Patriot Coal has threatened to liquidate if the UMWA doesn't agree to concessions. They're also asking for documents from Peabody, to investigate claims that Peabody duped them when they bought their Union Mines. The plot thickens, and you're going to have Peabody Lawyers fighting Patriot Lawyers. The poor retired Miners will be the ones tossed on the scrap heap.

I worked for Massey Energy for several years but went to work for Patriot Coal right before Alfa bought Massey.
I must say that after being on both sides of the fence I wouldn't mind working for Don Blankenship again at least THEY WERE STRAIGHT FORWARD and you knew were the company stood and pretty much what there next move was "like it or not". At least they did try to keep everybody making a payday.
Even Don was straight up when it come to letting people know that he was greedy and loved being on a power trip, "Bless His Heart".ha ha
I cant get over how when I was hiring in at Patriot how Human Resource Mgr. kept bad mouthing Massey, why I never herd that much slander from Massey's own employees.
Now don't get me wrong we ALL have to feed our families but as far as Patriot Coal or shall I say Eastern/Peabody/Magnum/Arch/Re mington or whatever there name is this week right is right and wrong is wrong.
I am not union and never have been but it IS NOT RIGHT the way they have lurked in the dark shadows like a slithering poisonous snake wanting to ROB RETIREES AND WIDOWS of the pensions and medical coverage that they EARNED.
The worst thing about this whole fiasco is if the lawmakers allows this to happen this will be the beginning of a lot of companies reneging on their promises and contracts.
It seems that everything is for the Companies because it's all Politics.
Politicians ARE NOT on the working mans side.

Be my guess that if Patriot is successful in cheating people out of their benefits, then all coal production will cease.

I tell you what would get the peoples attention especially up in D.C.
If it wouldn't hurt the people that depend on Coal to feed their families, I'd like to see all the mining of coal to halt right now and by the time the last piece of coal was used up it would be summer time.
I would love to see them Son Of A Bitch's in Washington with there suits on try to hold their meetings in the dark and without air conditioning and You could imagine the bitchin those on the left would do.
I say stop it all if that's what the dummies want.
They don't have the technology to support the nations grid with wind or solar power, and God forbid if we had to depend on nuclear because they cant handle it plus there isn't enough hydo dams either. 3 out of the 4 of those power sources are NOT good for the environment anyway you bunch of stupid tree huggers so I say shut the mother down and watch them whine shall we.

That may be THE dumbest thing I've ever read. Explain to me how coal, in any way, has kept other industries out of West Virginia. People, such as yourself, need to educate themselves before getting on a computer and just typing. If anything has kept them out in the past it's State Taxes & Workers'Comp costs! Though there have been major "pro-growth" improvement in these areas over the last 5 years. Stick to what ya know!

The Retirees are in big trouble, Patriot is waving money under Cecil Robert's nose. They've offered him 35% of the Company, if he will let them out of their obligations. When this money runs out, the Health Fund will collapse, and the Retirees will be on their own. Big coal knows how to get to the Union leadership-dangle a few bucks under their nose.

Peabody and Patriot are 1 in the same.
Only on paper are they separate, that was there main scheme to get out of paying what they owe the miners that held up there end of the bargain.
Those miners that put there time in and paid their dues made them rich now they want to throw them to the dogs.
"Typical Coal Company"

It's awfully funny how if a regular Joe like me and you sign a contract to fulfill an agreement The LAW is down our throats and ready to take all of our worldly possessions and then crucify us if we don't, "BUT" if it's a Big Billion Dollar Coal Company they can just back out of it with one stroke one of their old buddies the Judges pin.

It's time for the UMWA to do what they are supposed to do now.
