Where do you buy scanners to hear local calls? I would like to know what is going on because Topix often can't be trusted.
forget it

If you give any credibility to what you read on topix, you are in trouble!

I like to hear who wrecked, roads closed that are flooded, who is fighting and where, and all that. What is wrong with wanting to know what is going on? Same thing as reading the paper but news is old by then!

Some people are not nosey they really are concerned about what is going on in thier communities. Some of them actually live alone and need to know what is going on around them.
I check the sex predator website on a regular basis to see where they are as I am alone a lot of the time. Same with the court docket. For me it isn't so much as being nosy as being prepared and knowing what is going on in my neighborhood.
So does anyone know where to get these scanners or does anyone know if you can pick up the signal on internet?

only pill head whores. Unless they are actually married to a cop. Even then a lot of the cops sleep with the whores. It is a shame that we have so few good cops around here. If they aren't sleeping with the pill heads then they are somehow connected to illegal activity and turn a blind eye.
But I am not one of those ladies that is "in" with the cops. When I took my vows 14 years ago and said for better or worse, in sickness and health, until death do us part. I meant it, so did my husband.

Scanners are ok. Unless you are one of the people who are onlookers. These types get in the way of emergency teams.

Scanners are about to become a thing of the past as I have heard that the county will join the city and become digital the first of the year. That will keep all the nosey people bored to death.

I would think if they go digital then you could get it on the computer. If not then there is other ways of getting info. I know a lot of counties and states broadcast thier emergency channels online. But none of the counties around here do. I think maybe Perry might.
Oh and the comment about getting in the way, I agree totally. I know of several people that are so nosey they just have to go see what is happening.

A digital scanner can monitor both digital and non-digital (analog) radio communications as well as trunking radio systems. Some major cities such as Boston have no digital in use while rural areas such as upstate Michigan do and more agencies are going digital all the time. The U.S. national standard for public safety digital radio systems is known as APCO-25. All the scanners below are capable of monitoring APCO-25 non-encrypted Phase I digital. Note that there are a few encrypted digital systems and some non-APCO-25 digital systems which cannot be monitored on any scanner.

Oh and if anyone is interested in purchasing scanners here's a link to the site http://www.scannermaster.com/
