Raleigh General is the only one in Beckley with a maternity ward

well you only have one option in beckley - raleigh general hospital. princeton community is 45 minutes south of beckley and then there is womens and childrens hospital in charleston (one hour north of beckley). raleigh general is a decent place to give birth - dr lucero is the pediatrician i would choose because he is highly trained and respected in neonatal medicine and is a wonderful (very smart) pediatrician. good luck! you also need to get with The Associates and make an appointment with them if you do not have a gynecologist (sorry for the spelling)to deliver your baby here.

That's b.s. I had my son 4 months ago at CAMC Women's & Children's & I never once seen a student anywhere in the maternity ward let alone working on a patient... my next child I will walk to Charleston before i let any Dr in Beckley touch me or my baby...

Raleigh general is the only place in Beckley. If I could do it all over again I would go to Princeton or Charleston. They have no nicu so if something super serious is wrong with the baby it will wind up in Charleston anyways. They do have SOME really good nurses at the hospital and doctors at The Associates but you don't know who you'll wind up with when you get to the hospital. I have heard nothing but good things about Princeton and have several friends that went to Charleston and loved it there. Don't get me wrong, if you have a normal delivery then Raleigh General is fine but if you want better than fine I'd go elsewhere. Good luck! Hope this helps and doesn't scare you away from Beckley.

I don't mean to scare you especially this late in your pregnancy but Raleigh General Hospital is the worst hospital to have a baby in. The Associates in OB/GYN are even worse than the hopsital. They herd you in like cattle, don't listen to you and then toss you around from doctor or mid-wife and then to another. I would go to Charleston or Princeton. RGH almost killed me after I had my baby. I got an infection from the hospital or the staff there. They let me lay there for 26 1/2 hours after my water broke before they even gave me the option of having a c-section. I contracted the infection somtime in the 3 days I was there before I had my baby or in the 3 days after I had my baby. I had a fever and they still let me go home. A week after I was released I had to go back and have a mjor operation to remove the infection. I was in the hospital for 4 more days after that on antibiotics. It took me 4 months to heal b/c the infection was so bad that they didn't want to sew me up. Instead of enjoying my new baby and enjoying the wonderful experience of being a new mother I was forced to fight for my life and endure the worst experience of my life thus far. Please, please, please heed my advice and find another hospital to have your child in. All though some of the nursing staff are wonderful, I will never trust that hospital with my life, my child's life or the life of anyone in my family. As a matter of fact I wouldn't even like to see my worst enemy go to that hospital for treatment. To this day RGH will not release my blood cultures to me to even find out what type of infection I had b/c they are trying to cover their rears.

Raleigh general was wonderful with my baby. I don't know if Karen Spurlock is still there but she is a great nurse and Wolfe delivered our baby. I have always heard stories about RGH but i have always had good experiences.

Similar experience as above I was sent home with blood pressure of 190/110 with a prescription for bp meds ended up coming back in to er a week later with pre eclampsia symptoms but progressed to eclampsia because drs let me lay there telling me it was impossible to have pre e 8 days after delivery.. Ended up being in icu for a week after having eclamptic seizure n goin into coma .. They don't pay proper attention to u and the associates pass u around to much to catch complications .. I had to explain stuff the same issues every week to a different dr .. Rediculous ... If u have an uncomplicated preg rgh is great but if not I would go elsewhere

Just an update, you can now deliver your baby at Beckley ARH. Thank God! I recently gave birth at RGH at the ripe age of 40, and I had my son there when I was 19...OMG! has things changed. Now, don't get me wrong...the labor and delivery people at RGH was great. Very understanding and passionate to me and my family. It was when you get to recovery and the nursery that it falls apart. The hospital, untold to me, seems to be the drug baby capital of the county. So be prepared to have nursery rules and blackout periods that do not make since and a few nurses that think your child belongs to them. Im, not planning on another one but wasn't expecting her after 21 yrs either. If you would happen again I will NOT go to RGH, basically because when Im paying the bill and NOT the state and Im the oldest mom in the nursery I deserve to not be treated like crap! RGH...nursery has some serious PR issues.
