I am 8 weeks pregnant & I have been to the associates 3 times already. That place is a joke! They act like they don't really care about they're patients. I am considered a "high risk pregnancy" & they won't even give me an ultrasound just so I can have reassurance that the baby is ok :/ They say the soonest they can give me one is 12 weeks??????? I have also called for the past 2 weeks on & off to try & get my blood work results & they just keep transferring me & saying that someone will call me back & no one ever has. My overall experience with this place is horrible! Anyone know of another place where I can go for prenatal care??

Have you heard the heartbeat? I had alot of pregnancy bleeding so my first ultrasound at 5 wks, didn't see nothing so came back at 7 and then again at 10 and 12 because we couldn't hear the heartbeat yet. Some insurances only cover one ultrasound unless a medical emergency so the 12wk is usually standard unless you have issues like I did, I think I had like 8 throughout the course of my pregnancy. I guess it depends on why you are high risk as to the care you recieve.

Their practice is a joke!!! Wait in one waiting room, then another, and then in the exam room. You're right, they do seem like they don't care at all. I will never go back to them for prenatal care, if I have another child. A friend of mine (from Beckley) went to Princeton for her prenatal and birth. Not sure of the name of the practice down there, but does it really matter??? ANY practice is better than the Associates in Beckley.

I am on my 3 rd pregnancy and have has great experiences there. Well with everyone but Dr Webb he is a a-hole. But I will agree they make u wait forever and I noticed last time I was there they defiantly tend to see people first who buddy up with the front desk clerks . I don't understand why they won't give u an ultrasound we miscarried one last year and they gave me one at 5 weeks then one 7 days later and one at 14? But I will agree Princeton or Charleston would be the place to go if you can afford it travel wise. Becky doctors just don't care anymore

I go there and haven't had a problem yet (thank God) but, I do know if you go to the ER at Raleigh General and tell them you are cramping or spotting they will check your hormone level and do an ultrasound. I did it because when the clinic told me I was pregnant they also told me I was four months along and I was freaking out about going four months without prenatal care. It's probably not a good idea to lie to them , but if you are really scared like I was, you'll do what you gotta do. :) Good luck and I hope you have a healthy happy pregnancy.

20 weeks is standard. The Associates typically don't have any problem ordering an ultrasound for someone as long as she or her insurance will cover the cost. Who is your insurance carrier?

I won't go there EVER!!! With my son my insurance didn't cover them(crazy I know) so I went to charleston, I'm now on baby 2 and if my doctor wasn't covered by my insurance I'm not sure I'd be on baby 2. I even go to charleston for annuals, I had my first ultrasound at 7 weeks (with both babies now) Dr Heywood is who I go to and he is awesome!! As far as the ultrasounds most insurance does only cover a few, however usually you can have as many as is medically needed so they have ways to make sure you are covered. Good luck!!

I am 25 weeks along with my third child and have gone to associates for all. The only problem I have ever had is the wait time being long. I have since learned to make the earliest or latest appointment they have and I haven't had a problem since. I had a miscarriage in march and went in to be seen by Dr.Wolfe. He was wonderful, caring and considerate of my sadness. I placed a telephone call to him a few days later and he called me back at work within an hour. Some of the others that I have had great experiences with were Dr. Siegel, he delivered my first, sat down and chatted for about an hour with me and my family that drove in from NY afterwards. I love Toni Graham and Caroline Spurlock. The only person that I completely did not care for was Dr.Scarring, but he retired and I believe has since passed away.

I am so sorry that your experience has been a negative one because this is supposed to be the best time of your life. Ask someone you trust for a recommendation and transfer to their suggested office. Hopefully you can find the right place for you. Good luck!!

One or two routine ultrasounds may be beneficial for screening, but if you're getting more than that it might be good for you to remember that they expose your baby to high-frequency sound waves, and safety of increased exposure is not known.

I am an ultrasound tech and have been for 13years. As for being a danger to your baby with increased exposure that is totally false. I know some pregnant techs that scan their babies everyday and they are fine. The overuse of Doppler is the only thing that could be a potential danger which that is only used to hear the heartbeat.

They are now selling fetal dopplers that pregnant women can use at home , are those as dangerous as the ones used at the hospitals and clinics? I saw one advertised the other day on a facebook baby yard sale page , and was thinking how neat it would be to have one but would never want to do anything that could hurt my baby girl.

I'm not saying that they ARE dangerous, just that we don't know for a fact that they are safe. Why would you expose your baby to intense sound waves, powerful enough to break up kidney stones, and a rise in tissue temperature if it isn't necessary? Even a small elevation in temperature can influence neurological development, which is why they tell us to stay out of hot tubs. A lot of unexplained things are on the increase in American kids - autism, speech delays, asthma - and nobody can say for sure that multiple ultrasounds during pregnancy cannot possibly be a factor.

Ultrasounds have a place, but the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, American Medical Association, and even the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine all say that they should ONLY be performed for medical purposes - not to find out the sex or to just take a look or get new pictures. A responsible obstetrician or midwife would not sign off on a lot of ultrasounds or fake medical reasons to authorize them.

i have an appointment the end of this week. i will be 17 weeks exactly. i'm wondering if i will be scheduled for an ultrasound the same day to check developement instead of coming back in 3 weeks for 20 weeks ultrasound. it will be my 3rd ultrasound so far. i believe i'm dehydrated also and starting to get sick on top of it. allergies or head cold one of the two.
