I find it interesting that the media sems not to focus much on the fact that gunmen is a Muslam. How long are we going to ignore this fact in the interest of political correctness?

During my time in the Marine Corps I dated a fellow Marine who was a grunt(average joe white male). He had been deployed three times and getting ready for his fourth deployment in five years. He had a distaste for the war even though he loved his country and the military. Enough is enough sometimes. I think they put our men and women through so much these days that some just can't take it anymore. Too many horrible things witnessed. His last deployment he witnessed five of his friends die in front of his eyes. I am not by any means justifying this persons actions...it was an absolutle horrible thing. This just goes to show you how important it is for people to get help before things go too far. Even a psychiatrist. I do not know the whole story. None of us do. I feel though that they should have listened to him when he said he didn't want to deploy again. Get him some help. Muslim or not. He was a member of our armed forces.

I read some more on the shooting from a different news source stating that the Major was never deployed. Was a psychiatrist, and had worked in two different Army hospitals. Imagine what he has seen and heard even though he never deployed. Probably a lot of horrible things. If he voiced he was against the war...maybe they should have listened to him. This is such a tragic thing. They could have transfered him to a non-deployable unit possibly and did an eval on him? Especially after some of the statements he has made(if true)that people are now coming forward about.

Suicide rates were extremely high for Vietnam Vets... I imagine they will go through the roof with Iraq/Afghanistan veterans.....One tour (a year or slightly longer) is enough of that crap to deal with, much less three, four, or more tours our troops endure now...
That is the price we are paying for the "all volunteer Army"....A draft would alleviate some of this, but it would be major "freak out" time in America, if it was seriously considered...

Major Nidal Malik Hasan was pursuing his medical degree - via military schooling & training when shortly after 9/11 he became disinchanted with the military (according to his cousin & aunt) and the wars against his brethen. He claimed, as a Muslim, he had been harassed, but according to reports that charge cannot be coroborated.

Muslim Veterans Group Says No Reports of Harassment of Islamic Soldiers

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,572588,00...

There are reports that he made have made anti-military/American/patriot ic statements, despite the fact that his cousin said Hasan was a true American.

Obama has said not to jump to conclusions, but I'm connecting the dots and drawing my conclusions. Hasan was depressed because of his Muslim roots & teachings, after 9/11 he no longer wanted a free Army medical career if it meant he had to counsel military members relating the horrors of war because the horrors for Hasan was the loss of his Muslim brothers, not his birthplace compatriots, with whom he had lived and trained for the majority of his life.

He was being deployed & that was the last straw so he took out his anger and revenge on those he saw as infidels & killers of his people..

Hasan, in his mind, equated the heroics of soldiers sacrificing their lives by diving on grenades to save the rest of the unit with suicide bombers killing as many unsuspecting people as possible and called it "victory". Reports are that was shouting - "“Allahu Akbar!” when he opened fire.

My heart goes out to all the families who lost loved ones yesterday - and it wasn't even in a war zone. I have nothing in my heart for Major Nidal Malik Hasan.

BTW - the last reported numbers of the carnage was

13 dead
38 wounded - shot like sitting ducks in an arcade
since weapons by other than those authorized were forbidden -
and Hasan is alive on a ventilator & I'm sure US military doctors & probably civilian specialists will do everything humanly possible to keep him alive.

Looks like anyone could get on base with a weapon. Why are they not screened for weapons upon entering the base? He did not have a job that required carrying a weapon. No one should be found with at least an unauthorized one. Not with one bought on the street.

I'm sure, at least for a while, there'll be stricter screening - but most folks really don't expect to have an enemy from within open fire on his comrades - especially in such a deliberate, brazen, horrendous massacre.

Isn't it time we realize the enemy (Muslim Extremeists) is operating within our military ranks, and decide the best course of action to stop it. These people are clever and are working within the structure of our goverment. They follow a false profhet (Mohummed) and are willing to die in the name of their false religon. WE MUST RECONIZE THAT ISLAM IS THE ENEMY!

Figure some way to clean out some of the prisons and send some of the guys who think they are so bad over there, I know it wouldn't be easy alot of what ifs. I figure let them earn their 3 hots and cots. I don't know about the draft I don't think it would be fair, there would be politics as usual and the people in the know would get out of it like in the past. I served my hitch, the draft was out by the time i was of age. I salute you sir for your service.

I agree.. I was a drafted Vietam Vet....Of course, I didn't LIKE getting drafted, or SOME of my personnal experiences as the result of it)..There is a pride in having served...No one can take that away.
I do understand the aversion to the draft, but at the same time, it's rediculous for 300,000 (or so, combat troops) to defend and fight for 300,000,000 people...
(I salute you sir...even if you were a Marine):)

Why is the press calling this shooting a rampage. This was not a deed done in a fit of anger. this was a cold calculated killing of american troops by a muslim radical. pure and simple. this guy was out handing out the Koran to his neighborhors before he murdered our troops. How many more must die at the hands of political correctness. This guy was under watch by federal authorities and had unsatisfactory reviews, but because he was a muslim he had to be left in place to commit this horrible act of terrorism. this was not a rampage it was terrorism. It seems that the people who lose their minds if you want to put the baby jesus on the courthouse lawns want to bend over backwards to please the muslims.

The military should have stopped this man before this horrific act occurred. Regardless of religion. I think we failed here...there were plenty of signs of his instability. The fact that he was Muslim is a touchy subject/reason for them to approach due to political correctness true...but his actions and things he said to people before this happened spoke volumes and that's where we failed. He should have been taken in for an eval and on a psych hold for everyone's safety long before he had the chance to do harm.

It is obvious that the military is engaging in a major cover up and trying to play down this being an act of terrorism. To hell with political correctness, the military is not a social experiment. If we can not keep our young men and women safe on an army base, how can we protect the country? Heads should roll. But they will not. We can not offend the muslims. The sad irony here is that most muslims are not violent and these radical nutcases are hurting the islamic world more than anyone else. We should put a world wide bounty on the Jhihadists and wipe them out and then peaceful muslims could have a better life. Starting with shutting down the radical mosques in this country. The first amendment is not a suicide pact.

Yea the media doesn't want to step on toes. As a christian the media offends me. But I am not out shooting people and sueing the media.
I have friends who are gay and I know how they feel about my beliefs and they know how I feel. We get along great because neither of us would try to convert our beliefs on each other. Just as an athiests, I care about them but they can believe what they want.
The media will always offend somebody and people whether gay, athiest, black, white, christian, or whatever just need to quit being wine babies. Everyone will get offended, people need to just get over themselves.
