity" card and be charged for EVERYTHING on a more equitable basis..

The poor should only have to pay a smaller percentage of every tax, the middle class a middle percentage and the upper class the highest..
Using the 51.8 percent tax on gas in WV for example, we could lower that for low incomes to ten cents per gallon, keep the 51.8 for the middle class and charge the upper class five dollars and up tax on each gallon of gas.
Same with sales taxes etc.
That would be fair wouldn't it?:)

What is the saying?.. Some in government never saw a tax they didn't like?....They prove it everyday...

There is NOT enough money in the WORLD to feed our system of government the way it is managed today, nor is there anyway we can ever get control of this mess we have unless some things are CUT and new things are put on the back burner....That's pretty much it, is it not?

Charge $5 and up on each gallon of gas...was that a mistake? Have you done any studies on how much additional income that would raise? Why wouldn't we just up the top income tax rate to 39% instead of 35% and that would pay for a lot of roads and bridges. And have the same tax rate on UNEARNED income as we do on EARNED income.

I absolutely agree...but we cannot balance the budget on the backs of the middle class and the working poor. Why can't we cut entitlement programs by raising the retirement age to 70 for non-physical labor occupations while we raise taxes on the wealthy from 35% to 39% on those making more than $1 million per year? I'm 71 now and could have easily worked for another five years without any problem but I had an office job...not hard labor like coal miners or construction workers. An additional 4% tax on those making more than $1 million a year won't cause any more hardship than working another five years would have caused me. It's time we got serious about what is possible and what is not. If some workers work another five years in order to get SS is that not comparable to the super rich paying another 4% tax on income over $1 million per year?

Let's all step up and do what is best for the country.

Dont think it really would. For one these small internet retailers are by nature national. So they already do process tax charges for states that sales tax is applicable to internet sales. For example, Kentucky charges this tax. Secondly, a tax like this is going to be covered by the consumer, not the merchant. Unless of course Im talking out my ass again, in which case Ive got no idea whats goin on right now.

What's best for the country is to have everyone working and paying tax instead of drawing out of the system. Obama says that rich people need to pay their fair share of income taxes yet the top 20% of the wage earners pay 94.1% of ALL income taxes. So what is their fair share and if the government does collect more taxes is that not only give them fuel to make bigger government and to spend more? If the past is any reference then I don't really think it will help. Government continually encourages people to sign up for federal hand outs. These people getting a free ride know the system and they have their network and as soon as one of them gets something free they get with each other and give tips on how to get it. If anyone wants disability Social Security then they don't need to contact a lawyer but just someone who has beat the the system and they will tell you how it is done. I have seen too many videos on Dateline and 60 Minutes of people who are supposed to be disabled and working yet few are caught and prosecuted. Why not go after the frauds and cheats instead of making hard working Americans ante up more of their pay?
Exactly

I heard next year Tomblin is cutting out the food tax, but then you realize to cut one they have to add another or the supposed saved money gets funneled somewhere else. So in the end I don't think they are really cutting anything it just shows up somewhere else (sigh)

I too know many frauds and cheats on disability income...who doesn't...but how does that relieve people making more than $1 million a year be exempt from higher income taxes than coal minerswho are paying 35% of their income in taxes? It shouldn't! Paul Ryan's budget plan calls for a zero tax rate on unearned income such as Romney's $20 million income in 2010. How is that any more fair than those who pay no income tax. It isn't. Those who don't owe any income tax are below the poverty level or they have children who put them below that level. There are millions of people in this country like those. What should they do, not have any children because their wages over the past 30 years have not increased enough to keep up with the cost of living which is set by the super rich? Well, damn, how many people do you know like that? I really find it hard to believe that so many people in WV are so rich that they can sympathize with Paul Ryan's plan for those who depend on Medicare and SS in their old age. We must be a richer state than I thought.
