A story in the Beckley paper today says that the two female members of the Raleigh County Commission are having a disagreement that one of them calls a "vendetta" against her by the other. New member Linda Epling wants a piece of property she owns to be annexed by the city of Beckley which requires approval by the three-member Commission but as the owner she can neither make the motion, second the motion, nor vote on the motion. She says the other female on the Commission Democrat Pat Reed refuses to make the motion or second a motion by Commission President Dave Tolliver. Epling says that Reed has a "vendetta" against her....which is not very diplomatic when you want someone to do something for you. Uh, uh, uh! Wonder where this is going.

I take back any bad thoughts of Linda. Maybe she isn't so bad after all.
The caliber of your enemies speak loudly about your character.
I don't know anything about either of them....but to say that another person on a three-person commission has a vendetta against you....that's not smart. How about speaking about "smarts"?

"Thats not smart"???? Exactly how, or what, do you mean? Not smart to expose the TRUTH?
I beg to differ. Its very smart, and exactly the position needed to put the REAL ESTATE QUEEN in her place.
Raleigh County is SICK of cronyism and the bullying of FAT PAT. We are taxed to death, denied government services we should have, our streets are taken over by drug addicts and reckless drivers, and you get a body cavity probe just for coming to the court house. Yea..I'd say there are some vendetta's going on. Let the fur fly.
Well, as I said previously, it is not smart to accuse someone of a vendetta when you want something....nay....when you NEED something from that person. What politician doesn't understand that? I'm guessing you're not a politician...lol

I don't have a strategy....Linda is the one who should have a strategy if she wants her property to be annexed to Beckley and Pat Reed is her path to that.

For myself, I just find it surprising, no shocking, that an elected official would attack another elected official when they need something from that official.

Here is a article about a previous annexation that the commission tried to block. As usual, fat Pat Reed over stepped her bounds again. As you can read, the commission has no authority to block what the city has already approved. Pat was in office during this ruling and should have known darn well about this case. Two different courts ruled against the commission.
Go Kay!

Pat is up for re-election this term. Remember this BS.

The way I read it in the Beckley newspaper, both the Beckley city commission and the Raleigh County commission have to approve the annexation...separately....and since Reed won't make the motion or second the motion to annex, Linda is up the creek. I know nothing about the situation but maybe before Linda told the media there was a vendetta against her she should have done her best to get Reed to either make or second the motion. What is her next step?

Who is Kay?

Because they are a horrendous cable company, they are moving toward bandwidth threshholding, miserable service, outrageous pricing and have a monopoly in RC on coax broadband internet that was allowed by the Raleigh co commission.

So, yeah, the first stop on fixing it centers on the county commission refusing to renew their license in the county so as an actual company can buy it out and set up shop.

guess my personal little pet peeve.

Two courts have already ruled against the commission on this very subject.
The eggs have hatched and grown to adults and are laying their own eggs. Just wait till the next commission meeting.

Here's the article about the previous annexation that the commission tried to block.
CHARLESTON — One of freshman Delegate Rick Moye’s pet projects never escaped a committee last winter, but at least his fellow lawmakers are taking a yearlong look at municipal annexation.
Adding insult to injury, Moye isn’t assigned to a Judiciary Subcommittee B when it examines the controversy.
“Other delegates are having problems with annexation in their districts,” Moye says.“To the best of my knowledge, none of those delegates are on that committee.”
Moye’s interest has its genesis in Raleigh County’s two-year feud with the town of Mabscott over the latter’s bid to swallow up about 1.4 miles of Robert C. Byrd Drive into Crab Orchard.
Two courts held that Raleigh — and any other county, for that matter — lacks a legal leg to stand on under state law. In essence, all it may do with a municipality’s annexation petition is “rubber stamp” it.
Moye sought to provide a compromise with a bill in the 2007 session that would allow the people a vote when public property is at stake. When the session ended, his bill remained lodged within the House Political Subdivisions Committee.
“The Municipal League reared its head against it at the last moment,” Moye said.“Instead of fighting a big, ugly battle, I decided to do a study resolution.”
“If people want to be annexed, that’s exactly what should happen. I’m not opposed to annexing public property. I’m just saying the public needs to have some input on it. My bill in no way would have kept them from annexing public property. On any issue, I want the people’s voice to be heard.
“We have long felt there were some things that need to be addressed,” she said.
“There needs to be more public input. Hopefully, there will be a way the county commissions can play a role in all three of the processes — petition, election and minor boundary adjustments.”
The legislative staff is aware of her group’s interest.
“The position we’ll probably take is to make it a more open and fair process for the municipalities and counties, and the public in general.”
Compromise isn’t out of the question as far as the West Virginia Municipal League is concerned, provided it doesn’t hand veto power of annexation over to the counties, says its director, Lisa Dooley.
“We’ve always compromised,” she said.“We’re absolutely willing to look at change.”
Dooley pointed out the state can dictate policy to counties and cities, but a county may not put a municipality under its thumb.
“We see this as a property rights issue,” she said.“If a person or a business wants to come into the city, that’s between the city and the business and citizens.”
In her time with the league, Dooley said she cannot recall a single incident in which an objecting party has been forced to become part of a city via annexation.
“The majority of annexations that take place are initiated by businesses and homeowners who want to come into the city for city services,” she said.
“And that’s not just a majority, but a super majority of annexations.”
An exception would be the case of homeowners associations whose members might not be unanimous in wanting to become city residents,“but even that wasn’t challenged by people who said they weren’t interested,” Dooley said.
Dooley alluded to “whispers” of complaints with the existing law but said no group had ever brought any issues before the league for a discussion.
“We’re easy to work with,” she said.
Since undeveloped property taken in by cities leads to infrastructure and the creation of new businesses that pump fresh tax dollars into the coffers, Dooley views municipal annexations as a major plus in West Virginia.
“The big winners are the counties and the local school boards,” she said.
“It should be a win-win situation to see cities grow. When cities do well, the entire state does well. That’s where the urban development hubs are.”

Why and how are they a horrendous cable company? How do you know they are moving towards bandwidth caps? If your service is bad call a tech out to solve it. Pricing is comparable to othet ISP/ tv providers. And no not a sudden link employee, just a former one :)
Pricing isnt comparable to other ISPs... just in "non monopoly markets" where they have to remain competitive to survive. Thresholding is known directly from their FAQs, as well as the test markets they have already implemented it in. Its somewhat hard to call a tech out to fix belligerent and inept customer service reps and tech support reps that do not even comprehend the difference between static and dynamic IP and a host of other problems. Their technology and pricing way behind the curve as well as neutered. Then there are things like fees that normally service providers pay that they "legally" can and in fact DO pass on to the customer such as franchise fees.

But this is just MY issues with them, seriously how many people have you encountered that genuinely LIKE them? Especially among those who have had services in non monopoly markets?
