First let me preface this by saying I'm not against the police, nor do I mean to discredit the memory of slain Officer Chuck Smith. My intent is find out what people know or think they know about the incident surrounding his death.

How many of you believe the media reported all the facts surrounding the death of Officer Smith?

If you don't buy the story reported by the media, what do you believe happened?

There is no way all the facts were reported. No disrespect intended at all BUT everything was painted in a lot better light than it should have been.

Not speaking so much in this instance, I've never known media to get much of anything accurate. I understand they report what they find, and more times than not it comes from one sided information.

I've been there with the media and have seen friends go through that as well. I don't harbor any ill feelings, as I feel press is vitally important and their doing their jobs, however, I wish sometimes they would get more accurate information before the print or air.

But it's a race to break "it" first..

I've heard many of the same stories you guys are talking about.

Again, no disrespect intended, I just wanted to see what others thought about the coverage.

I couldn't agree more. I've read some newspaper accounts of things I witnessed first hand and thought, "Where in the hell did they come up with that?".

I also find it interesting that they choose to totally ignore some stories altogether.

On the balance they do a pretty good job though.

Same here absolutely no disrespect intended it was a horrible event, but there is a lot of reasons to beleive that there was a cover up. For the most part law enforcement is a good thing and provides a service that is needed but just like anything else there seems to be an air of coruption about that whole situation.

let me start by saying I really liked the kid that got killed and his good family. But it is a fact that the pridmore writter for reg herald takes the PDs version and does no investigation what so ever on any police story. she probably has her office in the police station. I know that from personal experience. As far as Chucky smith, weather he was doing his job or doing something is irrelavent to me, it was sensless loss. we all know animals carry guns and that got reported plenty. I want to know why his partner was not reported on as to why a thug can put 3 bullets in your friend and he did nothing. He should have filled leftwichs a$$ up with lead and didnt even get repremanded. Was he too drunk, did he have an obstructed view, did his gun jam, did he even have a gun? there is alot I want out because this was very preventable and I it seems like the people in charge dont want us to know anything but a drug dealer shoots a cop. I know the partner testified so he had to see something but he was treated as a bistandard wittness or a victim but defitnaly not as an on duty policeman. We get so se the final reports on the gent little general explosion, now damit we deserve to see the whole story on our friend chuck smith. god bless his soul and family..

The way I understand it go a little somethin like this. The guy that got shot was undercover for a long time, went to the same guy he'd bought from to feed his own habit for a while, didn't want to pay and flipped out his badge "this is my money" and the guy shot him.

You guys can talk all you want about disrespect, but this guy deserves no respect from anyone.

Tell it to the wife and kid he left for a glorious life of smoking crack and screwing anything that moved.

They are the ones who deserve your sympathy.

I didn't know Officer Smith, but within an hour of hearing of the shooting... I started hearing bad things about him.

Not saying they were true or not... just recalling what I remember.

Did he have kids? I hope not... because with Beckley being the way it is... they'll eventually grow up and hear the same stuff... whether or not it's true.

Disrespect hell. Dirty cop got his ass shot off.Nark thought he was above the law.Worse than the drug dealers he was supposed to arrest.Other dirty cops covered it up. If he had been home with his wife and baby instead drinking and bar hopping with girl friend he would be alive today. The truth is the truth.End of story.

That's true, he was very visible in the newspaper and even had pictures that came out of the newspaper on his myspace page.

Either way anyone looks at it, it was a terrible tragedy that has affected a lot of people. It is always sad when someone dies, no matter what anyone thinks of their character. I am glad that God is my only judge.

this thread is just like the media coverage of the the incident. A distraction from the truth. And this community is just a bunch of sheep to accept this crap. We're all the blame to allow this. Its safe to set here on this site and throw stones but no one really has the balls (guts for the ladys) to challenge the athority or the media do getto the truth. This shouln't be a mud slinging thrash on a dead human, I still havn't heard 1 legitimate thing on why his Partner went unpunished and of all things, still working narcotics. Am I the only one that sees a problem there.Im sorry , but 2convictions and brush the rest off is not enough.

Everyone knows the truth. Some say they made this story up so the people would not lose faith in the police departments.Sorry to late most cops are corrupt or at least allow their fellow officers to be corrupt and turn their head the other way.The newspapers goes along with the police and make a corrupt cop a hero. Our legal system is also corrupt .Then they frame a drug dealer for murder.People believe what they read in the newspaper and hear on TV. A sacret trust has been broken. The power the newspaper once had is gone. The newspaper are just like media whores paid to lie to the people. Now with the help of the internet we have found out their lies. The only truth out there is the people and they are speaking up.We must shine the light of day on these crooks and like cockroachs they will run and hide. The subscription of the newspaper are down and most newspapers will soon be brought up by more corrupt oweners.

.If someone is killed while trying to rob someone else how can that be OK just because he has a badge. Our own government is helping bring the drugs into our country. It is a 500 billion dollars a year business corruption from the top to the bottom. The sheriff has gotten rid of the drug dog it kept alerting on the police .What a confused dog.
