Was Johnny mann Crooked? Yes he was! Only a few from Lee County knew that and that was the drug dealers and bootleggers. Johny was paid handsomely from outsiders while he was Sheriff of Lee County. Now here is the hard part for people to understand. Johnny was raised dirt poor and had a third grade education so he didn't know any better. He never would have thought in a million years that the FBI would come in and set up their operation just to get him out of office. Johnny was a man who would do his job but sometimes if these people he dealt with had someone who got into trouble Johnny would call Judge Currior to have charges dismissed and they soon had a rocky relationship. Joe Goe was raided by the State Police and that Pi$$ed Johnny off so he called the Richmond Post and told their commamder that if they didn't get a certain Trooper out of Lee County he would going to take him to the Estill County Line tie him to a tree and kick his a$$. During that time an FBI informant was killed by an FBI agent after he found out she was pregnant with his child. The State Police solved that and arrested the Agent for Murder. He got 16 years for Murder and he walks the streets today. That upset the FBI so they busted James Richardson so they got him to rat and told him to get in with Johnny Mann.

James Richardson who was a known drug dealer, became friends with Johnny and he was made a special deputy. Back in them days Marijuana was the drug of choice and it brought a lot of money in. Johnny and James would raid pot patches and the grower would never get charged. Johnny would tell them that James was an FBI Agent. The Marijuana would be taken to the court house and then shipped by a deputy to Florida. Johnny even escorted a shipment to Florida in his cruiser. Many loads of marijuana has gone out the courthouse doors. James got Johhny to start meeting with his friends who he said was mafia members but was really FBI Agents and Johnny agreed to protect them when they came through Lee County. He would also let them drop cocaine and fake cocaine from a plane on his property, When they got enough to put Johnny away they decided to try and get other officers through Johnny. They went after Omer Noe who in all reality was scared to say no to Johnny. Johnny was a very intimidating man. Bill McIntosh had every dime of money he had in the back of his cruiser. They wanted a State Trooper so they could embarrass the State police but the trooper they tried to get wouldn't fall for it. They got a Sheriff and Deputy from Wolf County and Dean Spencer from Breathitt who had all the money and made a phone call to the DEA asking for help to arrest the Agents. They had several more Sheriffs who was thinking about joining but word started leaking out so they the FBI had to go ahead and make the arrests. Dean Spencer is the only one who was found not guilty. Omer Noe was recorded telling another officer he was scared and he wish they would get out of Lee County. I couldn't believe a jury found him guilty. I liked Johnny but he should not of ever been put in that position to be Sheriff. You should at least be a high school graduate to run for office of Sheriff. That's pretty much it. I know at one time a movie deal was being talked about this but a judge shot it down. I was at the trial every day and it will go down in history.

Did anyone see the one hour show on KET a few years back about all that went down with this? It showed the tapes of the FBI talking to Johnny Mann.He is a big man six foot six. Very interesting show. They said there was no way the small towns around there could have sold all the pot that was grown around there. Mafia was involved because that area had the perfect climate to grow it and it was the best you could get anywhere.

He was a good sheriff when it came to arresting petty criminals and not letting common people be harassed by hoods. He was fearless and would arrest anybody. But none of that changes the things he was convicted of. He was a good sherriff and a criminal both at the same time.

What the funny thing is you talk like you actually know something...but the truth is all you know is chewed up information...thats it...I have pictures of the pot you talk about piled in heaps burning....so the lies you tell were probally made up by you and your backwoods family sitting aroung spectulating on what you think happened to the pot...then you repeated it to see what it actually sounded like outloud and now that is your truth...your truth is fabricated lies...

Johnny Mann is still a good man and when he is released from prison he will continue to be. He is a husband, father, grandfather and good friend to many. So all you people out there who have nothing better to say your just mad because you are nothing in this world but a disapointment. if you were more than you could see that you are not all what you think you are.. everyone in this world has done something that could land them in jail. The only difference is YOU have not been caught yet. But always watch your back because your time could be next.
