Personally I dont think I will see much effect-my employers may eventually have some hard choices to make.I realize a lot of topix followers depend on SS SSI and fed assistance and will be effected from the beginning. So how will it effect you and others that you know?

As I am independently employeed in a field that is thriving and will continue to do so, I do not believe I will be "affected" in any way.
But you sure seem to have a tight wedgie in your pants over people that are receiving their Social Security Retirement. I do believe they worked and paid into this fund. Why should they not get what they well deserve. Now as with any monetary program, there are those that do not deserve SSI, but the democrats seem to feel that if one deserves it, so do all. Same with welfare and extending unemployment. The democrats wild and uncontrolled spending is what will shut this government down. Hope it does not "affect" you too greatly. But the "effect" that you may get could look like fireworks!

By putting "affect" and "effect" in quotes you appear to think that LTD used the wrong word....he didn't. Also, I don't know why you think he's upset over people who receive Social Security...I think you read too much into his words. Not that he can't defend himself but I just wanted to put in my two cents. Topix is boring tonight.

Social Security payments will not be impacted at all, they will continue to be paid. SSI and unemployment payments made to States for distribution could be impacted. Even though the Fed Gov't will "shut down" many critical services will continue as established in an established Operational Plan.

As to your question, for me it will mean long, frustrating days of work tryng to find reasonable, responsible Congressional Staffers to resolve this stupidity in a fashion acceptable to their bosses.

Why do people on this site feel compelled to point out spelling and puncuation on this site?Imself taught as typing goes and I SUCK at it.I dont even use the same home keys most people do.If this was a paper going to a professor I assure you it would meet your standards. Now to the meat-You are correct the way I asked does seem somewhat condesending-it wasnt intentional-no offense meant.Responders should all use XX as a screenname not looking to label anybody.I have people close to me that atre going to be in serious crap if their SS check doesnt show up.I know others on Unemployment that need those foodstamps. This bothers me as it should. As for SS and medicare you can bet when I become elligable Ill be signing up-no shame in that whatsoever.Thats a long ways away I hope its still govt run then.

Social Security will not be impacted, food stamps will not be impacted, unemployment comes from the State-using Federal funds for the long time unemployed-if the State is out of funds payment could be a problem on a State by State basis.

I did not point out that you were using an incorrect word. I allowed that I might be incorrect in how I was interpreting how you were using the term. Everyone makes grammatical mistakes. Even teachers. Heard one on tv speaking about the situation in Wisconsin and they stated that teachers were being "villainated". I would have chosen the word villainized. But I digress from the original subject.
By the way I am not one to criticise another's typing skills, etc. I actually had not noticed anything wrong with what you typed. What struck me was just as you stated above, you seemed condescending.
I do tend to agree with much that you say in your response. But if things do not begin to change and the spending is not brought under control we may not have the opportunity to experience that first SS check. Nothing is guaranteed in this life except taxes and death. I am willing to listen to anyones political views. But some on here only know how to rant, not discuss. I do look forward to seeing the opinions of others as to what they would do if this did actually happen. My true response would be that we would be living in a world of utter chaos.

"Right now, all around the country, federal agencies are making plans for an orderly way to shut down nonessential services if Congress fails to do anything to keep the boat afloat next week. The air traffic controllers will stay on the job, but I would not plan any visits to a national park if I were you.

Hundreds of thousands of nonessential federal employees will be furloughed, stuck at home without a paycheck and contemplating their nonessentialness. The economy will tank. Nobody is going to be happy.

Except perhaps some of the House members who prowl the corridors yowling about deficits like accountants on crack. They think they were elected to shut down the government, so the idea of closing nonessential services must sound like a day at the beach."

I posted this because the line aboout accountants on crack struck me as funny...but the whole column is funny....try it.

In writing PLEASE take a moment to use correct words. It helps in getting the point across.

Use of AFFECT as a verb meaning to influence.
Use of EFFECT as a noun meaning result.

Example: The boisterous crowd obviously affected (influenced) the concentration of the players on the visiting team.

How much effect (result) the noisy fans had on the outcome of the game is difficult to determine, the coach of the home team said.

Effect can be used as a verb when the meaning is to cause.

Example-The City Council has effected (caused) many changes in the summer recreation program.

However, avoiding the use of effect as a verb could result in a sentence better suited for a mass audience:

The City Council has made (not effected) many changes in the summer recreation program.

LTD,

People around here do not comprehend there is a difference between SS,SSD,and SSI.They all become SSI immediately.Judging from the number there are on SSI around here I think they feel they have earned the right to get it simply because of their very existance.
