The problem is that judging someone by appearance is not the way God intended us to look at someone (Man looks at the outward appearance but the Lord looks at the heart). When we as Christians have all these "neat little requirements" then we shut those people out that we want the most to reach out to. We are basically telling them, you can't be what we are until you become like us. That's human standards, not devine. God welcomes everyone!
reply:no one has the right to judge anyone even if they were makeup or pants. first of all just because you don't wear makeup doesn't mean that you are more holy or free from sin. doesn't mean that one that doesn't wear makeup or wear pant is more of a christian

What matters is modesty and for your heart to be pure though your dressing matters but not as much as your heart matters to him(GOD).God is the only who knows the truth instead of debating on this issue it is better to pray and ask God which is best.
I PRAY THAT GOD HELP US ALL IN THIS CONFUSED WORLD.GOD BLESS YOU ALL

Im sorry to day this I dont think our faith should really define who you are as long as you put God first in your life! I notice a lot of women ( christians) who are fat! look unhappy on the way the look! they let their hair grow to look chirtian! that doesnt mean they have GOd in them! YOu get to people thru your testimony! on how you living your live in God not on christian fashion! God sees all things and loves us for who we are and if someone wears make up to feel better what wrong with that? if you feel ugly on the outsid eno matter what you say you spirit will feel ugly to! very thing in exageration is bad! just use common sense and let God do his perfection on you..

I put all that stuff on? I don't need to be looking like the rest of the world. If there are two women (one of them "christian") wearing pants and wearing makeup, how will a person who does not know God ever tell the difference from the one who does have the LORD in her and the other who doesn't?
By the way, I'm only 16. Talk about being different from the rest. I believe I'm a real Christian who belives 100% in the word of God, and I do not try to "fix" what it says for my own convenience...if it says not to do something or to do something, just follow what it says and don't "interpret" it 4 your own well-being.
For one thing everyone is different and has a right to be.I am not trying to offend your opinion. In my opinion makeup and wearing pants is nothing bad at all. Look at Joyce Meyer she is a preacher and she wears makeup, pants, and etc. It is not a sin to wear pants and a person can still be modest and still wear pants as a person pleases to do so. There are way more important things in the world that matter. What a person's actions are that matters. I know that you did not say that it was a sin to wear pants, I am only telling you that it is not and you cannot go to hell for it either. No one has a right to judge whatsoever, but telling the truth is a different story. I am a true christian woman. I have read the bible quite a few timmes there is nothing in the bible that says wearing pants is bad, but it does have a little to do with modesty. I do believe in modesty and I do wear pants and I am proud of it baby! That is my choice, my right, my freedom. It is also your own choice to do what you choose to do just like me. People are and will be different. Only perfect person is god noone else but god himself only. Noone will never be the same that is the way life is and I like it like that anyways. That is just my opinion and that is all I have to say.

You are correct that the issue is primarily modesty. Other than Dt 22:5 its hard to indicate specifics of appropriate garments other than modesty. But what is modesty? May I suggest you ask a trusted older Godly man what he thinks? Like your dad or husband? I think many women have little idea of how even a pair of pants may effect a man.
Be sure that God is getting the glory and not you or your body. You may think that lust is a man's problem--and it is. But how will you feel on judgment day seeing your brother, who succumbed to lust being condemned to hell--and it was your immodesty that enticed him?
So does the Bible say pants are sinful? That may depend on what is in your heart. Obviously the cotton or nylon is not sinful. Just like a DVD is not sinful--but the lust which results from watching inappropriate movies may be.
Other things are certainly very important, but sin is not a comparative thing--it all cost Jesus life on the cross. What is at stake here may be the collateral damage. What are you doing to tempt your brother?
You can't blame a person for someones lustful heart. You should be headlong the one with the issue. Not displacing blame.

I'm sure this post is quite old but really taking the Bible for what it literally says is good, but you have to remember this is all translated. If you go and learn the Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic translations and translate that scripture in Deuteronomy it might surprise you. My husband majored in Biblical languages and it is surprising to see how the word "man" can have so many forms. So I don't have to belabor a point, I will just say that I have worn skirts only for half my life, but ultimately a skirt wearing woman can go to hell too, it isn't in legalism, it is in a relationship with Jesus. I seek and search out what I should do and pray for God's grace to guide me. The actual debate going on in this site is legit, doesn't always mean it is legalism, before you judge someone, think of the scriptures about "zeal." In time God can speak to people as He pleases. I have attached a link to the translations of that verse.

I haven't had my husband word for word translate everything this guy said in his article but it is pretty on target -- don't know him personally but like that he is plunging into the real translation of things!

Also the Bible talks about Jezebel and how she put on makeup and also other scriptural passages refer to the use of makeup (in a negative way). In Revelation, Jesus calls someone a Jezebel so you can be sure that that Old Testament example can still be applied to the New Testament church.
Don't build a false sense of security in your makeup. Don't make it your god. If you can't walk out of the house without makeup on you've got a problem.
Makeup was used by Native Americans to make them look more fierce than they really are. It was also an important part or the Middle Eastern devotion to certain godesses.

It is also used in magic.
Are you confident because you look a certain way?
When someone tells you you need to put some more makeup on, they are very mistaken. It is a FACT that God made you beautiful. No matter what people say. Trust the Lord. He knows what He is talking about.
"Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised." Proverbs 31:30
"Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.'" " Matthew 22:37
Sure it says in 1 Samuel 16:7 :
"But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." "
but Jesus said in Matthew 15:18 :
"But the words you speak come from the heart—that’s what defiles you."
Have you ever considered that the things we do come from the heart? From the heart we do all things. When we put on makeup, it is an action. It is from the heart.
Don't be so hypocritical and overlook all that tears you away from the world. Don't try to be like the world. Instead when you put something on, ask yourself "By what I'm wearing, can you tell that I am a Christian?"
Also, you have got to realize that not every man that looks at you going to be your husband. Men when they look at someone that is dressed immodestly, that image that they saw of that person may pop up later in the day and that image may wrestle with the way his wife looks. Would you want to cause that pain for another married couple? I sure wouldn't want my husband to be struggling with another woman's image.
Matthew 7:12 :
" “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets. "

Since there's so much controversy on the subject. Its only wise to do the logical. Don't use these things:makeup/trousers. If it turns out that its not sinful, what do we have to lose? Nothing! If it turns out to be sinful, what's there to lose? Everything! I believe these things may not necessarily stop the anointing in a christian woman while on earth. But at judgement if pants, mAkeup are regarded as unclean/sinful they might hinder one from possessing the treasures they have stored up in heaven. God is love yes, but God's nature repels unclean/sin. If at judgement one isn't free from every iota of unholiness/uncleaness, God's repellant nature to sin comes to play. And nothing can be done at that point, even though God's loving nature remains.

In matters of heaven and hell like this: its better to do the safest option. Abstain. Don't take chances with eternity, make choices.

Makeup/Clothing shouldn't be what makes one feel better about themselves o how they lool. That'l wud b being vain or worldly. Besides what r we painting and making up for? Some mistakes or omission God made. If it involves drawing and painting then its beyond basic personal care. Don't look dirty but don't make up. God made us well. Its similar to breaking the natural hair that grows on ur head...be as natural but well groomed and clean as possible. God help us

This is one thing that's killling d church today.'My right, my choice, my rules' Its suppose to b God rules. Your choice must be His. You should have your own life within God's lifeCIRCLE. If d pattern of ur right draws out of this circle u r wrong. Besides if it still alL about 'my, me , I' then you aren't there yeT. We must keep working on ourselves until all we want is to do Gods choice, Gods opinion. God help us all

If you think you dont have to strive to be perfect, you are wrong. See “Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, i say unto you, will seek to enter in, but shall not be able.”
Jesus said this in Luke 13:24-27.*strive as in agony (KJV) so you see, it’s no child’s play as many Christians today take it to be. See also Matt 7:13 and Rev 3:4.
Christians today go about saying no one can be perfect. That's wrong. You have to strive to be but that's doesn't mean your justification is by your own works, its by Gods work, the Blood of Jesus. If workers of iniquity will not see God then 'WORKERS' of righteousness are who will see God. But only the Blood of Jesus willl make the righteous truly righteous.

Besides the more logical thing to do is to put off d pants and makeup since the rt surrounded by so much controversy. In the end, What's there to lose if u dnt wear pants and makeUp? Don't takeee chances in matters like this

What a stupid topic. I wear clothes that are comfortable and makeup because it makes me feel good.. Who cares what I wear, as long as my butt is not showing and I am healthy. Stop asking for advice from millionaire preachers on TV, and use common sense.

I agree with you and i believe that if one is a born again christian and christ lives in you in the form of the word in your spirit you certainly know what the spirit commands to wear and not to wear.

Julia, the fact is that God did not make most women beautiful. I have no idea what you look like, but since I'd say onl 3-5% of women are really beautiful, chances are you're not one of them. Makeup helps. You may not care what you look like. But other people are the ones who have to look at you. So give the world a break, and put on a little lipstick and mascara. Really, it's not going to kill you. Foundation, for whoever said it's bad for the skin, is the best sun protection there is. And really, how could anyone be so deranged to think that God has time to give a flying if you're wearing make up -- or whatever you wear, for that matter.
Who's perception is that, what are you going by in regard to beauty, the commercials on TV and the glamour industry is a fake don't you know that. Many of the models are teenagers who have not received the blemish and stretch marks of age. Or they are the actresses who go through hours and hours of make up and even plastic surgery to make themselves look like what is in style now. These man made ideas of style and looks change over a period of time and can not be kept up with, because it is a race of vanity.
