Blame someone else for your unhappy life!
my-oh-my thou protestest too much in defense of the has been a SHS principal for 12 years, but why?
Our overwhelmingly vague principal could only defend his status quo tunnel vision with his severely misguided reply that our high school students were just so happy loving their high school experience and favorite teachers, they just had no desire to leave the high school campus for a higher achievement college course.
Now there's the real loser of "higher principles."

Education in Springboro is All About Being Informed; and Staying Engaged in doing what's right for our school children and community. Our current board and district leadership is providing more transparency in our school district's finances and opening direct communication from our children's classrooms into the homes of parents and community members than ever before.
This really is an exciting time for our school board, district leadership, parents and students, and all community members to work together supporting our district's new philosophy of "children first budgeting."
If you are new to the "blogging" scene, don't be taken in by the paid bowman bloggers badmouthing our good neighbors and board representatives (whose accomplishments since 2010 have been greater for our kids' education than previous "status quo" board leadership). If you want real, unbiased answers to your questions about education in Springboro, then you can go to this website and ask a board member and learn the truth:

Springboro schools is in good company. Last year, Ohio graded close to 2/3 of it's public school districts either "Excellent" or "Excellent with Distinction".
If (the majority) of Ohio's schools are that good, why do the best jobs continue to leave Ohio?

Looking at the entire U.S., what kind of changes must be implemented so that America's children can successfully compete with other nations around the globe?

You betcha it's nonsense that our Ohio workers have to leave the state to get the best jobs. And WHY? Because Right-To-Work States
encourage great business to come to their state to provide the best jobs for workers; while workers in forced-unionization states
like Ohio are left behind; stuck in an outdated collective bargaining system maintaining unionized status quo for over 25 years.

Wages are 3% lower in RTW states employer sponsored health care is hurt employer sponsored pensions are lower and unemployment rates are equal. RTW is strictly a way of keeping republicans in office because the unions will have less money to donate to the campaign funds of the democrats and the Republicans love it because they bring in rich business owners who contribute to their campaigns. And your first comment about me being "able to" expand shows your unwillingness to look at another point of view which is the reason this country is in the crapper.

First off, in the grand scheme of things, I don't think most parents are going to make the decision of AP class vs. PSEO based on this percentage grade different.
The bigger question is why are upper level high school classes weighted the way they are? If a student is willing and able to take the higher level courses then they should accept the grade they get - why should they get 10 extra points added to their grades? If you are so against the "Proficient" definition of the OGT and other tests, then you should be against this type of weighting. Kind of hypocritical don't you think?
The point here is that kids are discouraged from taking PSEO both in the way they are talked to and the way this district grades them. These kids are not dummies they can figure that taking an AP course will get them a better GPA (district choice)and going to college is intimidating so they are essentially discouraged using some sneaky techniques. WHY? Could it be because if students take college courses they don't need as many teachers and there is way too much job protection going on rather than doing what is right for the kids?

It is always refreshing to watch how those with no arguments attempt to turn the conversation away from its uncomfortable conclusions.

No one refutes the numbers from the state tests or the conclusions drawn, instead we have attack the messenger.

Not a soul has provided an alternate interpretation of the OAA or OGT test results.

None have bothered to refute in any meaningful way the gross bias between A/P classes taken in the high school and PSEO classes taken on a college campus.

Nada on the plight of 2000 plus children in our district that year in and year out do not get the education the taxpayers are funding.

Only those living in la-la-land under the big status quo union tent would be so narrow minded and fearful of reform minded policies that free us from the union masters owning our minds, bodies and souls. While your biased opinion is just that; some sources from the Bureau of Labor Statistics report greater job growth in right to work states than in forced-unionization states.

In the January 24 article of the Springboro Star Press - Statewide education groups put casino proceeds for school in perspective - The Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA), the Buckeye Association of School Administrators (BASA) and the Ohio Association of School Business Officials (OASBO)said they want to make sure the public understands exactly what the casino revenue will mean for schools.
___

In my opinion, Thank goodness, Springboro voters have rejected the leadership of union school board candidates, who support Ohio politicians and educators' outdated policies of gambling with our children's future (instead of making much needed reforms); Springboro voters have opportunity in November to reject board member Don Miller who supports the OEA/OSBA indoctrination of public schools union teachers rights to walk out on our children's classrooms, if the teachers union president is not happy with the decisions made by school district leaders and elected officials.

Thank goodness we have only one board member, Don Miller, sitting on the board year after year, fearfully clinging to status quo and preaching the gospel of OEA indoctrination, that he was elected to protect our public schools, meaning the teachers union; (notice he did not say he was elected to put our kids first by making every decision in the best interest of our students); and this board member consistently votes against our children first; deferring instead to the best interest of the teachers union. Isn't it time for Springboro voters to say thank you to Don Miller for his "severely misguided" service to our schools and community; but please let's remind him in November that it really is time for him to go.

Don't these 2000 plus children in our district that year in and year out do not get the education the taxpayers are funding, at least deserve the investment of taxpayers dollars considering why Springboro needs to study the possibility of a conversion school possibly meeting these students unmet needs in our public schools district?

Thank you, Mrs. Kohls, Mr. Petroni, Mr. Rigano.

I am all of a merit based system. However, the manner in which these changes are being made will devastate our school district in the short term and long term by loosing the teachers who have helped to make our district a success. This is NOT putting our kids first, but putting their personal agendas first under the guise of our kids. In an attempt to try to reform the system, they in turn push out those that would excel under a merit based system. Very sad. So NO THANK YOU Mrs. Kohls, Mr. Petroni, and Mr. Rigano. Looking forward to the next round of voting. We need a balance of educators and business people on our school board who can work together, with the best interest of our children and community at heart, and not bully our district.

Last week, Franklin City Schools Superintendent Anrol Elam sent students home with a letter criticizing Governor John Kasich’s education funding proposal. To date, the budget is still under construction.

On Thursday, Warren County opened an investigation into Elam to determine if he had engaged in “impermissible political activities.”

The letter stated,“Governor John Kasich was untruthful last week, and in doing so, finally clarified that kids in poor districts don’t count.” Franklin is the poorest district in the county.

Elam’s letter continued,“The governor’s funding plan has taken from the children that attend the Franklin City Schools and gives to the rich…” He correctly pointed out that Mason, Springboro, and Kings are listed in the data table as recipients of additional funds next year while state aid to Franklin the other Warren County districts is due to remain steady.

The letter implored readers to “join” Elam “in an active campaign to ensure that Gov. Kasich and any legislator who supports him are not re-elected.”

Elam had been quoted in the Middletown Journal last week claiming that the governor had lied by claiming that poorer schools would “get money.” He also said,“The people in these richer districts should send those of us in poorer districts a thank-you note because now they can drive a bigger Mercedes.” So Elam’s passion is clear as is his penchant for strident rhetoric.

On Friday, the story took a new twist, as the Ohio Democratic Party officially pushed the inquiry into party politics by submitting a public records request with Warren County regarding any possible communication between the prosecutor and the governor’s office.

Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Chris Redfern launched the probe in large part because the Warren County Prosecutor, David Fornshell, is a Republican. Redfern called Fornshell one of Kasich’s top political donors, although he does not appear on the Project Vote Smart list as one of the governor’s top contributors.

The charge may be designed simply to instill suspicion, but it is the latest blow in what has now become a partisan political exchange.

Answer me this. Where would they go?

This is the same rhetoric that was used during the levy campaigns. "If you don't keep up with more more more they will leave". In case you haven't heard, there were 1,000 applicants for one teaching position. Do you really think that if teachers had to be evaluated on their achievements they would leave. No matter how you present it the union will not like it and they will convince their membership that it is the fault of conservatives. The union will tell their membership that this change is bad and tell to work to elect the status teacher quoe. You aren't for any kind of merit system, you just want to win a board seat so you can push your agenda and screw the kids, you need your buds to continue to get more and more and more.
The larger problem is that boards have too many of the same old "we need more" attitudes from former teachers and union reps. What we need are people that do not tow the party line of more and more without accountability.

Don't you get it, the face of education is changing and your the loser? Stop trying to blame the messenger and get educated.

Join me in demanding his resignation. A public servant actively campaigning against anything is wrong and especially because he used the kids. SHAMEFUL

What this liberal wants is more re-distributions. Redistribute to him and his kind. The kids my hinny, as he is a retire rehire and making money hand over fist. Maybe he should give up one of his salaries and fund some of his bloated, overpaid and benefited system. This redistribution pusher fails to mention that the schools that are finally getting a little more of the enormous money they send to the State back is because they have grown and had the State funds cut instead of like some districts that have lost students yet have gotten more every year. Stop your bellyaching, stop breaking Ohio laws by using public resources to campaign and stop using the kids to do your dirty work.

Demand his resignation.
