"Authorities say Jim Lee Dykes, 65 a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War known as Jimmy to neighbors gunned down a school bus driver and then abducted a 5-year-old boy from the bus, taking him to an underground bunker on his rural property (where he is still being held).

Dykes, described as a loner who railed against the government, lives up a dirt road outside this tiny hamlet north of Dothan in the southeast corner of the state. His home is just off the main road north to the state capital of Montgomery, about 80 miles away.
Michael Creel said Dykes kept to himself and listened a lot to conservative talk radio.

"He was very into what's going on with the nation and the politics and all the laws being made. The things he didn't agree with, he would ventilate," he said.

James Arrington, police chief of the neighboring town of Pinckard, put it differently. "He's against the government, starting with Obama on down," he said."

After reading some of the comments on the Sandy Hook Hoax topic as well as some others this morning I wonder how many more incidents like this we will have. It seems half the country has gone insane.

No one complained about him when he was fighting a war for you. Maybe he's one of the 22 each day that want to commit suicide. Who's fault IS this?

Point taken.. and You're right of course... Hopefully, the best we can hope for now is for him to let the boy go and spend the rest of his life in a mental institution....He DID kill a man in cold blood and kidnap a child.

He could give up of course, but if anything happens to the child, they will kill him...

Yes, but that's why he took the child. No way he planned on getting away with this. I honesty don't see where killing the child will accomplish anything for him except speed things up

Agreed...I worry he may decide to go out in a blaze of glory or suicide.. hope he doesn't feel the need to take the child with him.....Guy isn't exactly a poster boy for the mentally stable.. Hard to figure exactly what his game plan is.

At this point I just hope he's got plenty of food and maybe one day he will come to his senses.

I don't know, you patrol your property at night with a rifle and flashlight, build a speed bump out of mud and then shoot at your neighbors when they drive over it, and then you jump aboard a school bus, shoot and kill the driver and abduct a 5 year old....then...you take said 5 year old hostage for over 6 days in a bunker...
YOU idiot, I don't think he's going to "cone to his senses". Get the fuc% outta here.
Oh, I forgot. KMA

You also have to feel for them for what they HAD to go through.

So, does this man deserve to be killed, get life in prison, or do you think he deserves help.

I don't know, nor am I defending him. Just wondering what you think.

I wonder if it depends on what you have within you when you start out in a war or does it depend on your experiences during "your" war. My brother who was in the Korean war received a Bronze Star for bravery but I've always felt that war ruined his life, he never became the man he should have. My husband and my brother in law who served in Vietnam both received a couple of Bronze Stars each (they were both career military and both served two tours)but both went on to live exemplary lives. But maybe neither one of them ever experienced what my poor brother did on the front lines in face to face combat. I know for a fact it was face to face for my brother but not for my other relatives.
