I quit even responding to LL because I am always so far apart from how she thinks. She also acts as if she's brainwashed because no matter what facts she is confronted with, she's incapable of changing her mind. If she's able to copy and paste from another lost sole, she thinks that's proof that she's right. You just have to realize that their are people like that in the world. A big problem is when we screw up and give them positions of power.

Sounds like a Hitler quote to me. But the real question is why would Tanner make the remarks he did. The people in Washington could give a [email protected] what Tanner thinks. Chances are slim that they will make drastic changes to the gun ownership laws. So what was Tanners motivation. Fact is he only won election by just over 1600 votes to a person who never really campaigned hard. Also the sheriff will be out of a job in less than 4 years, he can't run again. Rahall is thinking of running for Rocky's job, which leaves Rahall's open. Maybe Tanner figures to run for another office and to raise his electability what better way than to act like he is stopping the government from taking your guns.

Well, after more than 24 hours, it's obvious the Communist doesn't want to come out and play.
The answer, is indeed, Adolf Hitler in 1935.
Now I have a general question.
"If the government doesn't trust you with your guns, what in the hell would make you trust them with theirs?"

Excellent question and an excellent point Mr. Colt. I've never thought of that. Most people for gun control are already in obama's free handout, don't work, livin' on a gov't check cuz I'm a lazy worthless piece of trash club anyway. They have no self respect and therefore have nothing worth defending. They don't have the cash to go buy a gun or ammo anyway. They say that the police will take care of them when any cop will tell you that they're reactive and not the least proactive anymore. The cops cant protect you. Average police resonse time to any incident is 6-10 minutes. The average burglary happens in about 5 minutes or less. How long does it take for a criminal to squeeze a trigger? Do the math. Police (government) dependency. Another way for left wing liberal democrats to shirk responsibility. These are the same people that call 911 for problems that aren't really problems or problems that should be handled by them. By the way...the whole problem with gun control and the recent violence we've seen in the media isn't guns. It's a total lack of compassion for fellow man and an ever growing decline in morality that is causing these shootings. Despite our technological advances, we as a nation become more and more disconnected, unneighborly and just downright sinful. I think deep down every conservative would love to be a liberal. Liberals live in a dream world where everything will work out n everybody'll play nice together if we can just do this or do that. Conservatives realize and accept that human nature is evil and that there is and always will be evil in this world until until the end of time. It's a harsh reality. Conservatives just deal with it and don't live in a grey area. There's good, there's evil and we live with them both. Hey-even Andy Griffith had a rack full of guns back at the office and contrary to popular belief, he strapped one on from time to time. Ha. I digress-went on a mini rant. It's so clear to me...wish it was to others. The god given, god ordained right to defend oneself. Thanks for sticking up for the people of Raleigh County Sheriff Tanner. You've honored your oath and the god fearing citizens in your county respect you for it.

I agree but I'm not convinced that it is just as simple as a liberal or conservative idea.

Very eloquently (and accurately) stated Liza. Think of it in these terms as well to illustrate the points we're making.
Just because we have a fire dept. in every city, town, community, in the USA no one is telling you you shouldn't have a fire extinguisher in your home.
If you have a fire, of course you call the fire dept., but you also don't just sit around watching the house burn,(5-10 Min response time right?) you grab your fire extinguisher and try your best to put out the fire.
Common sense would dictate you apply the same reasoning to a burglary or home invasion (5-10 Min response) with your firearms, would it not?

Well the AR 15 is equal to to a full size fire truck. Who keep one in their garage?

Again, more left wing, liberal misinformation. The AR15 is actually a pipsqueak of a gun. In fact, the U.S. military adopted the 5.56 round for its non lethality and NATO compliance, in addition to the fact that grunts in Vietnam could carry more ammunition into firefights in the jungle than they could with the 7.62 round used in the M14. The liberal media has programmed the U.S. citizenry to subconsciously negatively react the instance they see an all black semi auto rifle, simply because "it looks mean." The mentality behind the 5.56 round (or .223) when used in combat is the quantity of ammunition that can be carried due to its small size, and the fact that (verify this info with any returning combat vet from Afghanistan or Iraq) the round fired from an M16 is far more likely to injure an enemy than immediately kill him. In so doing, not just a single enemy is removed from the fight by a single death, now he is injured and he requires the assistance of 2 more of his comrades to remove him from the battlefield and apply first aid. The single shot that wounded the enemy soldier has now removed 3 enemies from the battle with one shot, as opposed to the one shot, one kill philosophy. The truth of the matter is, the Remington model 700, chambered in 30.06, one of the most popular deer rifles ever produced, could potentially be one of the most capable and effective combat weapons ever. Yet no one is talking about that rifle because it doesnt "look" evil. The remington 700 rifle has been in use since Vietnam by police and military snipers and it uses a devastating round. Chances are that your neighbor has one in his house right now though. Despite these facts, the liberal democratic media and politicians are publicly exhibiting their ignorance of firearms by their mindless propaganda. For example, their ban on high capacity magazines (again liberals, demonstrate your ignorance-they are called MAGAZINES - not clips - unless your name is biggie smalls or 2pac). It takes most shooters less than a second to change out magazines. So, they can't have a 30 round mag? They'll bring 3 of the proposed "legal" 10 round magazines. These people, for whatever reason, perhaps a simple lack of firearms education and experience, cannot grasp the concept that GUNS ARE NOT KILLING PEOPLE. It is the individual pulling the trigger that is doing the killing.

Until this country falls to its knees and returns to morality all the gun bans in the world will not prevent rapes, murders and mass killings. It is a social problem and it will not be fixed until fathers start acting like men, the divorce rate gets under control, we stop killing babies and teach the sanctity of life. Marriage is between one woman and one man. We need to stop teaching our children in schools that they came from apes and then maybe they'll stop acting like animals. Teach them that they answer to a higher power. Bring back prayer and the pledge of allegiance to our classrooms. Get them involved in their communities instead of concentrating all their efforts on completing the next level of whatever the newest, latest greatest video game is. We didn't have these problems 50-100 years ago and it's because children and society in general answered to a higher power and asked the question JFK asked. What can they do for their country instead of what can their country do for them? The American philosophy has changed. It's "gimee gimmee gimmee"-"me me me" instead of "love your neighbor as thyself." 50-100 years ago, children were practically born with rifles and shotguns in their hands. They were taught to respect the firearm as a tool. They often walked to their rural schools toting shotguns in order to bag a rabbit or a squirrel for supper when they got home. Can you imagine that? But you know what? There weren't any school shootings then. Because their entire curriculum was different at school and they were raised to respect their neighbors, respect their parents, teachers, law enforcement, their country and most importantly...God. That's what it all comes down to friends. As long as we as a nation leave God out of the equation, including the weapons and tools we arm ourselves with and the ideology behind their usage, we can't expect our social issues to return to "normal." I hear people say "well where was God when this or that happened?" Why would he be here for us now? We've spent the last 30 years kicking him out of our courts, schools, communities and country. It's not about guns.

I'm sorry but I disagree with the original post completely wether or not you like it the fact is the constitution protects gun owners with no prejudice if Obama gets his way and unconstitutionally confiscates fire arms the he is the one breaking the law!! And apparently sheriff tanner knows a thing or two "never met the man in my life" through out history when leaders try to confiscate guns from civilian hands lol look out cause then it hits the fan hitler confiscated guns right before his ride to fame! But Obama is different he's a president with a term not a dictator, unless he gets the term restriction amendment passed then you could have a real life Castro on your hands don't go against tanner in this case support him I for one don't know him but completely appreciate what he is saying I just hope when push comes to shove he sticks to his guns

#1, Obama has no intention of trying to confiscate anyone's guns.#2, he has no intention of trying to amend the Constitution so he could run again.

Everywhere I go I hear stupid comments like this. Just stopped to get gas and heard two people talking about the government sticking its nose in everything. Then they went on to rail against people on welfare. I've never seen or heard so much hate against the government or this or that group.

This is not good for the country.

In the Beckley newspaper today Raleigh County Sheriff Steve Tanner says he won't obey any federal laws that ban semi-automatic rifles because people need them to protect themselves and their property. He doesn't feel that any such ban will be imposed and he may be correct but he is more than ready to break the law if need be. And this is the sheriff of Raleigh County. If he won't obey the law then how can we expect drug dealers or murderers or home invasion suspects or robbers (all of these were discussed on Pages 2A and 3A in today's Beckley paper) to obey the law. When we start choosing the laws that we will obey then we are criminals and no better than the people locked up in our jails. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the headline in today's newspaper. Are you kidding me?
