Dont worry a lot of pools will be closed soon enough. Obama administration requireing that all public pools have a permanent lift for handicaped people, so a lot of hotels are just going to close their pools.

Wouldn't you think a hotel's pools would be considered private pools? A public pool more like New River pool or a city/county owned pool?

I'm not saying I know the answer. Just thinking aloud (or with my typing fingers, as the case may be).

You people are really stupid! I can't believe you would even compare a swimming pool to assault weapons. How about if it were your child? Your Mom? Your Dad? Your Brother or Sister? There is no reason for assault weapons to be in the public hands. No reason at all. Police and the military are the only ones who should have access to them. Stupid people like y'all is why they should be banned!

Don't know if you listen to any podcasts, but Stephen Dubner hosts a Freakonomics podcast that I thoroughly enjoy and think you would also.

As to the pool closings, hotel pools aren't exactly "public," so we'll see how that pans out. Currently, the greatest threat to public pools is municipal budget deficits.

no I dont listen to podcasts. Guess I need to get into the 21st century. hotel pools are considered public under ADA. Yeah, a lot of citys seem to want to pay excessive salaries to employees rather than provide opportunities to children. Of course that is not true in all areas. it seems public employees across the country are underpaid or overpaid and not much in the middle. I certainly dont like to get into discussions about what public employees are worth. To me it comes down to what local governments can afford to pay. I feel really bad for a lot of these public employees who have put in a lot of years and there is no way they will every get all their retirement.

More likely the teachers would have either shot each other, or more kids in the process. Yeah... let's solve the problem of gun violence with MORE guns.

I agree with arming teachers but that still doesnt make sense to compare the guns to swimming pools.

Police and military should have them you say. Well, what do you propose we do with the criminals who have obtained them?

Everyone is outraged by the senseless slaughter of children at Sandy Hook, but statistically, more children die each year in home swimming pool drownings in the U.S. than by firearm deaths. Yet there is no collective outrage calling for a ban on swimming pools. When the deaths are spread out and not sensationalized by the media, we tend to ignore the numbers. However, the potential risk of death or permanent injury is still there and very real. Funny how our minds work.

I know there will be assault weapons out in public. But when they are found to have them, lock them up for 5 years minimum. No matter where they are traced to, wherever they came from, lock them up too.

I am not against gun ownership. I am against having assault weapons that can take out multitudes of people in seconds. At least if it wasn't an assault weapon, he would have had to reloaded and there was a chance he could have been disarmed. With an assault weapon, they have many in a magazine and you saw what happened last Friday. No one had a chance.
