All the Youth Protection Act calls for is getting parents permission before recruiters can talk to minors. I think that is a good safe-guard against the youth being taken advantage of.

We already must have permission before talking to any school age kid. When the kids register for school they have the opportunity to opt out of the military call list. Simple as that, they opt out, we do not have their information to call.

If you already must have permission, then why are you on here so enthusiastically bashing the Youth Protection Act? Why does it matter then? This Act must somehow be encroaching on your ability to recruit or you would not be fighting it so much. Whatever you write, recruiter, only serves as evidence that the Youth Protection Act does matter and will have an effect on recruiting .. and could set a precedent that would might make recruiting more challenging.

But thats just it, it hasnt one bit. I have had more people walk up to me, not just potential recruits telling me how stupid the act is, how they are ashamed about the act, this and that.
I personally am not fighting it, I could really care less what happens. Beacuse when the day is over I am going to do my job the exact same way I always have regardless. The fact is, recruiting is up all across the country not just here in Humboldt County. Does the economy have a great impact on that? Of course!

Once again, what are they ashamed of? If this has no bearing on your recruiting process and so many people are coming in to enlist,as you claim, why even use your time to argue moot points? If recruiting is up all over the country, then let Eureka/Arcata have their just say and don't bother posting any more. You say "recruiting" is up all across the country ... that is not the same as "enlistments" are up all acroos the country. So, if "recruiting is up all acroos the country that seems to me you are having to "work" harder to get enlistments. Therefore, this Act and the precedent it may set probably bothers you and your ilk. "I could really care less what happens" = As long as I can still collect my paycheck and someone else is deployed overseas.

Wow, thats not what I said what so ever, but okay.... enlistments are up 55% compared to this same time last year across the country, not just here in Humboldt. The only reason why the act bothers me is beacuse someone out there believes we are something that we are not. No one in charge of proposing this act has come down to our offices, talked with us, nothing! They have no idea who we are and what we do, thats what truly bothers me.

When I said I could care less what happens to the act simply means that it will not effect my job what so ever. Rarely do we ever approach anyone, regardless of age out walking the town. 9 times out of 10 they come up to us and start a conversation. I work hard regardless how many recruits I have enlisted, what you and so many others fail to realize is the only reward I get is seeing the young men and women I help enlist come back from training and hearing their stories, wether good or bad.

Keep the recruiters out of the schools. OK, and keep the tax money out as well.
You all want your cake but you don't want to pay for it.
If a kid under 18 is to stupid to understand what is going on in the world and why recruiters want them then quite possibly those kids may not get recruited due to their stupidity.
Gee, how lucky they can be.

Using your logic...
What's the difference between the Federal Government mandating recruiters on high school campuses through No Child Left Behind and Jihadist recruiting school children in other countries like Somolia?

Our recruiters are not forcing kids as young as 7/8 yrs old and others to be walking bombs.
Also a lot of their kids can't even attend a school.
That's logic your apple and oranges is not.

It must have it a little close to home for you. Perhaps you would like Hippie loving treehugger to punch you in thecock with his mouth.

Daily Horoscope for January 7

Leo

You'll be action-oriented today, Leo. If truth be told, intense physical activity has the ability to soothe you much more than frenzied mental exercise. Invitations to madness are the wrong thing for you, but they are tempting nonetheless. Dig in your heels and do what you know you have to do. When driving this evening, take extra care.
