Well this boys writing sure tells me a lot about LaPortes education. Seems to me with someone that writes as such should be doing more studying in the English Language and less homeboy crap. Wonder how much crack he has in his pocket right now?

And would someone please define HOMEBOY......Is that a black person, a gang person, a gangbanger, someone from the guetto (misspelled I know).

The things that you spouted off are rude and ignorant. La Porte is a quiet community and this is not typical. I take it that you are an old man, not knowing that a homeboy is slang for a friend...it is a term used by various races of people. In the future, get a clue before you speak and make yourself look stupid!

First things first, I find it very disturbing that yall all are blaming La Porte's education system for the way people talk. That was nothing to do with it. I am a La Porte Grad from '09 and I am very capable of writing and speaking properly, I just choose not to when I'm typing to my friends. La Porte's education is just as good as any other school districts education. Education is education. The teachers are going to do their job. The most important part of the education system is are the kids willing to actually listen and pay attention to what the teachers are saying, and to take pride in learning what is being taught, instead of wasting 7 hours every day.

Another thing that I am appalled at is the fact that so many of the people posting comments on here are talking so much shit about all of these young men when yall know nothing about any of them. Yall are just writing stuff to see what people say. Yall don't know their lives, what kind of people they were, the history between the 5 of the LP boys and the Baytown boy. Yall don't know anything, except what other people who know nothing about anything say as well. The news doesn't ever give you the whole story.

I knew all of the LP boys from high school. So they had a criminal record. So what? People do things in their past that they are not proud of when their younger. It doesn't mean they can't change. Yea they acted out in school, but what teenage boy doesn't act out in school. They got in fights before, but in high school these days fights happen almost every day. I know that it was not the intention of Josh and the rest of them to kill that boy that night. I wouldn't even say they got carried away during the fight. To them, it was just like any other fight, the only difference was that when they walked away, dude wasn't living no more. I'm not condoning them killing that boy, at all. I'm just saying, I don't think the death penalty should even be considered. It wasn't pre-contemplated what-so-ever. Even the family of the victim shouldn't want them to get the death penalty, because a worse punishment would be for them to sit in prison the rest of their lives and have to think about what they did, rather than just kill them. But I also don't think life in prison is necessary either. We are talking about kids that were 17, 18, and 19 years old at the time of their arrest. They have their whole lives in front of them. They realize the severity of what they did. I'm almost positive that this experience has taught them a valuable lesson and that they want to change their lives around. It sometimes takes a person getting serious time in order to realize you need to change your life. My brother has been in and out of jail all his life. He just recently got threatened with a 8 year sentence. It really opened his eyes and made him realize that this isn't how he wants to spend the rest of his life. So he's using this sentence as an opportunity to get his GED, start getting prepared to work in the real world when he gets out. When you do serious time, there are opportunities on the inside to better your life when you get out. I think that's what they need. So when they get out, they can live a good life, and not have to subjected to the lifestyle that many young people these days are subjected to. Its sad really. I really do hope that Josh and them use this experience to fix their lives, and that one day when they get out, they make something of themselves.

That all sounds just hunky dorey until you have to fill out an employment application.

The question that kills ya is "Have you ever been convicted of a felony" ? You will not get hired !

Thats true. They will never be able to get a really god job, but they will at least be able to get a god enough job to help them survive, and not have to resort to the streets to make a living.

I've known a few that had a horrible time finding a place to live!! Personally, I think it should not be held against them after a lengthy period of staying out of trouble.

I had a friend drive thru the N Side and rolled her window down to say hi to someone she had gone to school with a few years prior....they grabbed her purse and ran.....as far as the houses, many don't look that bad to me, kinda cute, actually. Did these kids ever have their day in court?
I graduted in 95 from LP and let me say I know one of these young men personally and he is serving time for his presence at the time of this crime, I will say that if that was my son dead I would want justice as well as anyone else because even though it was a fist fight .... if you cause harm to someone even though you did not intend to kill them you should have a price to pay, and the young man I know had it hard he lived with my SIL and BIL back and forth for about 6 years and my BIL was murdered right before this happen so I know that this young man was in pain and hurt, but I would be a fool to say he didn't deserve to serve time because if that was my son that was dead I would want to see some type of justice as well. But as far as the North side of La Porte being dangerous... well sweetie try the North side of Houston, or any metro area in a city... and I think you and your friend will feel alot different, just because someone is poor does not make them a thief or make them commit murder...

I'd be willing to bet that this is a story your "friend" made up after she tried to buy crack and got ripped off.

It's sounds like the usual story a police officers hears.

"Oh... officer, I was just driving through the neighborhood and saw a friend from high School, so I rolled down my window to talk to them and they threw all this crack in my car."

I randomly stumbled upon this topic 3 years later and have never been more amused!

The only thing I would like to contribute to this conversation is that it is not LPISD's fault that these children are clearly uneducated. I graduated from LaPorte with an adequate education. I am 25, own my own home in Shoreacres, have a college education, and a well paying job. The difference between me and these kids posting in this forum is that my parents gave a damn. Doing bad in school was never an option. If anyone is to blame for any of this, it is the parents.
