There's a terrible strain of flu circulating around the Beckley area right now. Please be considerate & cover your coughs, stay home if at all possible. This can kill elderly people and babies. You don't want to spread this to others. If you've had a fever, please stay home for at least 24 hours afterward. And wash your hands often.

that is just the problem, someones gets sick and where do they go? spreading it everywhere they can, friends, mall, food joints they never stay home. pisses me off when they cough and sneeze without covering up! and they wonder why they get sick.

Yep, the CDC has been saying that the flu is hitting harder and earlier this season than it has in a decade. Keep the hand sanitizer on ya at all times, and use it after touching things in public places before putting your hands near your face.

People not covering their mouths and noses when they cough/sneeze are so inconsiderate. But, many do cover, and then they touch things with their hands.

Everybody just TRY taking all the precautions you can to avoid catching it.

I'm so sorry you're sick, but I don't know what to suggest for panic attacks except to slow down your breathing.

The best thing for panic attacks, and it's really hard to do sometimes, is to think that it is happening, you can't fight it, and it WILL pass. Distraction is the best medicine for those things. Just refocus on anything at all. And like Jamie said, you're not going to die from them, no matter how much your brain disagrees!:)

Obviously none of you have had panic attacks lol.

& if med express on Harper road tells you what they told me when I was sick w/ the flu and 101 temp, they'll tell you there's nothing you can do but stay home and take Tylenol. Waste of $$ for a copay but hopefully that will save you some money instead of going there just to have them tell you that.

Xanax for panic attacks. I have had panic anxiety disorder for many years. I tried all the breathing and other realaxation therapy. Believe me a real panic attack is bad. Go to a specialist if you have them.

Dr. from CDC on news said people have and spread the flu a full day before they fall obviously ill. That was news to me for sure.

Your practitioner can prescribe Tamiflu if you report symptoms to him/her within 2 day of them beginning. It will mitigate the symptoms some.

I'm an ER nurse at a local hospital. We're seeing up to 100 patients a day come in with severe flu symptoms. In my 14 years of nursing there's never been this many flu cases, especially this early into the flu season. The numbers being reported are extremely low balled as well. Because we don't test every patient. If they have flu symptoms we give Tylenol & tamiflu & send em home. Please try to stay home if you are ill. Doctors can order tamiflu for you over the phone. Wash your hands as frequently as possible.

Thanks everyone but I also have seizures that sometimes come on in the middle of a panic attack! I've talked to doctors and they've done brain scans that prove there's nothing wrong with my head yet they still come on mostly when I have a fever!

Sabercat - it sounds like your anxiety is triggered by being ill, & you're suffering from febrile seizures. They are relatively harmless, but make sure you don't drive when you're running a fever. Take Advil every 4 hours to keep it down & this should avoid a high temperature spike that could cause a seizure. You should visit a psychiatrist for help in managing your anxiety. Best of luck.

I hope you have someone who can assist you while you're ill. Based on what you've said here, do you mean that the panic attacks come on mostly when you have a fever, and that the panic attacks eventually lead you into a seizure? If so, it sounds like hyperventilation tetany. Flu pretty much has to run its course.

Are febrile seizures common in adults?
