Everything sounds too familar. My check has been turned down at WALMart, Aeropostle, and a game store called Game Stop. The first time it was declined I called the 800 # they give for Certegy Check services, spoke to someone and was told at that time the problem was within K-mart, they had did some type of random identity theft check on all checks coming through. My checks continued to decline at different stores like every other time I would try and write a check. Within probably a two week period of calling these people after being declined and embarrased at the store, even when sometimes it would say call for verification, the cashier would call to verify and give all the necessary info they needed to prove it was indeed me and not a stole check they would still say denial code 2 , which only means need more info on the check writer. Nothing was making sense, and within this period of thinking ok,,, will I get embarrased today?, each time I called Certegy it was a different reason of why the check was denied. I have heard its a young acct., check numbers were up in the 1000's, you don't have a long enough check history, of course the good one, "keep writing checks until your acct. gets established", even one time they said we needed to go back in the store and write the check for a different amount and it would go through, WHAT!!!!!! Nothing made since and no they could not give me the guidelines they claimed they were going by based on my acct. No one could ever say excatly what the deal was and what guidelines they were going by so I would know if I should try to write a check and take the chance of being embarrased and very very frustrated, or just pay by cash because of the guidelines and I knew it wasnt going to go through. I just had to take that chance. Oh also Goodys Clothing Stores also uses Certegy. This is very frustrating,, what has to be done to get these people out of business??????????

Well, I can understand your frustration, but I can not tell you the last time I wrote a check or seen someone writing a check in a department store. Why not pay with cash or Visa check card? I write one check a month, that is the house payment.

I'ts not a matter of how many checks you write, has absolutely no bearing on his comment,it's actually faster to use a check at Wal-Mart than a debit card, 3 x's faster in fact, all you do is sign and they do not incur any debit or credit card fees as a merchant. In every case, over 1000 the customer was given the run a round as to why, nearly all being repeat cust' and were informed to use cash instead.

I am Literally PISSED!! For the second year in a row now, my Tax Refund checks have been declined at Wal-Mart's Money Centers. in 2012, I cashed a Tax refund check in the amount of 4000.00, and every year since, I have had the same issue...I get a number to call, and am told some BS answer. First they tell me that the transaction was processed right, and that there was no fraudulent activity in my "FILE", but then they come at me with more BS about check cashing patterns, and amounts, and locations that are abnormal and that the system randomly declines cashing checks that don't meet their standards....WTH???????? I don't even have Personal Checks...I use my Debit card for all transactions. All I'm ever trying to do is cash a U.S. Treasury Check from the Internal Revenue Service...What's suspicious about that???? I'm cashing this check during Tax refund season...Like most everyone else...What's so Suspicious about that??? I have spoken to Certegy Rep. after Rep trying to get a Straight answer and some info on what I can do the fix an Issue that apparently doesn't even EXIST....WTH???? No one can tell me what to do, about this and how to get "The CERTEGY CURSE" off of Me. THIS IS WRONG!!!..As I said before I don't even use Checks as a payment method, but Now I'm Terrified after reading the previous comments...I guess I need to make myself aware of what businesses use the BOGUS form of check Verification...I feel that I'm being singled out and picked on for something that I haven't even Done...and THIS ISN"T FAIR...I cant use a service that is available to many others...a service that is convenient to most, EXCEPT MYSELF....Certegy needs to be EXAMINED by the Better Business Bureau....!

OP, Are you Michael from Tucson or did you just copy this post from his other Topix post?

http://www.topix.com/forum/com/beyond/TK6H9RI...

Or did you copy it from this thread:
http://www.topix.com/forum/com/beyond/TK6H9RI...

For some reason, you have the energy to post this gripe in every small town forum on Topix.com . Yet you don't have the energy to call the company and straighten out the problem (or pay your bills, which is probably why your check was declined).

Manage you money better and you won't have these problems.

I've cashed my payroll checks through Walmart with no problem. So it was nothing to me to bring in my income tax check. She ran it and a receipt came out saying reason 2 call a 1800 number. So 20 mins later with a very antsy 7 yr old trying to wait as patiently as he can, I'm told there's nothing wrong with the check wait 10 mins try again. Again, reason 2. So I wait 3 days try again same thing. So I start googling and I see all of these complaints and all the same things I've been going through and I'm confused. I've never wrote or cashed a bad check, my credit is good, I've never been in trouble with the law, my background is good, why can't I cash my check?? I could see if I was someone who had a bad background with maybe checks or fraud but I don't. There are no other places around here who cash checks. I'm not a fan of banks other then to cash things so I don't have an account why should I when I can go to Walmart? This is a terrible place to basically deny people their right to cash their own checks that they worked so hard for. I have things to take care of, a son to take care of, and my life is on hold due to this. Its ridiculous.

I call B.S.! Wal-Mart won't hesitate to cash a U.S. Treasury check.

My guess is that you don't have a proper ID or the check is made out to someone else besides you.

And why are you cashing your checks rather than depositing them in a bank like the rest of the adult world? Who are you dodging by not having a bank account? I speculate that someone is dodging the bill collector or child support payments.

Don't get mad at me. It's you that is doing something wrong. Pay your bills and obey the law and you won't have problem with Wal-Mart.

People don't let this sweat hog give you advice, he can't even manage his own life let alone advise you. He is a nut case and angry because Walmart did not hire him after he studied to get the job.

Others here say get a bank account, use a visa, use a debit card, don't look so shady, don't do drugs, get better credit ratings -- that's why Walmart won't cash your check?

Walmart won't cash my IRS income tax refund check, either. I have credit cards (with low or no balances), a good job, good ID, great credit score, paid cash for my house, middle-aged professional with a government job. I spend $1000's per year at Walmart.com online, shopping on a regular basis, never had any of those purchases denied. IRS check is to the same address and name that Walmart ships all my other purchases to.

WHY would I go to Walmart instead of depositing my refund check into my account? Because when you file married filing jointly and the IRS issues the check in both your names and you and your spouse do not have a joint checking account -- and never will, so that's just something I'll have to deal with -- even if both of you have the same account at a bank, no one will cash that check. They will only cash it if it is a joint account. Hence the need to use a service like Walmart's check cashing service once a year. I did manage to successfully get my tax refund check cashed with them last year.

So something else is up, unless it's just random. I did find out that federal income tax checks go through a treasury checking service, perhaps they use that? That service is only available during government business hours. Maybe try cashing your federal income tax check mid-week during the day? I was trying to cash mine after 8 PM on a Friday -- yeah, I waited in line for 40 minutes before getting up to the front of the line only to be told no. Pretty crappy customer service. That's one thing Walmart is really known for.

I am a business owner and certigy declines my business checks all the time. They want me to deposit 2500 dollar's into their account to cover any overdrafts. My bank called them and told me not to do business with companies that are doing business with certigy.
