126 mph to a non injury accident. I agree with Ken, Matt Mitchell is an out of control cowboy. That is an abuse of the badge and he knew it. Why else would he turn off the camera?

You should all think about what you say before you say it, what if that was your son in the other wreck would you not want him to get there as fast as possible. It is sad to see how fast everyone turns on someone, his job is to serve and protect and thats what he was doing.

I'm not sure where you got your information Mike but my father-in-law was one of the first people on the scene. The first thing Matt said was get the video so they could catch the car that cut him off... why would he say that if he turned off the camera???

The accident victim was already being put in the ambulance when this officer was responding to the call. And I would want a ambulance, or fire dept to get there as fast as posible if it was my son in a accident. Not much that a trooper could do.What direct traffic? This guy was out of control. He put several motorist at risk with his negligent driving. So let Matt Mitchell cry.Cry everytime he wakes from his sleep, everytime he looks in the mirror.

To Melisssa, he had to of turned his camera off or else it would of been on. Unless by his wreckless speed it got ruined by impact. HE KILLED two beautiful loving girls of which I'm related. He has to live with himself. I hope he feels twice the grief that we as of family feel. I pray that justice is served.

You should all be ashamed for saying such horrible things. Im so sorry about the loss of the girls, it is a very unfortunate situation, but you should all think about what would happen if it was your child that was driving the other car. Have you no hearts at all? I grew up with Matt Mitchell and he was always a great kid, no one knows what really happened in his car at the time so how dare any of you think you have the right to scorn someone you dont know without any facts! You can all make your assumptions but in the end someone else above will have the answers!

An "unfortunate situation" is that what you call it. How would you feel if that were your daughters, nieces, or granddaughters. Yes, it was an accident BUT, it could of been avoided if he were going a reasonable speed. Or at least two girls would be just injured, instead of dead. As far as a heart, has Matt Mitchell shown any remorse or sympathy to the family of the girls that were killed? I could not live with myself knowing that I took two lives and then to not even acknowledge it to the family of the girls. And by the way - I am not making any assumptions regarding this case.

I think that this officer deserves what he has coming to him. NO officer should ever be driving 126 MPH to a non injury accident where other officers were already on the scene. I can only hope I am on the jury.

Lets call it what it is, "Reckless". There is no valid reason to operate a vehicle that fast unless you are a race car driver and there are rules in place for safety there also. If you search the internet you will find another story that says he was responsible for the state of IL paying out close to two million dollars in a prior accident that he caused.

I've been reading these stories in the local media outlets since this tragic, AVOIDABLE event happened. To Anonymous in Belleville who grew up with Trooper Mitchell, who cares what kind of person he was or even is currently; he caused the deaths of two you ladies and nothing is going to change that. Let’s recap what has been reported by the police and many witnesses so far: 1. Mitchell was traveling at 126 MPH; 2. Mitchell for some reason turned off his camera; 3. Many witness reported Mitchell driving at very high speeds on the left shoulder to get around traffic in the left lane; 4. Mitchell was called off of the accident he was responding to 6 minutes prior to his accident, so there was no reason to be driving 126 MPH; 5. Mitchell was unnecessarily driving at an unsafe speed in crowded holiday traffic; 7. State's Attorney said Mitchell was distracted by something that hasn’t been disclosed yet. It seems pretty clear that Trooper Mitchells actions were very reckless and the deaths of the Uhl sisters certainly avoidable. In addition, what adds insult to injury in this situation is Trooper Mitchell continues to get paid and Illinois Trooper Lodge 41 even sponsored and held a fund raiser to help with medical and legal fees and is giving him their support. Mitchell needs to spend a long time in jail for his recklessness and poor judgment in causing the deaths of the Uhl sisters.

What happen to the driver that cut him off. When you see a police officer you get over . You should be ashame of yourself. I hope that you are in a accident where a police officer has to save your life and he get cut off by someone. I hope you never have to wait for a police officer taking his time to get to you. I pray you family won't say I wish the officer would have gotten here quicker maybe he would be alive. I hope that never happen to you.

To Jessica, I hope you never have to live with the fact that if he was going slower maybe he wouldn't of killed two young girls, perhaps a family member. Oh, and by the way traffic was bumper to bumper that day - people didn't have anywhere to pull over. Also, he was responding to an accident where there were already officers and an ambulance on the scene. If I needed an officer I wouldn't want him to kill two people on his way there. He was out of control and put many lives in danger. Even if he was cut-off which I doubt, if he had been going a reasonable speed, he would not have killed two innocent young women.
