HOG-WASH...This entire story is full of IT! Do these people expect us to be that stupid. If she never told anyone and had the baby at home, then what was she planning to do with it afterwards? The outcome speaks for itself.
I raised 3 girls, and I knew what was going on. A mom buys the products for periods and does the cleaning, how did she not know? I think the mother of this girl is guilty too.

This is 2008, she has more options than ever before. This did not need to happen.
Maybe several months in jail will give her a chance to develope some valuss.

By the way, there are several million couple in this country alone that would have loved her baby girl.
Hmmm

Ok... as for you biterbug, You dont know the girls situation. 1. She was 18, not so much under mommy's wing anymore. 2. Remember being that young and imagine being pregnant and scared to tell your parents, there are ways to hide it. 3. No one did know she was pregnant.

The only person that really knows what happened is the girl. I am sure that what she is living with now is much harder than any time served in a penitentuary. Do not make this harder on the family than it currently is by posting these things on here for her family to read. You said your self that the story is full of it, so how dare you make comments based on the stuff that this story tells you. I hope you never have to go through something like that with your kids. But Karma has its way of coming around.
Ciao.

She did tell someone she was pregnant, her boyfriend knew. And even though she hid the pregnancy, she had no right to let the baby bleed to death while she sought medical treatment for herself. That is downright selfish and negligent...hence the child neglect charge that led up to the involuntary manslaughter charge. She should have told her mother about the baby before leaving for the hospital. Then the baby could have received medical attention as well. But she chose to leave the baby there alone to bleed to death with a severed & unclamped umbilical cord while she made sure her needs were tended to.

My wife and I had our first child six years ago at that age, 18 and 17. There is absolutely no excuse for this, I couldn't even imagine not telling anyone let alone not seeking medical help, we were at the doctors at least a dozen times during her pregnancy. I don't even see how its possible to hide something like that from your parents unless she had it very prematurely. This would be excusable if this was the 1800's or that girl had a serious mental condition...otherwise if I were that judge there would be no convincing me.

I don't understand how things like this happen. It is one thing to have a homebirth in a healthy pregnancy in which you are caring for yourself and your child, it's a whole different ballpark to not seek any care at all and leave a child to die. I just want to hear from her, WHY?!

I guess people have already forgot about the Rebbecca Hopfer case in the '90s, not even one mention of it anymore.
