Lapierre can see the mote in everyone's eye except his own. This is disgraceful. The NRA should vomit him up.

He blamed the media; and also for telling individuals that schools are unarmed, therefore making them an easy target. He's such a hypocrite!

His solution is for everyone to carry guns. He'll probably get a bonus from the gun manufacturers for that recommendation.

He's only being practical, there's already enough Guns in circulation that the criminal can get one somewhere to commit these insane acts. There should be a Guard at every school, it's just the World we currently live in. And, it's not going to get any better. I do think there should be a ban on assault weapons though.

The nra is only a lobbying group for the gun companies. Gun companies make their money selling as many guns as they can. Regular gun owners ~~ homeowners and hunters ~~ just buy a few guns in their life. The biggest return customers are street criminals. If criminals stopped buying guns the gun companies would lose a "giant" chunk of their profits. The companies are the biggest donors to the nra. Lapierre I read is paid $1.27 million per year. Where do you think the nra gets enough to pay their top people that kind of money? From gun company donations.

He may be a slime, he may be the devil himself, but he did bring up some excellent points...

The President is protected, government officials are protected, movie stars are protected, sports arenas are protected, and a host of other public figures and public places are protected with armed guards..

Yet when we talk about protecting our own children, all of a sudden, everyone foams at the mouth and is appalled at the mere suggestion?

I'm not getting it people, it makes NO sense no matter how you cut it to NOT try to protect the most vulnerable among us.

I actually agreed with that part of his statement but was so sickened by the rest that I forgot the good part. Sorry, but he makes me sick.

But if we put armed guards in schools that is going to very expensive...how are we going to pay for it. Maybe the gun industry will pay for it. Or maybe an extra tax can be put on guns to pay for it.

First time I ever heard a conservative talk about more government spending.

I listened to the whole speech. I agree with you Shootist. It's the same old story about drinking and driving too. If we really cared abut the maimed and killed at the hands of drunk and drugged drivers we would make the consequences much stiffer. So why don't we protect our children with armed professionals? We should.

Brian, that is my point too. Obama is no better than any child...less than some.

All schools should have protection, all Boards should be required to do it, if we can afford Athletics we can afford protection. It's not like we have any other choices available in this crazy World.

I bet if you go to your county school board meetings they have ARMED security people there.

Here you have to go thru metal detectors, sign in with id, and then are seated with security between the board members and the public

What rights are we giving away that bothers you so much?

The right for insane idiots to shoot kids anytime they wish..
I've got some guns myslelf, no one is talking about taking mine.. I have a permit to carry, no one is talking abut taking that away either...

Something about ARMED people in a school to protect children from crazies somehow takes your rights away?...

P.S, Look good to whom?..I not running for office and as far as I know she isn't either.

Right, and there are even BARS that at least have metal detectors to make sure a bunch of drunks don't get nuts and stab or shoot each other:)

Yep, let's spend to put armed guards in schools but cut funding for food and medical programs that benefit the poor. Doesn't sound like a good trade off to me. And don't even talk about raising tax rates for millionaires.

Someone made the point today that Japan and other countries have the same type of video games and violent movies that we do yet they don't have massacres. The main difference is that this country is awash in weapons including WMD such as were used in CT.

How do defenders of the status quo explain that?

There is NO way you can compare the traditional culture of Japan and that of the United States..

They have had, up until relatively recent years an extremely homogeneous culture for hundreds of years.
They have been taught stricter more respectful behaviors and manners that have been handed down through centuries.

We have been the total opposite.. We ARE and have been a gigantic melting pot of EVERYONE else in the world.. We're a bunch of mutts, and I say that proudly:)

We were born out of war and the gun and it also is a tradition handed down and burned into the American psyche for only a couple of hundred years...Taking responsibilty of our unique freedom has of course, been behind our exercising it, and the price we pay sometimes is steep when these attrocities happen.

That is no reason to not try to correct some of our mistakes, but to compare us to the Japanese culture is REALLY comparing opposites.
