As a mom with two beautiful girls in Nederland I will push for a sex offender to be forced to live somewhere/anywhere else! In florida, they are under a bridge due to the ordinace. No sex offender is harmless, and I pray your children don't have to find that out the hard way. I would like to let my daughter walk to the park, but as for now, I will drive her. It is sad that she already knows self defense because of these harmless offenders. GET REAL! Only a sicko would tolerate a sicko! As for them just having an offense on an adult woman not not children, make a couple rounds through the rape unit and tell them they should live next door to them. I know there are some who are falsly accused, I am sorry for those, but most are not. As for me and my house, we will do our best to keep us safe. Even if that means some pervs are uncomfortable!

I agree with those who think this idea is “silly.” It is the parents and grandparents responsibility to know who lives in their neighborhood and to protect their children accordingly.
Along a similar topic, someone in the city of Pt. Neches proposed and ordinance a few months ago that would ban residents from owning Pit Bull dogs because these dogs are notoriously dangerous (although I am unaware of any children being mauled to death by dogs in the city). That resolution failed to pass.
A solution to the problem: move the sex offenders to the outskirts of town and let them own the Pit Bulls.
I dont want to comment on eighter side, but that joke was funny!!!!!!!!lol

I agree that it is the parents responsability to know who lives in their neighborhood and surrounding area, thats why i check the sex offender site map at least every week. Our government states they want to protect our children, but they really dont. If they did they would never let the basterds out of jail in the first place. I think they should be killed and they should not have any rights. My openion, they gave up their rights when they commited a sex crime on a small child. The comment that they have to have some where to live. well really they dont need to live. more poeple need to start thinking about the children and less about the child molisters and sex predators (i am talking of the ones that commit sex crimes against children) They should never be let out of jail. A man that has sex with a child is sick in the head and he will always have the desire to have sex with children and nothing will chang that. They get out of jail and keep molesting children till they get caught and most of the time till they kill the child and thats when our government wants to do something.

I think the proposed ordinance is silly. It is constitutionally suspect. This woman, forget her name, found that two registered sex offenders lived on her street. One had an offense against an adult woman and the other had an indecent exposure conviction, I believe. Neither are violent offenders. Neither are child molesters. While I certainly do not condone indecently exposing ones self to a child, I think this woman is way overreacting. Keep in mind that a sex offender registration is a database of offender's residential addresses. They are free to visit anyone's neighborhood. So while you may have no offenders living in your neighborhood, they may be visiting right next door. The point of Megan's Law is to keep track of "violent sexual predators". I do not think the people of Nederland have any of those types lurking in their midst. If so, Chief Darrell Bush, who has access to all criminal histories of every sex offender in his city would know that. That is who the public should check with before going off half-cocked and asking for an ordinance to virtually ostracize sex offenders and prevent them from living inside the Nederland city limits, which is the whole purpose of this ordinance. What overreacting can do is create vigilante mentality and drive the violent sexual predators underground to continue their dirty deeds. The country is obsessed with sex offenders because of the media coverage of the child sexual murders that have unfortunately happened. A very small fraction of sex offenders are child murderers. Many have offenses against adults, but they are all lumped into one category and the public freaks out. Nederland may never be integrated with a larger population of blacks, Hispanics, Asians, homosexuals, groups who will all demand their ethnic, cultural and gay pride parades and recognition of their ancestry. Nederland is behind the times and needs to move forward into the 21st century.

Does anyone have any thoughts about the sex offender ordinance soon to be in Nederland? I think it's a great thing. Happy Nederland is standing up and doing something about it.

Its seems to me that you would prefer "bad cities" such as Port Arthur, Beaumont, etc. take the "future" sex offenders as residents. Do you think that all criminals who repeat their crimes are only going to do it in the town that they reside in? If you think that just because Nederland has less crimes committed within their city limits means that there are less criminals per population, you are wrong. Compare the population of Port Arthur and Nederland to the crime rate. Lower population, lower crime rate. Big surprise. This ordinance will only push economic growth out of our community. These offenders must live, work, shop, and pay taxes somewhere. Don't think for one second that an offender whom resides in Port Arthur will not sit at a park in Nederland scouting his next victim. As sad and harsh as this is, it is also true. So, stop trying to segregate those who may offend you, or do not fit into the cookie cutter idea of the American dream.
