i cant swear to this but i beleive thats the case if ... you have children in the home are elderly or have a medical condition that requires you to have electricity such as someone in the home being on oxygen my previous neighboor looked into this when he lost his job and i know with him he got behind 3months on his electric and they never turned it off he said it was because of this he has kids

im not positive thats how its works but on the note of how do they know if youre telling the truth or not maybe they ask for id to prove age of elderly or social sec #'s to prove there are kids but i really dont know you defenetly need to ask someone who can tell you for sure

I used to work for AEP, and this isn't true. You can get disconnected anytime during the year. If the weather temperature is below freezing, they will not disconnect you, but other than that, you need to call and make pay arrangements.

They wont disconnect you as long as you pay them something. If you cant afford your bill pay what you can. Biggest thing though is to contact them and make them aware. Worst thing you can do is not tell them and just hope for the best. They are people too after all, they will work with you.

if u owe five dollars out of a 800 bill and they can they will cut you off they are very heartless and dont let you have one extra day i dont get in the shape i was last year now but i hit a bad situation money wise and had it been 40 degrees my kids wouldve been in the dark and cold over 20 and i was only needing 6 days and it was made clear if the weather permitted them to legally disconnect me they would so it was one time i prayed it would stay just cold enough because i had made a previous arrangement and was 4 dys late on the payment i promised they couldnt let me have any time on any bill for 1 yr up til then i had 9 yrs of at least decent payment histories too

maybe the actual worker are ppl too and if it was up to alot of them they might help you out but aep as a company dont care if you have a hardship. their policies show that

aep are rapists. Up and up and up the bill goes. So much for deregulation helping the consumer. Big business lobbying at it's finest. I feel like I'm going to have a stroke every month when they strong arm me out of a huge chunk of my hard earned money. Wish I had enough money to go off grid. Grrrr

Wear warmer clothes as weather turns colder and shut off your pooter and TV !! Hang your clothes outside and require this of all who live there !! This will help you pay AEP less !!

if you are behind on your bill, go to Health and Human resources, you probably qualify for the LEAP , you can do that once a year if you have a termination notice, Salvation Army also helps out with that

my mom called and made payment arrangements they told her 500 dollars a month she only gets 600 a month because shes elderly and on ssi. She told them she can only afford 100-200 a month and they told her oh well then your power will be shut off. She is on oxygen and she will die without it. I have severe asthma and I require breathing machines every so often to. I live with her im her daughter im also underage. Its already the 10th of december can they shut us off because after all she does pay them 200 a month and shes trying. since you use to work with them I figured I would age your opinion. My mom went from church to church trying to find help all denied her. if they turn our electric off my mom can die. what can we do?

My goodness, how much is your electric bill total? Mine was only 85 bucks this month and my house is all electric. What are you doing with a $500 electric bill? Makes no sense at all...

If people don't have a decent heating system and are using space heaters it will run the bill up to around 400 or 500.

Like AEP Carey said, just call them. I've been in dire straights before and they always worked things out. You can usually go 3 months like another person said here before they cut you off.If you are really in need of help thru Health and Human resources, you have to have the termination notice.

Dont know about AEP but I do know that Monpower is not allowed to disconnect through the winter months. The changes there policies about that a few years back.

I am having the same problem, and even the representatives for the power company are heartless, knowing I have 6 month old baby in my home and I am willing to make payment arrangements but they want 391 on top of my regular bill every month, that's almost as much as my rent! After telling her I couldn't afford that much, she pretty much told me tuff and they would shut me off anyway if the temp doesn't drop below 32. So I contacted the Public service commission and I recommend you do to . I made a formal complaint against them and my termination notice was put on hold until I can come up with the funds and get my Leip from the dhhr. Apparently they can not shut you off if you adhere to making some kind of payment arrangement. SO contact the PSC they will help you!
