Perry faces up to 109 years in prison for coercion and official oppression following his veto of $7.5 million in funding for the state's Public Integrity Unit, which is overseen by Democratic Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg. The governor said Lehmberg had lost the public's confidence and demanded that she resign or lose the funding. When Lehmberg refused, Perry kept his promise - drawing an ethics complaint from a left-leaning government watchdog group.

The governor has called the case against him as a political ploy, and the grand jury that indicted him was seated in Austin, a heavily Democratic city.

But Democrats note that Perry's veto came as the public integrity unit was investigating the state's $3 billion cancer-fighting agency, the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas, which was a key Perry achievement before drawing bipartisan criticism for improper spending, lax oversight and lucrative awards to private companies that skirted required scrutiny. Perry's lawyers have produced an affidavit from a former Public Integrity Unit investigator, saying that no one in the governor's office was a target of that investigation.

Texas Democratic Party executive director Will Hailer says the cancer agency case exposes official corruption that's festered because the GOP hasn't lost a statewide election in 20 years.

"Republicans have to double down on Governor Perry because of what the public integrity unit was looking into," he said. "If the house comes falling down, it falls down on all of them."

Meanwhile, the governor has resumed his busy travel schedule, visiting New Hampshire, home to the nation's first presidential primary, this weekend.

Court appearances look unavoidable once he's back home. But if the current trend holds, that might not be all bad.

Lawsuit Seeks Uncensored Access To Oklahoma Executions

Posted: Aug 25, 2014 10:23 AM CDT
Updated: Aug 25, 2014 11:09 AM CDT

At the Lockett execution, as with other executions in Oklahoma, the windows for witnesses to look into the execution chamber were covered by blinds while Lockett was brought into the chamber, strapped down, and had intravenous lines inserted.

OKLAHOMA CITY - The American Civil Liberties Union and two newspapers filed a federal lawsuit on Monday, seeking to stop Oklahoma prison officials from selectively filtering what journalists can see during an execution.
Officials said the lawsuit, filed on behalf of The Guardian and The Oklahoma Observer, follows the botched execution of Clayton Lockett in April during which prison officials blocked witnesses' view when the procedure did not go as planned.

“The state of Oklahoma violated the First Amendment, which guarantees the right of the press to witness executions so the public can be informed about the government's actions and hold it accountable,” said ACLU Staff Attorney Lee Rowland.“The death penalty represents the most powerful exercise of government authority. The need for public oversight is as critical at the execution stage as it is during trial.”

The lawsuit demands that reporters and other witnesses be permitted to view the execution, without interruption, from the time the condemned prisoner enters the execution chamber until he or she leaves it.

At the Lockett execution, as with other executions in Oklahoma, the windows for witnesses to look into the execution chamber were covered by blinds while Lockett was brought into the chamber, strapped down, and had intravenous lines inserted.

According to the ACLU, the blinds were raised only when officials began to administer the lethal drugs. After about 20 additional minutes, state officials closed the blinds after Lockett began to writhe, groan, and speak when he should have been unconscious.

5/1/2014 Related Story: DOC Releases Timeline Of Clayton Lockett's Execution

The blinds stayed down for approximately 20 more minutes, during which prison officials said they tried to determine the problem, called off the execution, and finally declared Lockett dead of a heart attack. Also in that time, members of the press could hear sounds coming from the execution chamber indicating pain and suffering, but they were unable to verify their exact source or nature because they could not see what was happening.

There were no independent witnesses to Lockett's death, and the precise cause of death has yet to be determined, according to the ACLU.

Reporter Katie Fretland, a plaintiff in the lawsuit, attended the Lockett execution for The Oklahoma Observer and The Guardian.

“At an execution, the press serves as the public's eyes and ears,” Fretland said.“The government shouldn't be allowed to effectively blindfold us when things go wrong. The public has a right to the whole story, not a version edited by government officials.”

Cop Who Shot Michael Brown Has A Not So Spotless Background

According to the Washington Post, up until three years ago Darren Wilson worked for the Jennings Police Department, located not far from from the city of Ferguson. The Jennings police department was also made up of mostly white officers, who were supposed to be protecting and serving a mostly black community. Instead, there were so many problems between the police and residents of the town, that the entire 45 person police force was fired. Wilson was one of the officers who lost his job, when the Jennings police force was disbanded.

The city of Jennings has a population of only 14,000 residents, 89 percent of those citizens are black. The racial make-up of the city’s police force, on the other hand, was something like 43 white officers to two black officers. Much like Ferguson, the poverty rate is high and full time employment is scarce. Rodney Epps, one of the Jennings city council members who voted to disband the entire police force, told the Washington Post that the city was plagued racial tension.

“The straw that broke the camel’s back, an officer shot at a female. She was stopped for a traffic violation. She had a child in the back [of the] car and was probably worried about getting locked up. And this officer chased her down Highway 70, past city limits, and took a shot at her. Just ridiculous,”

Epps said during an interview, published on August 23.

After a string of lawsuits over unnecessary force, including accusations of police beating and attacking residents without cause, along with federal and state investigations that revealed fraud and corruption inside the Jennings police department, the city council realized that the entire force was a liability, instead of an asset.

The council voted 6-1 to shut down the Jennings police department, fire all 45 officers who belonged to it, and start over.

While there are no specific reports about Darren Wilson at this time, Lt. Jeff Fuestang, who was appointed to run the city’s new police department described conditions in Jennings at the time the that Wilson was fired:

“There was a disconnect between the community and the police department. There were just too many instances of police tactics which put the credibility of the police department in jeopardy. Complaints against officers. There was a communication breakdown between the police and the community. There were allegations involving use of force that raised questions.”

So much for that spotless record. Darren Wilson, along with 44 other cops, was fired because of serious misconduct, excessive force and rampant corruption. Why is that not on his record?

Obamacare Now Pays for Gender Reassignment

The nation’s health law opens the door for transgender people to gain coverage for gender reassignment surgeries they previously could not afford.

By Anna Gorman, Kaiser Health News

Devin Payne had gone years without health insurance—having little need and not much money to pay for it.

Then Payne, who had a wife and four children, realized she could no longer live as a man.

In her early 40s, she changed her name, began wearing long skirts and grew out her sandy blond hair. And she started taking female hormones, which caused her breasts to develop and the muscle mass on her 6-foot one-inch frame to shrink.

The next step was gender reassignment surgery. For that, Payne, who is now 44, said she needed health coverage.“It is not a simple, easy, magical surgery,” said Payne, a photographer who lives in Palm Springs.“Trying to do this without insurance is a big risk. Things can go wrong … not having the money to pay for it would be awful.”

Payne learned in the fall that she might qualify for subsidies through the state’s new insurance marketplace, Covered California, because her income fell under the limit of $46,000 a year. She eagerly signed up in March for a Blue Shield plan for about $230 a month, and began making preparations for the surgery that would change her life.

A ‘Pre-existing Condition’

Among the less-talked-about implications of the Affordable Care Act is the relief it is providing to many transgender people, many of whom are low-income and who have struggled to obtain health coverage.

Getting jobs that offer insurance often has been difficult for transgender people and the cost of purchasing plans on the private market can be prohibitive. Some have been denied policies altogether after being diagnosed with “gender identity disorder,” often considered a pre-existing condition.

Without insurance, many people were unable to afford the hormones, surgeries and counseling needed to complete their transition. Nor would they have been covered in the event of surgical complications, which can include infections.

“We are still dependent on insurance and the medical community for us to be able to live authentically,” said Aydin Kennedy, coordinator of the transgender health program at St. John’s Well Child and Family Center in Los Angeles.

Now, federal law prohibits health insurance companies from discriminating against transgender people, and it bars insurers from denying coverage based on pre-existing conditions. That makes it possible for more transgender people to purchase private plans. And in states that expanded their Medicaid programs, those with low incomes may get free coverage.

The federal anti-discrimination regulations have yet to be written, but California insurance regulators have said that companies must treat transgender patients the same as other patients. For example, if plans cover hormones for post-menopausal women, they must also cover them for transgender women. Medicare, the program for the elderly and disabled, lifted its ban on covering sex reassignment surgery earlier this year.

“The law and policy are on a transgender person’s side for the first time,” said Anand Kalra, program administrator at the Oakland-based Transgender Law Center.

Burger King's Tax Inversion and Canada's Favorable Corporate Tax Rates

In an unexpected and interesting move, Burger King is in talks to buy Canadian coffee-and-doughnut chain Tim Horton’s Inc., a merger that would be structured as a “tax inversion” which would effectively move Burger King’s headquarters to Canada (more specifically, my hometown of Oakville, Ontario). For those who are unfamiliar with Tim Horton’s, the brand is tantamount to Canada’s version of Dunkin Donuts that could just as easily adopt its own version of the tagline “America Runs on Dunkin”(think “Canada Runs on Tim Horton’s”). Tim Horton’s is no small coffee-shop chain. Tim Horton’s, Canada’s largest coffee-shop chain, has a market capitalization of about $8.4 billion, while Burger King’s market capitalization is about $9.6 billion; the proposed merger would form a new entity worth about $18 billion.

3 Quick & Easy Charts Show Why Burger King Wants to Move From the U.S. to Canada

By Kevin Boyd 2 hours ago

Burger King is on the verge of buying Canada’s largest donut chain, Tim Hortons, in a deal that would see Burger King relocate its corporate headquarters from Florida to Canada.
Burger King wants to move its corporate headquarters out of the U.S. to take advantage of Canada’s much lower corporate tax rates. The practice is called “tax inversion,” and it makes some American politicians angry.
The reasons why Burger King prefers Canada to the U.S. are actually pretty easy to see in a few charts.
Here’s a chart from KPMG that compares the corporate tax rates between the U.S. and Canada:

http://static.ijreview.com/wp-content/uploads...

Next, here’s a list of the 20 highest corporate tax rates in the world from the Tax Foundation. Notice which country is third:

http://static.ijreview.com/wp-content/uploads...

Finally, here’s another chart from the Tax Foundation which puts the problem America faces more in context:

http://static.ijreview.com/wp-content/uploads...

Whereas many countries are lowering their corporate tax rates, the United States has refused to join in. As a result, we see companies like Burger King looking to take advantage of “tax inversion” deals and relocate their corporate headquarters outside of the country.
What does the Obama administration plan on doing about this? If you guessed working with Congress to lower corporate tax rates, you would be wrong. Instead, they plan on writing legislation to essentially outlaw “tax inversion” deals under the guise of “economic patriotism” or something.
The only duty a corporation has is to maximize the profit it returns to shareholders. The cost of corporate taxes is one of those costs it can lower to improve profitability.
If the Obama administration really wants to keep corporations in America, they will move to lower corporate taxes and make America more competitive again.

5 Reasons the State Dept Is Off Its Rocker When It Says ISIS Doesn’t Represent a War Against America

By Justen Charters 6 hours ago

State Dept Says War With America Isn't What Isis Represents
----------

On Thursday, State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf took questions about ISIS from the media. When a reporter tells Harf that ISIS has announced a “war against America,” she replies:
“They can say whatever they like, but when I am making clear is that is not what ISIL represents. And they don’t represent any religion, they are at war with everyone they come in contact with.”
It appears that the State Department is refusing to acknowledge that ISIS most definitely represents “radical Islam.”
Here are five reasons Harf’s claim that a war with America is not what ISIS represents lacks credibility:
1. When ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was released from U.S. custody in 2009, he reportedly told Army officers,“I’ll see you in New York.”
2. The email from ISIS to James Foley’s parents before his murder read, in part,“You and your citizens will pay for the price of your bombings! The first of which being the blood of the American citizen, James Foley!”
3. ISIS spokesperson Abu Mosa, who was recently killed in Syria, told Vice News,“we will raise the flag of Allah in the White House.”
4. Due to alleged ISIS threats in Chicago and other American cities, on Saturday the FBI issued a bulletin to all local officials, asking them to be on the lookout for ISIS-related or homegrown terror threats.
5. ISIS is holding other Americans hostage, including Time journalist Steven Sotloff, whom it said it would kill unless Obama meets its demands.
Clearly, ISIS is at war with the United States of America. And with other American lives in jeopardy, it is irresponsible for the administration to attempt to sugarcoat an issue this serious.

Native Americans Share What They Really Think Of The Washington Redskins in Thought-Provoking Video

By Kevin Boyd 3 hours ago

Redskins is a Powerful Name
----------

The Washington Redskins organization has been in a fight with critics over its nickname for years. Some feel that the name “Redskins” is offensive to Native Americans.
An organization of former Washington Redskins players and fans, Redskins Facts, has compiled this video of Native American Redskins fans, including descendants of the Native American who designed the logo, explaining why they are in fact honored by the title,“Redskins.”
Furthermore, many on the video say the mascot is not a big deal and that there are far more important issues facing Native Americans, such as jobs, crime and drugs.
These attitudes were echoed in a 2013 CBS column which interviewed officials at Native American schools that proudly bear the “Redskins” mascot:
Tommy Yazzie, superintendent of the Red Mesa school district on the Navajo Nation reservation, grew up when Navajo children were forced into boarding schools to disconnect them from their culture. Some were punished for speaking their native language. Today, he sees environmental issues as the biggest threat to his people.
*
The high school football team in his district is the Red Mesa Redskins.
*
“We just don’t think that (name) is an issue,” Yazzie said.“There are more important things like busing our kids to school, the water settlement, the land quality, the air that surrounds us. Those are issues we can take sides on.”
At the very least, the controversy over the name “Redskins” is not as clear-cut as many seem to think.

BREAKING: Government Report Declares Obama Broke The Law; Judge Thinks He Deserves Prison
Judge Napolitano discussed this and believes it warrants 10 years to life in prison

B. CHRISTOPHER AGEE — AUGUST 22, 2014

Read more at http://www.westernjournalism.com/breaking-gao...

There is little question that the deal approved by Barack Obama to trade five dangerous terrorists for an Army sergeant accused of desertion struck many Americans as ill-advised and potentially dangerous.

The nonpartisan Government Accountability Office, however, took the criticism to a higher level in a report released Thursday. By failing to give Congress 30 days’ notice before releasing the prisoners, the agency found the Defense Department in clear violation of a federal law.

According to the report,“because DOD used appropriated funds to carry out the transfer when no money was available for that purpose, DOD violated the Antideficiency Act.”

The GAO cited one specific section of the law, signed by Obama himself, it determined was violated in the widely criticized prisoners swap.

“None of the funds appropriated or otherwise made available in this Act may be used to transfer any individual detained at United States Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to the custody or control of the individual’s country of origin, any other foreign country, or any other foreign entity except in accordance with section 1035 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2014.”
According to the report, the GAO attempted to determine when the Defense Department provided the requisite notification enumerated in section 1035; and in its response, the department indicated that it alerted Congress on the same day as Bergdahl’s release.

“In our view, DOD has dismissed the significance of the express language enacted in section 8111,” the report concluded.

Calling the law’s mandate “clear and unambiguous,” the GAO ultimately sided with a number of critics who, from the beginning, asserted that the deal was inherently illegal.

Military Members Say New DOD Contractor Losing, Damaging Personal Vehicles

Posted: Aug 25, 2014 6:14 PM CDT

By Dana Hertneky, News 9 - bio | email

It all started when International Auto Logistics took over the $5-billion Department of Defense contract in May.
OKLAHOMA CITY - When Sgt. Cheyenne Dendy came home to Oklahoma after serving in Germany he had his brand new 2014 Dodge Pickup shipped through International Auto Logistics. It was supposed to be here on July 31 at the latest. It never showed up.
“Never heard anything, couldn't track the vehicle online,” said Dendy's wife, Kayla, who has been trying to help her husband find their truck.“Said it was sitting in Germany and so that's when we got concerned,”

Dendy is just one of hundreds of military members returning home from service to learn their personal vehicles they had shipped have either been lost or damaged.

“We've called them through their customer service line. They say they'll get back to us within 24 hours,” said Dendy.“We've never heard a return phone call from that service line at all.”

It all started when International Auto Logistics took over the $5-billion Department of Defense contract in May.

Check out the IAL Class Action Lawsuit.

A Facebook page set up for military members and their spouses who have had problems with IAL already has more than 3,300 members, many with similar horror stories to the Dendy's or worse.

On Friday a class action lawsuit was filed in federal court on behalf of several military members who haven't gotten their vehicles back. The suit says they anticipate the class will be "comprised of several hundred, if not more than a thousand, individuals."

Kayla says it's likely they will be one of them. Even Monday, when she went online to try and track the vehicle, all she got was a message saying the website was down. However, by calling the port and the company that owns the ships that bring the vehicles over she was able to figure out the truck is in Houston.

“I'm furious,” she said.

News9 also tried to get a hold of International Auto Logistics but we were only passed to an answering machine and our calls were not returned. Published reports show IAL was set up as a company just two months before receiving the government contract.

DOJ Attorneys: Lerner’s Emails Exist, But Here’s Why We Aren’t Turning Them Over

By Jennifer Van Laar 24 mins ago

Despite IRS officials’ sworn testimony and affidavits to the contrary, a DOJ attorney has learned there is a backup system where Lois Lerner’s emails are stored.
So why haven’t they been produced, pursuant to subpoena and court order?
Judicial Watch’s Tom Fitton explained on Fox News this afternoon:
A Department of Justice attorney told a Judicial Watch attorney on Friday that it turns out the federal government backs up all computer records in case something terrible happens in Washington and there’s a catastrophe, so the government can continue operating. And they say it would be too hard to go get Lois Lerner’s emails from that backup system.

So everything we’ve been hearing about scratched hard drives…it’s all been a pack of malarkey. They could get these records, but they don’t want to.

And there’s no such thing as Lois Lerner’s missing emails. It’s all been a big lie. They’ve been lying to the courts, to the American people, to Congress. It’s outrageous.
Mr. Fitton goes on to say,“The Obama administration needs to get on the ball and start retrieving them [the emails], as opposed to stonewalling and continuing to obstruct justice.”
Judicial Watch will be asking the Court for relief on this issue, likely in the form of a court order to produce the emails from the backup system.

Obama Sent No Representative to Memorial Mass for Beheaded Journalist James Foley

August 25, 2014 - 5:27 PM

( CNSNews.com )- President Barack Obama sent no White House representative to the memorial Mass held yesterday in Rochester, New Hampshire, for James Foley, the American journalist beheaded by the Islamic State in Iraq and al-Sham (ISIS) terrorists.

President Obama, however, did send three White House aides to Monday’s funeral for Michael Brown, an 18-year-old African American fatally shot in an encounter with a white police officer in Ferguson, Mo.

The memorial mass for James Foley took place Sunday at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary in Foley’s hometown. Connie Hammond, an administrative assistant at Holy Rosary, told CNSNews.com that no White House officials were in attendance.

“There was nobody that represented the White House,” Hammond said, adding that all of the dignitaries in attendance called ahead except for one and that all of them sat together.

Tom Bebbington, director of communications for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Manchester, told CNSNews.com that the officials in attendance at the Mass included New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan (D.), Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R.-N.H.) and Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D.-N.H), and Rep. Ann Kuster (D.-N.H.).

Bebbington confirmed that no White House officials were present.

Pope Francis sent his condolences to the Foley family in a letter that was read during the Mass.

The letter said the Holy Father “commends James to the loving mercy of God our Father, and joins all who mourn him in praying for an end to senseless violence and the dawn of reconciliation and peace among all the members of the human family.”

While Obama sent no White House officials to Foley’s Sunday memorial Mass, he sent three to Michael Brown’s Monday funeral.

----------

Last year Margaret Thatcher died and Obama ignored it choosing instead to send individuals not of his administration to 'represent' America. If the truth were know Schultz and Baker would have attended on their own dime such was the respect they had toward the 'Iron Lady' as well as their boss, President Ronald Reagan. Thatcher attended Reagan's funeral in California in spite of her doctors forbidding her to travel due to health issues.

James Foley funeral is totally ignored and a 18 year old who spent his last day robbing a convenience store, assaulting a store clerk, then attacking a police officer is raised into a martyr by Obama, Holder, Sharpton, Jackson, MSM, Shabazz(New Black Panthers) and the infamous Chicago Communist Revolution members!

Is this a f**ked up country or what?

Wealthy democrats helping themselves to more profits while facilitating job loss here in America.

Thanks Obama and thanks to all democrats for ruining this country.
