closing a union plant, moving jobs to a non-union plant, imagine that.

well I for one am glad. I was sick of paying bills, Owning a home, driving a car, eating, and being able to provide for my family. And I would make a change IF I could afford it.

Alliance Laundry in Ripon is looking for manufacturing workers. They are booming in business over there...for now anyway. They are adding a second shift.

The new hires, though, should expect a lay off
during the cold months this winter, but it will pick up again early next spring again.

Just go over and put your ap in and get it on file.

They have a union, but it is useless. They were forced into allowing the new hires to be on a much lower pay level than the older workers. One plant in FL refused to go along with this idea and they shut it down, moving all the ops up here to WI where the union is useless.

It isn't much, but enough money to be better off than a person working as a Walmart cashier.

Very sad for the workers and their families to lose these good union jobs. The comment above from bfa is crap. USW 2-1327 is a great local that provides excellent representation to it's membership. Keeping jobs in Ripon is a high priority. Oshkosh Corp (formerly Oshkosh Truck) is also looking for people with manufacturing experience.

bfa here:

keeping jobs in Ripon is a high priority...Yes

keeping good paying jobs in Ripon is not

The union is weak just as all the unions around the country are weak. Global competition has ruined our union structure in this country. There are too many third world workers who only wish to make a few dollars per day to survive in their low cost of living areas.

Before the vote, union members were wearing Mexican soumbraroes in protest of the damned if you do and damned if you don't trap.

It's Hoffmaster, they buy all these plants and then close them, like they did plants in Georgia and the N.E. and California.

Missed this posting in 2008. I once worked for Paper art/ Creative Expression group that had there manufacturing plant closed and then was moved Hoffmaster. What comes around goes around. We lost many jobs on that move.

hi JPB, I actually interviewed at the plant you were talking about in Indiana. An awesome plant there in Indianapolis! Then Hoffmaster bought it and the James River plant in California and screwed them all up. Hoffmaster has generated a ton of bad karma.:)
