President Dr. Charles Polk amassed such a huge chunk of money to his account but did not dare to hire a single nursing faculty with a Ph.D. in nursing. Is there any health science faculty who holds Ph. D. in the area of her teaching? A health science faculty with Ph.D. is very expensive because of the high demand. At this crucial moment, why should a candidate with Ph.D. in the areas of high demand join MSU whose future is not sure beyond Jun 26, 2012.
The best option for Dr. Polk is to resign before the beginning of the fall semester, and revamp the Board of Trustees.
He may try to find a successor who he can manipulate, and destroy the evidences of his financial embezzlement in his 20 years of stay at MSU. There may be an attempt from Dr. Polk to destroy these documents even if he is fired by the Board of Trustees because he has very loyal VPs. In his book, he clearly mentions that he fires any employee who is not feared of him. Today, no employee at MSU can speak to him, directly, and ask him to change his course. Students, community leaders, and Beckley Citizen must raise voice and ask for his immediate resignation.
If Dr. Polk continues as the President of MSU, I guarantee that MSU will lose (99.99%) the university status by Jun 26, 2012. It is not my desire, but it is the real scenario.
Federal aide is intact at the moment. Next year may be a different story. Now why would they hire PhD faculty for nursing? That would take away from Polk and his adminstrators salary and their other perks as well. That is one of the problems with MSU, not enough PhD professors. They must have a certain number of PhD's for the specialized programs. I'm sorry but with the money coming in for nursing, they could have hired PhD's. The money is not an viable excuse in my book. Faculty, student's and staff need to speak up and demand the resignations before they drive this school into the ground. There are administrators who are reading these threads. Hence why the block of Topix at MSU. If you are afraid to speak out at MSU then speak out here. Polk and his administrators need to see that enough is enough. They cannot bully this community and take advantage of students anymore. Especially our poor first time students.

It is an outrage to see how much Polk makes. Why do we not see protests at the school? Are there people afraid to speak up?

Over the past six years, MSU has brownboxed any faculty that spoke out either about Shared Governance (faculty senate and senior administration work TOGETHER to solve problems at the school) or in an attempt to alert students to the truth about the accreditation problems. Please understand that TO THIS DAY, MSU faculty has not been allowed to see the North Central Accreditation Report that was highly critical of Polk. Support staff and recruiters are still being lied to about the seriousness of the HLC Show Cause Order.

Students get bullied into silence by veiled threats from middle administrators and coaches that their scholarships or placement within a program may be in jeopardy. Most students cannot recognize Polk on campus because he is seen so rarely. MSU has more security cameras pointed at Polk's statue in the LRC foyer than in the older classroom buildings. According to the 2006 MSU Foundation Report, more was spent on the upkeep of Polk's plane, gas and driver, than was spent on "Student Scholarship."

Faculty Senate has members who are more interested in currying favor with Polk than in doing the right thing for their students. And, so many of the people employed there as adjuncts have undergrad and MSSL grad degrees from MSU that their only experience at a college is at MSU. The lack of diversity, the bullying tactics used against both faculty and students, and the sheer obliviousness of the senior administration while they promoted themselves and pillaged from the students has led to an indictment of Polk's management style.

People are afraid of losing their jobs at all levels at MSU. But, right now, there are many more students who stand to be in debt for a degree from a questionable university. According to the MSU Foundation site, Polk's base salary was $557,000 in 2009. Plus benefits and deferred compensation and it was a payoff that year of over $1million! At $10,000 tuition, it takes the first 100 students just to pay POLK! Add in the rest of Senior Administration Vice Presidents and Foundation members, and it appears that money that should have gone to increasing faculty salaries, buying new lab equipment, actual desks for classrooms, encouraging academic scholarship was being spent to benefit only a few. Sadly, the average Director and Dean, really was not paid enough for their services. Without them, and the Human Resources Director and head of Security (Polk's father-in-law), to do their dirty work (like brownboxing ritual), all of this would not have been possible.

Kim O'Tool was fired just a week before the accreditation visit in the middle of spring semester. Another teacher in Sociology was fired for the same reason. Dr. Norman Hinkle, the former dean of School of Business, was forced to resign.

Dr. Frances was fired for speaking the truth.

Recently, the current health science dean made false claim to the PA Students that PA students will get a smooth transfer to WVU in case the HLC withdraws the license in June 26, 2012. She explained how the MSU will facilitate the smooth transition of PA students to WVU's PA Program.

WVU DOES NOT HAVE A PA PROGRAM. Who is this moron Health Sciences Dean that has made such a promise? Does anyone have this in writing? This statement you make sounds suspect for being a lie.
Lets have some proof that what you said happened. Waiting..

I'm not so sure about Dr. Hinkle being forced to resign. They had a retirement party for him. Why would MSU host such a thing if he was forced to resign?

Because they have them for everyone and he had worked there for so long.

Give some additional examples to validate your claim?

Dr. Frances resigned.
Dr. Halle resigned.
Dr. Hayes resigned.

Money, Fear and Brown Boxing are the components of the university culture at MSU. Love, respect, honor, dignity, and integrity are absent from the university culture at MSU.

I heard Dr. Hinkle did not want to resign. If that is the case then I wonder why he did. He was a good professor. As was Dr. Wormley. Weird how these two are now gone. Is this the beginning of faculty jumping ship? Will there be more?

If you look back at the past couple of years you will find a lot of great professors who have resigned / retired. Gail Serdoz, Dr. Haslam, to mention a couple. Did they see the upcoming accreditation issues? My guess is yes! Both Dr. Halle and Dr. France were brought in to save the nursing program, when Dr. Halle couldn't save it she was told to sign her resignation letter. Same scenario with Dr. France. Dr. Halle had no intentions of leaving MSU. Dr. France wasn't willing to play the game so now she's gone. If you don't agree with them they shut you up. Sad but true.

Two things were rumored the spring Patsy Haslam retired. One: When she went to the local Social Security office, she was told that MSU had not kept up with her taxes in a timely manner.

Two: Norm Hinkle, in a conversation with accreditation committee peers, said that MSU had not been matching his 401 K contributions in a timely manner. He was upset that the market was good (this is Spring-Fall 2007) and therefore he was not making the money he could.

MSU needed to raise $30 million in reserve in order to be sold to a Univ of Phoenix type school that year (2006-2007). Polk was already shifting funds around because of money issues. That summer Polk inadvertently sent out an email to the wrong people and it made its rounds. Apparently the "buyer" was concerned that the school was not as economically robust as they had been led to expect.

By the way, Polk, Silosky, Jerry Ice, M. Sarrett, Mona Wiseman, Max Beard, are all on the Mountain State University, Inc. that has been created in Florida. There is a site called Corporation.Wiki that lists the "relationships" between the people in Beckley and Florida. Where is the money going? Is it being moved around? How do the tax laws benefit these folks in Florida versus West Virginia or even, versus North Carolina. It would be a shame if the people who are left unpaid when this house of cards falls are all the local staff and faculty.

Watch those deductions, friends. And, if you are faculty, keep in mind the possibility that you may not be employed in the spring of 2012. What does this mean for those still working at MSU? They should pay close attention to the payroll deductions that are being made toward their taxes and retirement funds. If you get brownboxed, they will NOT pay you for your vacation or sick leave so if you are there this fall, USE those days up.

Don't assume that MSU is doing the right thing in a timely manner unless it benefits POLK. Remember when Polk gave his "State of the Union" address and talked about how we were all flying with him on a plane to new horizons? Well, he neglected to mention that the only person who has a parachute should things go wrong is HIM. And his parachute is golden.

Great inside revelations. Will student raise their voice in the forthcoming State of University speech by Dr. Polk? There will be a very tight security. If you are there without your "dog tag", you may be denied access to the hall.

Even if this were true, it would do me NO good. I am a single mom with a life and a family in Princeton. I commute to Beckley for classes. I can't transfer to WVU, not unless they offer the PA program at a Beckley campus.

I will agree with those, however, who say just because there are problems, not to slam the students and instructors. Most of the instructors I've had there have been excellent. I am a straight A student (and almost 40 years old) and it's not a cakewalk. I work for my grades.

Take your "straight A" skills and discover WHERE the accredited PA programs are in America. One place is NOT WVU. You are already showing you aren't very smart. Being a single mom also shows you tend to make bad decisions.

First of all, the PA program at MSU is fully accredited and was at the time of her enrollment and has actually been ranked very high on the best PA programs nation wide. Second, the fact she is a single mom does show she has amazing decision making abilities. You don't know the situation that has made her a single mom. But, if you can raise a child alone, and be both dad and mom for that child then you can change the world. Don't judge what you don't know. You must have not been able to cut it in MSUs Underwater Basket Weaving program and are lashing out. How does it feel to be judged?

She is looking for a new position. It is her right.

As a head of the MSU Beckley campus, she is also supposed to work and rescue the Titanic, but she is rushing to abandon it. Are you sure that her efforts are genuine, and she will be standing on the front line until June 26, 2012?

She is smartest person among the MSU board members next to Dr. Polk. She is the only top board member who does not have the MSSL degree from MSU. She may return to Chicago, and continue her former job as an Attorney. But you don't want to return to a position that you occupied 10 years ago.

She knows Dr. Polk, and has watched him for more than 10 years. Dr. Artis, as a former attorney and as a current head of the Beckley Campus, knows the final outcome of continuing ride on a sinking ship. She is looking for opportunities to throw her MSU crew gowns, and rush to leave the ship. Those who don't read her will be doomed.

Her application for new job, is a clear indication of outcome of the accreditation fiasco at MSU. tick tock tick tock.....
