our school buses should have some type of air conditioner for the summertime and heater in the winter!! My babies are so hot when they get off the bus that their hair is soaking wet, it is crazy. i know that we have had a hot summer, but i feel as a taxpayer that they could come with some kind of solution.

This is what is wrong with America in general. Parents that get worked up over the stupidest crap. When you went to school I am sure you didn't have an A/C on the bus, and you are still here. This is why kids grow up today and can't hold down a job, or be productive in society.

I went to school and rode a bus every day with no heat or air, although I'm pretty sure we had heat. I don't remember freezing to death. I'm still alive. My son made it through school with none as well. He's still alive. Your child will survive. We all did. With all the starting and stopping buses do there is no way an air conditioner could keep up anyway. It would be pointless.

The point I was getting at is that maybe they could start school in Sept and go to the end of June, instead of starting in August and going to May. It was just a thought. And I know they will survive, Im not that stupid! It just seems that school starts earlier, in the months that it is the hottest. And you (give me a break) are just rude!!! You need to get that dick out of your ass and calm down!!!

Are you willing to raise your taxes to pay for the equipment, installation, and extra maintenance that would be required. As far as starting school later.....you better start lobbying your state legislators because the "tests" and such make it necessary to start school earlier to have the kids prepared for the "test". Now...I'll agree with you that the test is useless, but it's the law and the schools have no choice....just like you have no choice and I don't have a choice. I spent a lot of years on a hot/cold school bus, and survived. Even have a lot of good stories to tell about our experiences. Your kids will make it just fine. They need to toughen up a little like all the rest! By the way....as a taxpayer, you have to right to approach the County Commission and School Boards at their next meetings to ask for that tax increase for all those air conditioners.

I just asked my kid if they had heat on the bus he rides, and he said "I don't think so". I said, "man, dont you freeze?" and he said...."DUH Mom, thats why we wear jackets, geeze!!" I laughed and had to share, because he is right. He went on to say that he thinks there are heaters underneath the seats, but with all the pickups/drop offs it doesn't really matter if the heat is on or not :D. I also rode the bus with no air and minimal heat, I survived, and I don't feel any less inconvenienced now in life because I was without it then.

You need to get that dick out of your ass and calm down!!! You sound like an outstanding parent with your last comment there. Do you teach the little darlings to have such a filthy mouth? Telling him that he is rude should be enough, though I do agree with him. By the way, the buses do have heaters and they have old fashioned air conditioning. They go down the road with the windows down. I survived the bus ride, my son did and my grandkids do. I have never heard of a kid dieing of heat stroke on a bus here in Grainger County. Your little darlings will make it too. Lets hope they don't use as much profanity as their parent though.

So now you try to cover your ignorance with lies. Typical. You have the mentality of an eight year old no matter what your real age is.

I drive a bus for Grainger and my bus has heat and air conditioning, the students never wanna use the air they always want the windows down instead. The only time they wanna use it is when we are sitting still loading at the schools.

How can you say getting worked up over a child getting too hot is stupid crap you got kids?? we live in the south and have had heat index up to 115 so how dare you. You may live where you dont worry bout these things but I am looking into trying to do something about this

You may live where you dont worry bout these things but I am looking into trying to do something about this There is a very easy solution to the problems with heat and cooling on the school buses. Simply raise taxes enough to equip every school bus in the county with 2 heating/cooling units similar to what is found on RVs. I'm sure the cost for these units will be very manageable. They will also need to hire one more employee who is trained in maintaining these new units and installing them. I wonder how many "concerned" parents are so concerned about the heat and cold to agree to a tax increase of this magnitude. Let's see how many "blast" my suggestion. That will tell who is concerned and who is not. By the way, I would support putting air conditioning on the school buses. They are already equipped with heat. My kids are grown, but it would have been nice had they had more cool air on the bus!

I had to walk a quater mile to catch the bus and I hated it. my children are 4 and 6. I take them because I don't like alot of things that goes on on the bus. I didnt mind not having air though. I would've enjoyed it better but it was no big deal.

As many of you on here I too rode a bus to and from school. No heat and no air. HOWEVER, my 5 year old gets on the bus at 2:45 travels across town to the Elementary School where they wait sometimes up to 30 minutes to get loaded. They then travel to the Intermediate School where they sit for another 10 to 15 minutes waiting to get loaded. Finally at 4:30pm they arrive home (I have a 5 and 7 year old) soaking wet from sweat. I never in all the years of riding a school bus, ride for 1 hour and 45 minutes with the heat index over 100. The students are not allowed to talk on the bus. If they start talking the drive pulls over and waits until they become quiet. Riding a bus has never hurt anyone. But keep in mind children dehydrate alot faster than adults and amost 2 hours in this heat could potentially be a killer. If you leave your child in a car in this heat you go to jail. My 5 year old is sitting still for a minumum of 45 mins a day on a bus with no air flow and heat index of 109 (today). So all of you out there saying you did this and your kids did that and they are still alive. Pat yourself on the back because I personally dont want my children having a heat stroke on a school bus. Hydration is the key. However, again the kids are not allowed to bring drinks to school. I was told they get water fountain breaks. Call me over protective if you like but I love my kids and dont want to see them die.

Why don't you just load your "Little Darlings" up in your Mini-van and take them to school?? I hope they have air conditioned ramps like airlines do so it's air conditioned all the way to the class room. Can't get any fresh air now, can we?
