I Just Recently Heard That Mr. Barrett (who has been the best band teacher our kids have had) is quitting because they keep taking his middle school classes away. Give me your thoughts and opinions on this subject. I for one think it's a tragedy for our children that cant play sports or anything else.

I went to school with him. I seemed okay in my opinion. Maybe he got tired for the grind.

Okay yes mr barrett did resign. he is a great teacher and the most amazing band director. there are alot of reasons why he quit.
It is a shame that they have cut his band classes in the middle school. You cannot have a high school band with out the kids having band in middle school. with no feeder program there is no hope for a high school program. my son has been in it since 6th grade and it changed his life. but in my own personal opinion our school system does not care about anything if it is not basketball.
anyway.... tony just needs a break from all the stress. most people have no idea how stressful and demanding the past few years have been for him.

He seems about as straight as a slinky. If he had spent more time encouraging all kids who were interested in music instead of his "special" marching band picks then he would've been appreciated more. Marching band appears to be crumbling too, guess that's what happens when you only pick the select few.

Thats bad because the band has a lot to do with the home basketball games.. the school system should be proud of all extra activities at school!!! But i agree with you if it dont have anything to do with basketball they dont care!

This is a current 1st chair clarinet speaking. Mr. Barrett was the best but he decided it was his time to resign as director. Sure it wil be a big pain in the ass to not have him anymore but life keeps going on. Tony has far taught me more than anyone and will still be around the county but the best thing to do is drop the subject because the current band kids don't need the stressful comments or etc. LET IT GO. We all can't control anyone's freewill and it's already done. no one can't change that. AND LEAVE MR. BARRETT ALONE! HE'S NOT GAY OR ANYTHING STUPID YOU ALL WANT TO BELIEVE ON HIM!!!!!

Tony Barrett was the best thing that has happened to Lee Co band. Yes he had been in that area for 10 years and it was time for a change. The band program wasn't dieing because he had his "picks" You my friend that said that clearly had no idea what was going on. The band was the least respected program in Lee County High School when cleary being 5th in the state of Kentucky wasn't good enough. Lee County will always be a basketball school but they will never reach that mark because the school is so small. If you don't know him, dont open your mouth cause you have no idea.

i agree 100% and must say without mr. barrett this band will not be as good. you may not like him but he is an amazing band director who brought this band from nothing to something great and i'm proud to be apart of for the last three years.

The band program won't be the as good as it was back in 2008........This new director probably won't be as great as Mr. B. No one will ever be greater than him.....Lee County won't be the same!

Mrs. Estes could do a great job if she was give a chance. People are trying to make trouble for her and if you won't quit the band then your talked bad about. Mr. B was great but he decided to quit and no matter what he says nobody made him do it. Mrs. E might let everybody march. I liked him but everybody knows Mr. B wanted us to stay a small band so that we didn't march against the bigger bands.

high five.:)
he ran the program into the ground by only letting certain kids in.
it was on a path to destruction. lol.
he killed it himself, and ruined it for everyone else that's left.

hey think about it like its ball only the best get to play. do you see the coaches puting the worst players putting out there worst players during districts? no you see them put their best ones (usauly the more experienced ones) out there because they want to win. wining is not everything but no one wants to lose. you don't have to beat everybody and win it all but the best feeling in the world is when you go out there and you give it everything you got and get what you feel you deserve.
