Lesson, do we have a constitution in this country that has meaning or do we just add rights as we go along? I am not saying that health care should not be a right. I see arguments on both sides and something has to be done. But if it is a right, then lets change the constitution so we are not violating it one more time.

You know as well as I do that many laws have been passed and been ruled constitutional that are not spelled out in the Constitution. One of these is that abortion is a constitutional right under Amendment 14 Section I- Due Process Clause -"...nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."

Personally, I think that the right to health care would be decided under Article I, Section 8 (1) "The Congress shall have Power to ....provide for the .....general welfare of the United States...."

so the fact that we have made up rights in the past makes it ok to keep making them up. any thinking person who does not have an agenda toward abortion can not possibly believe that the right to an abortion is in the consititution. The constitution would allow states to make abortion legal or health care for that matter.

It's hard to argue with that but I'm glad that women have a choice....regardless of why it was decided. If men could get pregnant it would have been established law a long time ago.

well it is hard for me to argue with that. There would never be more than one child per household either.
I am opposed to abortion, but believe it is a state issue.

Am I happy with Obama? No for multiple reasons, but here's one that especially bothers me. Not only are soldier deaths in Afghanistan rising to highest levels, under Obama, since the start of the war, but injuries are too.

"At least 1,800 troops were wounded in Afghanistan in the first 10 months of this year, about 40 percent of all the wounded U.S. troops in Afghanistan since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Nearly 1,000 of those injuries occurred in the last three months."

Obviously the strategy he has chosen since he took office is not working too well & he should be curbing his travels & working on a better strategy.

Some time back I read where the new strategy under McCrystal was to get the soliders out of the humvees & walking into villages to "gain" support of the people, but that seems to me to be putting a target on their back & making it more likely to get them wounded or killed.

I beg to differ:

Announcing the move at a Pentagon news conference this afternoon, Gates said, "Today we have a new policy set by our new president. We have a new strategy, a new mission, and a new ambassador. I believe that new military leadership also is needed."

It's been a couple of months since I read a report on McCrystal's strategy of winning the hearts and minds of the people by dismounting the humvees & walking into the villages, but I'm definitely sure it's a change in how to conducting operations & possibly contributing to the rising numbers of casualties.

oh, something else:

"White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel alleged on the Sunday talk shows that there was no plan or strategy present prior to the Obama Administration taking over."

So if there's was no strategy prior, how can assert there hasn't been a change or at least some strategy put in place?

Obama changed generals and asked McChrystal to give him a plan for conducting the war in Afghanistan but as you probably know that plan has not yet been acted on. Any incidental changes made by McChrystal probably have been minor. You're trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

Perhaps you missed the announcement, shortly after McChrystal took command, of the "new" strategy --

"Operation Khanjar" Strike of the Sword

"But President Obama’s strategy, being conceived by his special envoy Richard Holbrooke, his own special adviser and longtime expert on Afghanistan Barnett Rubin, the Pakistani expert Ahmed Rashid, and the U.N. representative in Afghanistan Peter Galbraith, is more than just about militarily defeating the Taliban.

Secondly, as Gen. Stanley McChrystal, America’s new commander in Afghanistan takes charge, instructions from the top are to engage the “hearts and minds”

(my note: which also includes getting the soldiers of out humvees to march into villages)

of the local population and reduce excessive dependence on air-strikes, which have killed scores of innocent Afghans in recent months."

Bottom line on afganistan, we need to do something now, yes I agree, and I want to see results.butbutbutbutbutbut
lesson learned is correct, If Bush wouldnt have fumbled, we would be in withdrawl mode.. thats a fact, you or the pope can convince anyone of that.
George w and Dick cheney along with some intelegence people flat out manipulated reports of WMD in Iraq because he was intending on going to IRAQ BEFORE 9/11. Afganistan was a big scam to get our troops into the middle east and hwe looked for Bin laudin for all of 30 seconds before we invaded Iraq...
now, we need to get our military beefed up, or get them out. 1 or the other and I would support both.. I really wanted to se alkida broken but they dont stay in 1 place and they are fluid so We probably need a new stragety unless we just aim 30 nukes at those mountains, and I would support that 2, but then we would be opening pandoras box but who knows.

Why don't you ever post anything from a legitimate news source to back up your claims? I have to use my computer for work also and can't afford to get a virus from sources that may be insecure. And I still think you're jousting with windmills. Once Obama announces his strategy for Afghanistan and puts it into action then he can be held responsible...right now they are must marking time.

I was just checking Mao Tse Tung at wikipedia.com to see if I could find anything good enough about him to mention in a school speech to students (like Anita Dunn). I, personally, could not find anything good enough to mention.

Yet, Anita Dunn, top advisor to Obama, called Mao (a person said to be responsible for approx. 50 million deaths in China and a person who sent Chinese troops into Korea to fight against the U.S.) one of her FAVORITE philosophers. Mao does seem to have learned how to use revolutionary tactics well to accomplish his communist takeover, one of which tactics was putting down the capitalists!

McCafferty and Wolf Blitzer slandered the Obama administration within the past week complaining on CNN about this administration's lack of transparency - specifically that the revised heathcare bill had not even been put up 72 hours before voting started.

Read Obama Nation; I came across that book by accident - very enlightening. This country needs to move from the far, far left back to the center.
