President Barack Obama's inauguration is shaping up to be an event as star-studded as any red carpet, with performances from heavy-hitters like Beyonce, Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, Usher and Brad Paisley.

Beyonce will sing the national anthem and James Taylor will sing "America the Beautiful" on the West Front of the Capitol on Monday in Washington. Clarkson will sing "My Country 'Tis of Thee." Planners of the event said the president personally selected the performers.

I guess you and I will be watching it but probably nobody else on Beckley Topix. I guess Brad Paisley didn't hear that West Virginians don't like Obama...or maybe he's like you and me and goes his own road. I'm looking forward to it.

Me too! I even watched both of W's inaugurations, although to my distain. These people need to quit acting like babes. Obama won and they need to get over it!

Brad Paisley may not like Obama for all we know, but I'm glad he is respecting the office and has decided to accept the invite.

"Star Studded"...LOL.. Now that is a ringing endorsement of the intellectual elite:)

How many folks attended the last one?... How many do they predict will attend this one? I think an inaguration should be a big deal myself, but let's not get crazy here:)

Too bad Kate Smith isn't with us anymore:)

The inauguration fell on Martin Luther King Day. I read that this is the second time that has occurred since it became a Federal holiday.

I think the first time a president is elected that a big event should be planned, however on a re-election it seems a more modest celebration should occur.

It's like a divorcee getting remarried to her ex-husband, an occasion that doesn't require a half-dozen bridesmaids, a big reception and gifts.

Yes, star-studded. Most of them celebs are A-listers. Let not forget that a famous natural-born West Virginian will be there also. This inauguration will be have less people there than 4 years ago like all other inaugurations of a president coming into a second term. That is to be expected. But his first was larger than any president in history.

Huff Po:

Obama's first inauguration in 2009 was the first of an African-American president. Attendance was so high at the ceremony that it also marked the first time in history the entire National Mall was used as a public viewing area.

Last paragraph...That was the reason..It was an historical event, no one can doubt that.

Just because someone is "liberal" doesn't mean they're fanatical leftwingers....just as being conservative doesn't mean you're a member of the of the far right.

I wonder if Lady Gaga will wear her pistol bra to the coronation.

The first time he used a family bible passed down on Michelle Obama's side. It seems a little odd for him to use MLK's bible, as his family was in Kenya during the civil rights movement in the United States. So to imply a connection to MLK is dubious.

Remember 2009, Chief Justice Roberts flubbed his lines and they had a "do over"???

Obama never lived in Kenya, didn't even visit there until he was a young man. When King was killed Obama was only seven years old so he missed most of the civil rights era because he was too young.

I read that he is using not only King's bible but also Lincoln's. Just watched the swearing in and Chief Justice Roberts used a prop this time instead of relying on his memory...which is reportedly prodigious but let him down four years ago.

"But the anger is real; it is powerful; and to simply wish it away, to condemn it without understanding its roots, only serves to widen the chasm of misunderstanding that exists between the races."
~~Barack Obama

So, what message is sent by choosing to use both MLK's and Lincoln's bibles? Is he paying homage to himself, by implying he has closed the "chasm" over the last 4 years in a manner similar to Lincoln and King?

Besides, why not choose the Constitution to be sworn in? After all, it has much more relevance as it represents ALL people... regardless of their religion.

It should be a day of national mourning.

I suspect the use of the King and Lincoln bibles is purely symbolic because they're his heroes.

It's customary to use a bible. I guess Obama is comfortable with that.

Sorry... his personal hero is really Ghandi:

If not for Ghandi, Obama feels MLK would not have accomplished his goals. I only posted that link because it clearly states who Obama's considered a personal hero.

Maybe he should have broke with tradition and used Ghandi's Bhagavad-Gita and Lincoln's Bible.
