Sounds like the alcohol is what she lives for.

Another story that shows the ugly truth about the power of addiction.

That woman is certainly living in her own hell. I hope she can some how find her way out. I don't think I would be able to live with myself, I know that's why she went right back to the bottle. Guess I will never understand drinking.

I'm not a regular drinker, but if, god forbid, something happened to my son...you know what? Just thinking about something like that hurts. Imagine knowing that you were the cause...I would drink myself to death.
I would not be able to live with that kind of guilt or emotional trauma. There is no way. I think this woman has given up and is self destructing in the only way she knows how. The only way she has courage to. I understand the anger the child's father must feel. He probably can't stand the thought of her and was only too happy to call the law on her. I can't say I blame him for what he's feeling...but there is a part of me that wonders where her support system was. She committed a horrendous act, that she will live with for the rest of her life. Did anyone think she wouldn't be ready to hit the bar and drown the pain after the funeral? Why let her to do that to herself? Didn't anyone think to 'corral' her after the service, wrap their arms around her and just let her cry? Maybe help to guide her back to where she needed to be (jail)? Even if they hate her for what she's done, didn't they worry about her condition, driving on the roads? If no one cared enough about her to look after her during this time, of all times, then I can't help but think that she hasn't got a prayer |

A drunk is a drunk and that is their CHOICE. It's not an addiction or a disease. It's a choice. A self pitier that craves attention and refuses to take responsibility for their own actions. Their Choice!

Gee, Les, you've got an alcoholic you've been angry at for a long time, I'll bet. |
|
Lester,
I won't argue with you about personal responsibility. I'm a big believer in "If you're wrong, say you're wrong." and people mastering self-control. But this woman was self-medicating and I think it's disappointing that no one cared enough to try to intervene. No, you can't save everyone and people SHOULD be punished for their wrongs, but I don't understand how you could WATCH someone self-destructing and not take action. ...Heck, at least break contact and walk away, but to KNOW that she was in pain and KNOW where she was going to go or where she had ended up... It's just sad story that won't have a fairytale ending. |

Wow. SeeChelPost is right on. Lester is way way off. This young lady has her entire life to come to terms with her 26th birthday. A day that should bring a little joy every year will only bring her the realization that the day she was born is the same day she died.

Alcoholism is a disease. It is treated. AA folks will inform you that they are NEVER cured. It is "One Day At A Time". Most people know that fact.
This unfortunate soul is an alcoholic. |

Let us all not forget that this is only a small part of a what I am sure is a much larger story. From the sounds of it, I am sure this isn't an isolated incident with this woman. Before we pass judgement, let us all remember that this is one article in a drama that most likely has a lot more substance to it than this one article states. Most people do not simply use marijuina one time on the birthday and mixing it with alcholol is very dangerous. Before you want to console this lady and reach out to her, let us not forgot: SHE KILLED A 6 YEAR OLD CHILD by being IRRISONSIBLE and IMMATURE. Her actions are the direct result of the death of a child and by all accounts, isn't the first time she put the life of her child on the line. From the sounds of it, it was only a matter of time before she killed someone or her child. Let us not forget: this child 6 year old child was in the front seat WITHOUT a seat belt. You can want to console her all you want, but her childish and irrisponsible actions caused the death of this child. Instead of taking responsibility for this and stepping up and being an adult: she does the one thing that caused the death of this child: going to a bar and would have been driving had the father not called police. You can want to console her all you want, but this lady is directly responsible for the death of a child by acting like a child and not being an adult. It wasn't a "one time thing" because pot users don't simply do it one time to celebrate on their 26th birthday to try it, it is a lifestyle. You can want to console her, but her drinking, drug use and driving killed this innocent child and then instead of taking responsibility for it and becoming an adult when she was giving the responsibility by the state to attent the funeral, she immediately goes back to her childish antics and visits a bar. This is not responsibility, this is the actions of a child who doesn't learn. Sorry, but I am shocked that anyone can feel any remorse for someone like this. |

In 1956, the American Medical Association (AMA) stated alcoholism was a disease, as it met the five criteria needed in order to be considered a disease: pattern of symptoms, chronicity, progression, subject to relapse, and treatability. |
|
|
The 'AMA' has labeled many indulgences with names and classified them as diseases for the purpose of 'treating' them.
The only 'Alcoholics' that I have ever seen or known that have been successfully 'Treated' finally made a decision to stop drinking themselves. The rest is just smoke and mirrors and another excuse for a drunk to feel sorry for himself. I know this first hand, I didn't have to read it in a medical journal.

Right on Andy!! Lets strip her naked and whip her to death in the public square. In spite of her neglect, lets not forget that it was her own child she killed, and that is somethiing she'll live or die by for the rest of her days. If it happened to you, purely by accident, when you were sober, I imagine that it would be devastating to you and your family. I vote for Andy to be God's personal judge of human actions on Earth. In the meantime, I'll reserve judgement, because we never know what can happen in our lives on any given day. |

I understand your perspective and it's valid. I would bet that the torment inside of her head for the rest of her life is far worse than anything that could be said or done to her. Can you imagine the realizations and imagery that will play over and over? I wouldn't wish that on anyone. |

Andy, I admit, I don't know anything about alcohol, and I didn't mean I was running to her defense. There is no defense, when one is so careless about the life of another. Especially a child. What I am thinking is to have to live with that guilt, of knowing, that she has taken her child life. I am sure that scene will run through her mind for the rest of her life.
