Horse and Buggies should be banned! I have been in one too many situations where the horse had gotten spooked by something such as thunder or something simple as its' shadow and caused an accident. Pay attention to how many buggies are out on the road during a storm, knowing damn well the horses spook easy when it thunders! THEY JUST DON'T CARE! Not even a week and a half ago this happened to me. I had to run the red light in hopes the horse wouldn't jump on my car or worse case thru the windshield!!! The horse was backing up into the car fast and when turned completely around facing the car it started bucking in the air just a few inches facing my car.**** THAT! I don't care where you're from but in the land of LOGIC that is called public endangerment! If you do not agree you are an idiot plain and simple! These are wild animals only controllable to a limited extent, especially on road travel in our day and age. They are a high risk to every motorist in PA period. Now i've seen this happen way too many times, i've lived here my whole life so let me ask you this...have you ever seen a car buck out into oncoming traffic at a red light or tip over because it was spooked? NO! I've seen buggies do this over and over again. So if you're travelling down the road and have the green light, a horse gets spooked and jumps in front of your vehicle with your children in the car and one of them dies, was it a situation that could have been avoided? And i guarantee you the amish would not held accountable in any way nor ivestigated...really, could this have been easily prevented? YES! It was not the bikers fault for not wearing a helmet. You call this a freak accident, LOL. If i put kids with no licenses on the road and tell them to drive wouldn't we expect more accidents by nature? Same goes for letting a wild animal on the main roads we drive! And us allowing the amish to allow their children ALONE driving the horse and buggies is far beyond incomprehendable to me.

Waynie is (was) my cousin. I have no issues with helmet laws. I think it should be up to the rider. I have no issues with the Amish but I believe that the owner of the horse should be accountable

My cousin is dead and his wife diabled because someone wasn't responsible for their animal and vehicle The owner of the buggy owes not just hospital and burial costs but owes my aunt a huge apology in person for killing her son.Helmets? I don't care for them That is my opinion. His hole face was ripped off.He died (Thank God) instantly.but his wife and brother had the displeasure of witnessing this

On rt 77 a few weeks ago another buggy with a 18 yr old driving it, turned into a motorcycle. She was sited for not signaling. But the riders were both hurt. They do it all the time on Rt8, Rt89 and Rt 77. Most are unreported. At least one a week. They had just reposted the speed limits on Rt89 to 45mph. Not to mention that a lot of the Amish kids drink and drive buggys.

I drive a car and state law demands I wear a seatbelt but a motorcycle driver needs not to wear a helmet does not make since to me I have more protection in the car and to the Amish and buggy which is a death trap they have all the freedom to do what they do drive at night with little light and being unliecenced on the highway causing accidents.
