A House panel voted Wednesday to place Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for his failure to comply with a subpoena, defying an assertion of executive privilege from President Obama.

The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, led by Republican Chairman Darrell Issa (Calif.), approved a resolution along party lines to place Holder in contempt after battling him for months over access to internal agency documents about the gun-tracking operation Fast and Furious.

It's a witch hunt in an election year when congress should be concentrating on improving the economy....but of course that's why the economy is still lagging....because congress is more interested in going after Eric Holder and through him President Obama than they are in seeing the economy improve. Dang, if the economy improves then Obama might be reelected! Horrors!!

They are such children and shouldn't be in charge of the pigpen let alone the federal government.

Holder pushes Fast and Furious blame toward Bush admin in House hearing

Oops, Holder has to retract -- and not blame Bush --

In a second major retraction over its version of the the gun-walking scandal, the Justice Department has retracted Attorney General Eric Holder's charge in a hearing last week that his Bush administration predecessor had been briefed on the affair.

In a memo just released by Sen. Chuck Grassley, the Iowa senator reveals that Holder also didn't apologize to former Attorney General Michael Mukasey for dragging him into the Fast & Furious scandal that is headed for a major legal clash and likely contempt of Congress charge against Holder.

A witch hunt? ROTFLMAO

How long has the committee been trying to get information?

An Border Agent was killed around Dec. 14-15, 2010.

This investigation has gone on so long there's a book out about it - I just hope we get the final chapter. Holder AND Obama GONE - Shortly!!

BOOK REVIEW:'Fast and Furious': Obama, Holder Can Run But They Can't Hide This Bone-Headed Operation -- Or Can They?

Drawing on never-before-published documents including emails, memos, and policy outlines, plus one-on-one interviews with whistleblowers involved in the scandal and anonymous sources, Pavlich proves to my satisfaction that the Obama-Holder operation was ill-conceived from the start and that the Obama Administration is seriously covering it up.

Determined members of Congress like Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah (he's the guy who reportedly sleeps on a sofa in his office, rather than spending money on an apartment) haven't given up. On Friday, April 6, 2012, he told Fox News Channel's Megyn Kelly "that although a key White House witness in the Operation Fast and Furious gunwalking program is willing to testify about what he knows, the Obama administration won’t let him appear before Congress.

White House Counsel Kathryn Ruemmler sent a letter on Thursday, April 5 to Republican lawmakers Rep. Darrell Issa and Sen. Chuck Grassley, refusing their request to speak with Kevin O’Reilly, a former National Security staff member whose emails place him in the middle of the unfolding scandal. Issa, from California, and Grassley, from Iowa, had written to Ruemmler on March 28, asking the White House to step aside and let O’Reilly talk to investigators, Kelly reported.

In "Fast and Furious" Pavlich discloses:

* Why Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano could be charged with perjury and would “be lucky not to go to prison”

* Why the family of murdered Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was intentionally kept in the dark about his death on Dec. 14-15, 2010 and why the U.S. government may be protecting “the man who pulled the trigger”

* Why the liberal press intentionally mischaracterized law-abiding gun shop owners along the Mexican border and dismissed Fast and Furious as a right-wing conspiracy theory

* How the Fast and Furious scandal reaches far beyond ATF and the Justice Department — exposing a web of officials who have worked together for years to advance their anti-gun agenda

The extensively documented book also includes eight pages of color photographs, a timeline of events and several pages of heavily redacted documents pertaining to Fast and Furious.

Readers of the book will find the Wikipedia entry on gunwalking useful as it includes details about similar programs in the previous administration: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATF_gunwalking_scandal

Did you notice that everything and everybody you quoted was rightwing?

Can anybody say rightwing witch hunt? I can.

The subpeona and the contempt charge have nothing to do with the guns or the death of the border agent but with internal documents that Holder offered to give Issa yesterday if he would drop the contempt charge and Issa refused and then had the gall to say today on the House floor that Holder demanded that the investigation be stopped in exchange for the documents but all three Democrats who were in the meeting deny that Holder said any such thing. Issa is a liar.

Crap! I lost a long reply-must be a left-wing conspiracy LOL

short version (but the longer one was better, more detailed)- it was a scheme to enact stronger gun laws

Assert 90% of the illegal guns in Mexico came from the US. Concoct a plan to prove it, then pass more restrictions on US citizens. The plan went bad when Border Agent Brian Terry was killed & Fast and Furious weapons were found at the scene.

Simple solution. Be transparent-turn over the documents. If Holder is telling the truth, then the documents will bear that out. If he's lying -- OFF WITH HIS HEAD...and Obama goes down this fall. Many Mexicans lost family too with this bad policy -- I don't think Hispanics would like to find this out about their hero.

He "irks" me as much as Nancy Pelosi and that my friends takes a LOT of "irking." :)

Did you notice those supporting Holder were democrats who feel they have to kiss his behind because the PRESIDENT is a democrat and this is an election year?..
We do have a couple of democrats in WV that won't even go to the Democrat convention because they WON'T kiss Obama and his idiot's behind:)
Holder is incompetent, plain and simple.

It looks like we have went back to the middle ages. Ruling from the big castle, laws not made for royalty, just their subjects, their army of thugs to inflict their will on the people and tax them as they saw fit, seize property or posessions that did not meet their approval or for the benefit of the royalty, always having a scapegoat to take the blame and punishment so the royalty remained clean, henchmen to carry out punishment for anyone that didn't meet their standards. Then along comes Robin the Hood (Obama) to rob from the rich and give to the poor. Their jesters and jokers. Forward? I think not.

Would you really stand in the face of the family of the murdered border patrol agent and tell them that the effort to find answers about his death is nothing but a witch hunt. How shameless.

Thank you Lord for small favors. IC, do you really think anyone reads the lo-n-n-ng epistles that you insist on posting? We don't.

Now that the rightwingers on Issa's panel have had their hissy fit maybe they will be more amenable to a deal on which documents can be released to them....as Eric Holder wanted to do on Tuesday, as was reported by the Democrats who were at the meeting with Holder and Issa.

Personally I don't think it's incidental that Holder is black...the rightwingers can't haul Obama on the carpet so they've made Holder the whipping boy.

Just when you think the rightwingers can't get any more outrageous....they DO!

If someone else had made this comment I would have had a different response but since it's you I'll let it pass. But I would really like to know why you hate these two people so much, especially Eric Holder.

I got the feeling that the Democrats were outraged by the behaviour of the panel and lies that have been told.

I heard someone on TV say last night that anyone would have to be on "acid" or a rightwinger to believe the cockamamie story that this program was to somehow end in usurping the Second Amendment and taking everyones' guns. You can't imagine how stupid that sounds to anyone who hasn't drunk the koolade.
