The city passed a new smoking ordinance tonight at council so no more smoking in restaurants and hotels.

You can still smoke in bars and that's about it.

The Ord will start in 14 days.

I am a non-smoker and I don't agree with this at all.

I think it should be left up to the business to decide if they want smoking in their establishment or not.

If the people don't like the smoke... they won't patronize the establishment.

These things are better left up to the free market... rather than having government meddling in them.

That is a sure sign of what kind of City Council La Porte has, one that wants to control your private lives and tell you how to live them.

It's a non-issue. Houston has had this for about 10 years. It will attract more people to restaurants. The majority of the population doesn't want the trash at the table next door ruining their food. If you don't want to smoke outside, move to another town.

So... smokers are trash to you?

No one is trash, Elaine.

It's a shame you think other people are lesser than yourself.

That's probably the main reason you and I don't get along... you think you're so much better than me.

You would have never driven down the road I have walked... and I would never walked down the road you drive... but you are no better than me... we just take different paths to the same place.

El Ranchero won't be the same place without the morning people that come in for breakfast, coffee and cigarettes.

But... I guess City Council does not care if it costs businesses on Main street.

Their goal is to force out all the little people anyway... so they can buy up all the property.

El Ranchero will have MORE business now.

The 81% of the public who do not smoke will not have their food ruined by the 19% of the public who do smoke.

If you want to stink, move to Baytown.

It's about time Lp reaches toward the 20th century. Should have included bars too.

Wrong. When it was enacted in one town, my friend's business dropped by more than 50%.

You can thank Councilman Leonard for the ordinance. I heard he has worked on it for some time.
I think it is a good thing. I smoke, but not while I am eating, it ruins the taste of my food. Love to smoke when drinking. If you cannot live without smoking for an hour mayne you need help.
Elaine nobody is trash; some just smell like it when they sit near you while you eat. What will the older people at the senior center do now? Maybe they can sell those electronic smokes legally in town.
The fine could get stiff for repete offenders, up to $2000.00. The law is a lot like Pasadena's. I guess smokers last chance is Deer Park don't think they have one YET.

Not a NS at all. Keep your stink out of my food. I can't bring a skunk into a restaurant. I can't belch or fart out loud without being asked to leave. How is smoking any different other than we're used to it?

Have you actually tried all those things?
