I'm thinking about moving to Portland to attend the midwifery school. I have a 6 month old who would obviously be coming with me. Is this a safe, family friendly city? Or should I say "single mom friendly"?

not sure how much I'll be able to help since I'm sure your best answers would come from other parents which I am not, but I personally find Portland to be a wonderful city, especially in comparison to basically any other large city in the country. I also recall reading an article a few years ago in i believe it was "TIME" magazine which ranked Portland the #1 big city to raise a family in, and that was based on economics, crime rate, schools, etc. On that same note, it had D.C. ranked as number 3 or 4, and from what I hear its kinda crime ridden but I've never been... Overall it depends on what your are looking for/looking to avoid... I mean every big city has its negatives but I think Portland is a great city and would love to raise my kid(s) here if/when that day comes.
