Sure would be nice to see some facts instead of just talking smack.
I know for a fact that beaver coal pays the same taxes per acre that pocahantas coal and all the other large land companies. No one ever mentions a word about the other land holders
I'm also an atv rider, yes burning rock sucks, but beaver didn't have to donate the land.
I'm not saying it isn't true, but facts sort you out from the jealous people on here.

If taxes were increased on Beaver Land, Pocahantos and other land owners per acre, they would have to be increased on a lot of elderly people and family owned properties where people may no be able to pay those taxes. The lower taxes on acreage is not just enjoyed by big corporations. A lot of regular WV Citizens own acreage that lower tax rates allows them to be able to afford to keep their land.

These tax rates are set at the state level, not at the county level.

What the mayor did has been in all the papers. I've also read the ethics committee claims.
Maybe I missed it, but what's Dubba done?
I have read where pros were given notice to vacate the leased property that beaver owns, but that was written in the lease agreement.
I think the mayors hearing is scheduled for mid January.

Let's quote facts... maybe true, maybe not, but this msg board is bad for taking something like "I've heard", and then running with it.

The commissioner that originally got this going, bailed out, new she was breaking the law.
She was approached by a private individual who wanted to do this project on their own. He was laughed out of the office, she said it couldn't make any money.
Then she back stabbed him and did it herself

Pugh gets RCC to give grant money to BR or beaver land, but not for the pinic area, then Pugh, Duba, Martin and a local attorney put these buildings and cabins in, so all of your money going into the cabins and stores is all profit for them. Burning Rock is set up and run by crooks, you can ride the trails free, just don't go park in that area.

Read up on the charges on the ethics web page then you'll know what Duba did. He gave the mayor land holdings for paving and doing all the fill dirt on Duba's land on harper rd. Duba & Shrewbury run beaver land.

Fool, what you fail to realize is that the worst offender for selling $5 millions dollars worth of timber off a parcel they pay 0.2 cents an acre tax on is BEAVER LAND. Grandma and Grandpa really aren't in the timber business. However if they are, then they SHOULD pay more tax. Why would a landlord have to pay $1500 a year on property tax they barely make $20,000 a year rent on? Do the math, fool. Its NOT FAIR. Beaver Land holds on to valuable property other folk could use because they pay hardly nothing in taxes for it. Again, Grandma and Grandpa had to see their because they could NOT pay the taxes, which were 100 fold the rate of Beaver Land. Your lovely Raleigh Co. Commission and your Assessor have lots to do with this as well. The stench of corruption is all over the place.
If you were as brilliant as you think you are, you would know that tax is charged on timber when it is cut and sold. You would also know that land classified as managed timberland is taxed at the same rate , no matter who owns it. So that would make you a dumbass. Rather than be like you and just strike out in blind class envy, I have actually studied the issue. I, at one time was an advocate of increasing taxes on larger land owners. After actual study, rather than just my unreasoned opinion (which is all you offer) I concluded that it would in fact hurt many land owners of limited wealth. I am well aware that WV suffers from large absentee land owners. And the abuses have been many. In many ways WV is like a third world country with outside interests extraccting the wealth, but you can not tax different classes of land owners different rates for the same type of property.
So before the next time you call someone a fool, you might want to actually know what the f##k you are talking about before you make a fool of yourself.
For the record

These tax rates are also set at the state level. The commissioners or the assessor has nothing to do with those rates.

Are you insane? Are you out of your F##King mind PIGSHIT?
Read on and try to educate your filthy self:
CHARLESTON, W.Va.–Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin today signed House Bill 4087, a bill to extend the moratorium on the timber severance tax.
“I am pleased to sign House Bill 4087 which extends an important tax cut affecting the timber industry,” Tomblin said.“Because of action taken by the Legislature today, the timber industry will save approximately $1.3 million dollars annually at a time when the industry is still fighting for survival.”
“We are grateful for the Governor’s support in sponsoring this bill,” said Dick Waybright, Executive Director of the West Virginia Forestry Association.“It will have an impact throughout the state, especially on small businesses in our rural counties. This is a great initiative on behalf of the Governor in showing his support and encouragement to an industry that is experiencing economic difficulties at this time.”
House Bill 4087 extends the discontinuance of the severance tax on the privilege of severing timber.
You are like all FOOLS.. diarrhea of the mouth.
You really are an idiot. You just proved my point. Everyone pays the same tax rate. The fact that the severance tax has been temporaily discontinued to help the timber industry is irrelevant.
The tax is still on the books, it is just temporarily not being collected. That applies to the small land owner who timbers 25 acres and Westvaco. Westvaco can absorb that tax, but the small operations just barely getting by can not. For once government cut a tax to help the little guy.
