Raleigh Co. area? I think they are really good Law Enforcement officers. They are overwhelmed, underpaid and expected to do the impossible with little to nothing, much like many other local Law Enforcement officers. I know many of them personally, and I believe Raleigh Co. is very lucky to have them.

I think the people in Raleigh CO. is lucky period. Most night only have 2 or 3 RCSO officers and on the weekin 4 to 6 officers. State is just as bad you might hear 2 of them in the area. I know I would not want to be in there shoes for some of the calls that they have to deal with. I don't think they are lazy but spread so thin that they know they can't get some stuff done and keep up their jobs.

I know a few of them and they are very underpaid and overworked. Ive had one to come and tell us he wasnt arresting my husband due to him finding out the child lied and so did the mother. He talked to the local police here and found out the same thing has happened twice before. He just told us to be ready to be questioned again. Im so grateful for him going out of his way to find out the additional information.

They should be and also be proud of it. The fact is WV training class is rated in the top 3 in the US.

The Raleigh County Sheriffs Department answers over 90% of 911 calls in this county. Call 911 and see who will show up at you're door. It will be an over worked and underpaid Deputy Sheriff not a State Trooper you can count on that. If you want to find a Trooper go to Rio Grande.

Don't be so quick to brag City Kitty....State Troopers are very unappreciated and underpaid as most people have already pointed out. Yes, there are some slackers, but that goes along in any situation/profession. For those who put their lives on the line while being ridiculed and bad mouthed every day of their lives, I say give them a break and realize that if you were in trouble they would be there to assist and help in any way they could.

The WV State Police are excellent. They have always been nice. I'm sure there is always one rotten apple in the bunch. I just haven't met them.

The state police are more specialized divisions..most 911 calls are assigned to the sherrifs department out of beckly city limits obviously because city cant go outside except for drug task force. All law enforcement handles different resopnsibilities...state for instance, dont handle accidents unless interstate.. they dont handle larcanies unless you request them after counties have not satisfied you. Its really fairly simple...city handles city unless the request or need help...county does the same and then the states.... That doesnt mean 1 is better than the other, It just means if everybody has certian responsibilities(small) It makes for better efficiency(theroetically)and if something big happens, hopfully, they came all team up and make us safe..
In my opinion, state troopers are the best mannored during traffic stops which is very important in keeping emotions in check.. seems like most arguing comes from smaller agencies, but the troopers handle things to keep from escelating while some (few)others will piss off most grannys.

The State Police have the same responsibility as any other agency as to handling calls. As stated before the Sheriff's Office answers 90% of the calls in the County area. The State Police are on the 911 system but they seldom answer the dispatch or they will log on and say they are busy. There are a couple of the troopers who do answer 911 calls on a regular basis. Listen to the scanner and see for yourself.

That being said when they do answer, they do a good job and are more professional than some of the previous troopers that have been assigned to this area.

All of the agencies in this area have some officers who are professional and some who are not, but all are understaffed, overworked, and underpaid.

Too often people think Officers are just, Officers only. I know many of Ral. Co., Troopers and will say Ral. Co., is fortunate to have them.

As said above several times, they're overworked and underpaid and under appreciated!!

My same sentiments to Ral. Co., Sheriff's Officers, too.

I have to say that I think the troopers are arogant assholes. The Deputies are the good ones. They are the ones that answer calls. If I dial 911 I would want to see a deputy come to help me before a trooper. I think Deputy Johnson is the best officer out there.

Obviously you know Deputy Johnson, how obvious. State Troopers, or any individual in law enforcement for that matter, make a living by taking a risk and putting their lives on the line for people like you if they have to. I think it's a shame anyone would bash one over the other. There are some bad eggs out there but as someone previously stated, that is in any profession and is just a given. It's time for some support for these men and women.

No I don't know him. I have been stopped numerous times by the state police, doing nothing but harassing me. I had a broken tail light due to a car wreck. I had papers where I had the estimate and was waiting on insurance to pay. Had it taped up and everything with the red tape. Didn't matter. They always wanted to pull me over and harass me. Deputy Johnson stopped me just to tell me the tape was coming off and that I needed to fix it before I got a ticket. He was really nice lol.

i know for a fact that the academy is very very behind times. Todays law enforcement needs to be more educated than physically gutted. dont get me wrong i am all for very strenious physical fitness but if you check any other state, local police train their own officers. The WVSP try to keep such a hold on the training is because the federal money they receive from each basic officer. I know if u check you will almost never find a trooper on duty past midnight unless they are working on a special detail.

I think the State Police do an excellent job in the area. People don't give them enough credit for the excellent job they do in solving who is the bad guy and they are underpaid for the job they do. Keep up the good work guys!

Exactly, what income is being compared to a troopers for them to be considered underpaid?
