Let clients go to other counties. PB County has enough problems without having to deal with people from all over the US.

There are sober homes in many communities. That house next door with all those women in Wellington is a sober home. They can infiltrate any neighborhood and that can be disruptive due to all the visitors and boyfriends waiting outside.

Send the companies out of county and state. Anybody can now ask for a not-for-profit status it seems.

They are ALL over. Too many not-for-profits, with high salaries.

It's not those in treatment who are a nuisance. It's the untreated children of "local officials and residents" who are the problem.

I have no problem with the treatment centers for profit or non profit status. I do not see why they should be an issue for the local police, they should be required to provide GOOD security out of those profits. Its a sad truth, but people recovering from chemical addictions are not trustworthy and do stupid stuff, I have lived with 2 of them so I know. I understand the neighbors concernes, but if one of these facilities was put in an area AND they provided their own competent, quality security it should not be a problem. The problem is most of the time they put in a $9 security guy that is either an idiot, predator, theife or addict of some kind.
Make them do it right, make the Fat Cat at the top RESPONSIBLE for dealing with these people and not just cherry pick the easy parts

Why not a campus out in the boonies,
like Okeechobee ?
A client would really have to work at falling off the wagon when the nearest crack dealer or liquor store is not just around the corner like is
the case over by Lowson Ave.

In response to Caron Foundations willingness to provide chemical dependency residential treatment in your area, I suggest that adults and adolescents IN treatment pose less of a risk to the community than the population at large. Why not research other cities and areas where facilities have coexisted with communities? Being a therapist in the addicitons field, it is my experience that the people seeking treatment at Caron are no different than the residents and family members in the community opposing the approval. Caron is a fine foundation with a great track record. They treat the same patient mix as Betty Ford Clinic, Hazelden Foundation, Sierra Tucson, and many other of the top treatment facilities in America.

McCarty said. "These centers make a lot of money. They hide behind their status as not-for-profits and yet have administrators that make huge, huge salaries, and they hire lobbyists to protect their right to make money. McCarty should know all about lobbyist, as her brother is now bringing his lobbying firm to PBC. Politicians, builders, attorneys......hide behind for profit LLC, INC. etc... to do their dirty dealings, legally.
She added. "But does Palm Beach County have to give them tax-free bonds to continue?" She knows all about bond deals from the money her husband has made over thears on PBC bond deals.
Just because taxpayers aren't at financial risk doesn't appease McCarty and several opponents to the foundation's planned expansion. Since when does she care about spending our tax dollars?

Florida's biggest problem dealing with corruption is the fact that our legislature has made it private info as to who REALLY owns LLC, INC, Corp, etc. This has made it legal for corrupt business to hide behind these non-existant entities to do there money laundering, payoffs, etc. Not just not-for-profit trying to to help out society become healthier.
Something like that

"McCarty said the foundation and other local rehabilitation centers are a haven for addicts who are released locally and, sometimes, become vagrants and a burden to local law enforcement."
Like there aren't homeless people already. This comment is just stupid!

Really strange! Obviously Ms. Tagaris is after McCarty, but this seems like a stupid area to attack her since Ms. Tagaris made the front page of the Post in 04 for listing some poor schmo as president of a 527 group even though he said he knew nothing about it. These 527's are used to hide money and where it comes from. Of course Ms. Tagaris claimed she knew nothing about it even though her campaign mgr's book keeper was listed as cfo. I think maybe she likes going after sherriff's and commissioners so she can get her name in print and pretend to be a crusader.

These "addicts" are free to walk out at any time. For this reason, surrounding residents should be aware of the possible problems that can arise from being near a Caron facility.

Seems somebody else has this woman's number. It will be interesting to see if she gets back in the political arena.. and what kind of people would align themselves with her.
