What you are missing is that the PRICE, before any added tax, of the phone will go DOWN more than 9%, because the embedded taxes that manufacturers and intermediate processing companies must pay will be MUCH lower, so, to remain competitive other phone makers, they will now charge LESS for the same phone and make the SAME or greater profit.
The error in your thinking is allowing the PRICE to stay the same, but they will not. It's just common sense for business and manufacturers, since markets do have competition.

Not to mention you'll have more in your check because you'll no longer be paying SSI etc.
People really don't get this plan or hate it because some will have to start chipping in.

Well that's the job of government - to get it's hand into everyone's pocket and make sure nobody is exempt from "chipping in". A lot of people who engage in no productive labor need new cars and must eat too, and I'm talking mostly about bureaucrats not welfare recipients.
Now get to work so you can pay them your protection fees.
