I would like to get a metal roof but got an estimate for 9500.00.
I thought they were suppose to be cheaper than a regular roof and
dont tell me they dont need maintenance also. Just saying I think thats a little steep. Any ideas on a good roofing business .

No. they are more expensive. Still need to remove old roofing, Apply a min. 30lb. felt And they are dangerous to walk on.Much harder to flash and seal . Hard to square with house. Bats love em and bees.Still need maintenance such as gaskets on screws, caulking. It takes avery good gutter system to keep gutter on house.

Thanks aah hell for your advice. I read also where
if you put roofing over old roofing it cuts down the life of a roof in half because the new roof heats from both the top and the bottom from the old roof. I dont know how it affects metal roofing
though.

I love the metal roof on my home,it's been on for about 4 years now.one good thing is snow will not stay on it,less of a chance for ice and water backup.depends how big your home is,I put the metal roof on my house 2 garages and a shop and was less than 5000.00 and done most of it my self.you have to know how to work with metal to get it right around a chimney or such,I have metal skills and had no problem.I also went over the old roof with no trouble,so i kinda have double the protection from weather.I would recomend it to anyone, first of all lets say a brush fire is close by and the ambers are flying around, with a metal roof it wont burn wheres a shingled roof will catch fire so the metal roof has a good side.now as far as walking on it,do not try it with boots, when water or dew is on it,heavey dust and always where a good pair of tennis shoes and make sure the roof is warm and you should always step on the screws this will give you some grip.how steep is your roof,5-12 4-12 makes a big fear factor for sliding off of it.if its done right you wont need to get back up there for a long time.I did not use ice clips and you only need to put them around entrys or along overhangs of a porch or deck,if u back up snow on a roof your chances of water damage increases, just let the snow slide off.If I can be of any more help let me know.

If redneck has about 5,000 in his metal, prices has increased alot. If as steep as you suggested, workers have to work safely, so that isn't a bad price. Also i roof as a profesion

well 9500.00 is to much to have a metal roof put on. and as for you aah hell the 5000.00 that I spent covered my house, deck, porch and three other large stuctures.plus I paid 1000.00 for labor to have just the house done the rest deck, porch, and the other 3 buildings I did my self so piss on you overpriced contracter's,you need to stop overpricing your work and stop ripping off women and the elderly.now as for your home have someone measure from the top (ridge line) to the bottom if you can.I will call the place where i purchased my roofing and get you a price on the metal roof and everything to put it on. then you will see that 9500.00 is to much when the contractor is getting it cheaper than anyone else then they make all the profit in the world off the customer.this hole state has become a rippoff on everything!!

Anyone know of a SWVA contractor that could reasonably put a metal roof over mobile homes? I have one that is A-style roof, one that is Dome-style roof and one that is Domed with a riser. I would love to go metal, and stop the endless yearly coatings and never-ending roof leaks.
just my opinion

metal is not maintenance free. Remember when old homes and barns got yearly going overs, the same is true with new metals. It will take a little time to catch up with new installations. Also on amobile home you need to consider additional weight, even tho it is evenly distribed.

This new metal has a 50 year guarantee. Its not cheaply galvanized like that Chinese crap sold at Lowes & Priddys. Its powder coated and baked for a durable finish.
I'd say the weight is less than a few coatings of that nasty tar or latex junk.

This is one company that does it.. in Arkansas. They have a sheet bending machine to put the arch in some types of roofs.

Metal roofs are very expensive but require little to no maintenance. Also, they will last forever. Much cheaper in the grand scheme of things.
