Beckley VA center under investigation

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs says it is conducting an investigation at the VA Medical Center in Beckley.

The problem with the VA in Beckley is that it is run on the "Good Ole Girl System". The director is and RN and vacations with some of the service line chiefs who are also RNs. They constantly cover up for one another. New positions are created for their "budddies". One of the RNs that was let go also told her higher ups what they wanted to hear. All that did was to get her fired.

mcgraw now,not acting director,if that means
anything.signs have been changed and her picture
is now on walls as director.i call couple times a month to get refills and go there 1-2 times a
month for appointments.also all correspondence from there states director mcgraw when it used to say acting director mcgraw.

It's probably not a good idea to put people's names on a forum and/or accusing them of crimes or other conduct. The reading public has no idea whether it is true or just someone with an ax to grind.

DDD, If we all adopted your view in life we could no longer have friends when we moved up in the organization or company....I always thought that we should appreciate how we got to where we are..and should value our friends and peers for their help.As for Mrs. McGraw, people should give her a chance to prove herself....maybe this was going on prior to her becoming Director!!! As for the additional positions, haven't we vets been after Washington for years to provide additional staff at this facility....can't have it both ways!!!

Thumbs up ... to the Beckley VA Medical Center, which received a plaque from the American Red Cross commemorating the 3,500 pints of blood which were donated over 15 years by the center to the Red Cross.

What would ANY of us do WITHOUT 'INFORMED CITIZEN'... I for one would be devistated. I mean, really, INFORMED CITIZEN must get paid to comment on 90% of all TOPIX. you don't draw blood from the bricks it is built
of.i am sure there were many EMPLOYEES,as well as
the VETERANS,that contributed to this.i don't want to diss those fine people.
valid question,i recently was in conn. for 7 months.i had went to the beckley facility for
over two years.they are not connected in any way.
i had thought it was federal,it is not.conn.could,or would not access my records,i
was told they couldn't.when i got back here,same thing.
is this true? does each state run their own va?
if it is true every veteran should be prepared if they are planning on moving to a differant state.
you should go to medical records and request a copy of your medical records under the freedom of information act of 1974 to prevent any delay in getting them.carry them with you,will probably
prevent many a hassle for you.
make damn sure you fill out another income eligibility form,and they will want you to do another colon cancer smear even if you did one
two weeks before.

It is funny how when someone does not understand something or a process isn't what they think it should be they just rattle off bashing everyone for their own stupidity!!! First off the VA has the same problems that any other major organization has it is just amplified because of the fact that it is a government organization and it is viewed by hundreds of people a day. Therefore its dirty laundry gets aired on a continuous basis! That does not mean however that the organization does not function the way it is designed, in a productive manner. Billy the reason that you could not get your records at a VA in Conn. is because it is not within the VISN. The VA system is broke up into multiple VISN across the nation because it is such a big organiztion. The VISNs for Wv for example is the southern part of WV, part of NC and VA. These hospitals are connected so that when you go from one to the other your records can be seen. It is the same in all other VISNs. Each VISM reports to Washington and they do cooridnate amongst each other. I am sure that there is a reason for this method and that it wasn't just put out there for the hell of it. If you would have bothered to ask a question to find out the process of things and reason for doing so than you would have known this before you started bashing something you obviously know nothing about! As far as Mrs. Mcgraw goes like someone else said give her a chance! I believe she is going to do good things for the VA facility unlike the former director Mr. Hussan who just cut service after service to shut it down!

systems when i was dealing with the beaucratic
system,i simply accepted it,complied with it,and
worked with it.i could care less about how the system operates.i have no idea of a system that would be more efficient,why the hell would i want to bother with that?

The company that released contaminated flu virus material from a plant in Austria confirmed Friday that the experimental product contained live H5N1 avian flu viruses.
And an official of the World Health Organization’s European operation said the body is closely monitoring the investigation into the events that took place at Baxter International’s research facility in Orth-Donau, Austria.
“At this juncture we are confident in saying that public health and occupational risk is minimal at present,” medical officer Roberta Andraghetti said from Copenhagen, Denmark.
“But what remains unanswered are the circumstances surrounding the incident in the Baxter facility in Orth-Donau.” The contaminated product, a mix of H3N2 seasonal flu viruses and unlabelled H5N1 viruses, was supplied to an Austrian research company. The Austrian firm, Avir Green Hills Biotechnology, then sent portions of it to sub-contractors in the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Germany.
The contamination incident, which is being investigated by the four European countries, came to light when the subcontractor in the Czech Republic inoculated ferrets with the product and they died. Ferrets shouldn’t die from exposure to human H3N2 flu viruses.
Public health authorities concerned about what has been described as a “serious error” on Baxter’s part have assumed the death of the ferrets meant the H5N1 virus in the product was live. But the company, Baxter International Inc., has been parsimonious about the amount of information it has released about the evenbioscience communications confirmed what scientists have suspected.“It was live,” Christopher Bona said in an email.
The contaminated product, which Baxter calls “experimental virus material,” was made at the Orth-Donau research facility.
