[Curious]

Does anyone feel the way I do about WOAY TV? It is the worse station on the air, with loss of sound, loss of picture and sometimes both. Consistent foul ups, like programs cut off before completion, dead air, and not to even mention those God Awful National Weather Warnings that not only run across the screen but emit a screaming sound with a voice over that names every county within miles and miles and goes on forever.

I understand that WOAY has exclusive rights to the ABC feeds in this area and will not allow another station to broadcast ABC when they are within their viewing area. I'm not sure how this works but we used to be able to watch both the Charleston and the WOAY feeds but now we can only get the local news off the Charleston feeds or a program that differs from the one WOAY is airing.

We also used to be able to get our ABC feeds from other states when we had DirecTV but they put a stop to that too although DirecTV said they would let us have it if WOAY would give us a waiver but WOAY stated non-categorically that they do not give waivers.

If you agree that this is unfair due to the sheer awfulness of their broadcasting, what can we do about it? I have complained to the FCC and the cable company. The cable company says they have no control over this. Any ideas? Can we get a petition? Does anyone have a solution?

I agree woay is not only terrible, but selfish.to complain, call the FCC they will take your complaint.the number is:1-888-225-5322.Address is federal communication comm.445 12th st.sw washington, dc 20554.The only way they will do anything is if enough of us complain.So take the time to call or write and maybe we can get ABC on a decent station.

The problem with WOAY is that they take interns straight out of Broadcasting and put them to work. These ppl are basically still just practicing. I know WOAY sucks but I try to see the humor in it. Especially the really BIG mess ups.
To put it another way, nobody there knows what the hell they're doing.
Just laugh. It can be pretty funny, then watch 59.

You know, you would think as long as WOAY has been on the air, they would have improve as other TV stations has. Someone has either kept them far below budget, or they just don't have the desire to improve their station..

intern:I agree that woay,s mess ups are funny but not while your,re trying to watch a program you enjoy.I quit watching thier news years ago.My point is that we should not have to put up whith a lousy product when we are not allowed an alternitive.And unless we speak up they will just continue to stink as they have in the past.Maybe thier sponsers should consider adversing eleswhere.

WOAY is no doubt one of the most embarrassing elements in Southern WV. I've lived here all my life. It was crap back then, and crap right now. The Thomas family heirs just let it run into the ground by not reinvesting in equipment or talent. From the idiotic barbaric pasttense of "Saturday Night Wraslin" (which was their idea of cultural entertainment) to their hideous news crew that can't even read,engineers who can't run a switcher or edit properly, as well as those blaring obnoxious local ads -- it is a putrid disgrace to WV. The FCC should order it off the air as it certainly isn't providing any service to WV viewers.

I agree its bad and keke has come along way however I guess we all still watch it because we are still complaining.The thing that earitates me the most is that they have very poor local coverage. most of the time the top story or 3 out of the top 5 stories are about national things and not about things around here.could be that none of the news people knows where anything is at.I agree dont be so tight and spend some money on some better reporters or aleast getting the new ones trained.and it is called LOCAL NEWS how about seeing some local news.LIVE COVARAGES or something.

I remember the wrestling on saturday nights. It was good entertainment back then . Ole Shirley pretending to get scared and leave and the show would go off the air just when it got to the good fights!! Look at Shirley Love today. WOAY must of done something right, he's making the big bucks now. Madrid is still wrestling today! Those were the good ole days!!

CH 59 focus is on the weather. woay is just a training ground for those starting out. before you blame these people working there consider the source they have to work with. evidently they dont care about keeping up with the competion and are off air like bankers hours and one has to watch 59. I hardly ever watch woay any more

CH 59 is regional station, not local. If I want to the the Charleston or Huntinton news, I watch WSAZ. I think it is sad when the only way a business can promote itself is to degrade or slander another established area business.

Its the states' capitol and it was on for years. woay doesn't cover charleston. besides its only 50 miles away. many have relatives there and the news is in a blackout. guess we must get our news from friends by phone. the color is bad just on that channel. since paying top rate for the cable, people deserve better.

let me tell you fine people we cant get woay at all in grenbrier county near lewisburg so we have no abc station and woay says they must raise there tower for us to receive it but that will take about a year so no abc,our cable company says they cant do anything so please people of the beckley area please call the fcc with your concerns and i and many others will do the same in greenbrier county lets get woay either to be better or give us another abc.
