I pay my school taxes and not these children! They have no right trashing a school. I as a parent would be ashamed.

I accept that. I'm a teacher and am use to being blamed for what students do. When your child fails, you blame me. I'm the reason kids today have a total disregard for authority, skip school, sleep in class, continuously on their cell phones, fail to turn in any assignment (let's forget about homework); so blame me. The person who puts more in than 60 hours a week, making less than $50,000 a year, who worries whether or not your kid passed that end of the year assessment just so they can have a brighter future. But once you finish pointing the fingers, put it into perspective.
Last month at Baytown Sterling, they had a true riot. A student called in a bomb threat and administration wore bullet proof vests that day for personal protection. Fights by the dozens broke out among the students, then between students and staff, students began lighting up marijuana in the building and one pulled a knife, all while the STAAR test was still on campus.
So again, I ask you, perspective. These students threw glitter. It was a prank. It could have been worse. Does it really warrant not being able to participate in ceremonies? And what about the juniors and sophomores who participated? Will they not be participating in their graduation either? From my understanding, the food fight started with the juniors. Per the South Campus Prinicpal, juniors and sophomores were involved.
We're you ever 18? I know as seniors at Deer Park my class did pranks. So did the classes before and after mine. This class was just way more organized. It was stupid, but a prank. A childish, stupid prank.
And to the mother whose daughter was assaulted and left exposed, charges would have been pressed against that young man had it been my daughter.

With all due respect, you are a fool.
These students were warned over the announcements that the punishment for this behavior would be severe (were told specifically that they would not walk and would receive a DAEP assignment) BEFORE the incidents occurred.
They did it anyway.
They were warned again when classes resumed after lunch.
They did again.
They were warned every class period.
They did it anyway.
They threw glitter. Glitter is difficult to clean-up. It gets everywhere and never completely gets cleaned away.
They threw bottles of water and gatorade. This is dangerous and stupid.
They threw paint bombs. Who on earth cares if it was washable. Guess what? Some things don't wash that way. Some clothes won't ever wash a paint bomb out.
They ignored the large amount of teachers that were there to specifically stop this behavior. After lunch they ignored a significant police presence that arrived to stop this.
If they showed up at your house to do this you would have them arrested.
This was immature lawless rioting by a bunch of 18 year old spoiled children.
Attitudes like yours are how they got that way.
Every student involved in this that got caught deserved every punishment they got. They were lucky they didn't get anything more.

Maybe so, I don't keep up with the news because its always negative. My son just showed me a picture and said it was DPHS.

I have seen kids from 8 to 18 wh0 have no respect for anybody or anything. I worked with kids for more years than I can count. When they misbehaved (cursed. vandalized equipment, etc.) I would call parents and get an attitude of oh well what am I supposed to do. I am speaking of Deer Park kids but they are not the only ones. Kids nowadays have too many electronics, cell phones, money and free time. Wake up parents.

The broad brush you paint kids with lessens any credibility you might have had. They're many more good kids than bad. You wake up

The header of this forum makes me chuckle. Really, folks, DPHS RIOTS? LMAO. No, I don't think this is an appropriate title for kids being stupid. Now, when George Zimmerman gets off on a light sentence, THEN you will see riots, sad but true. Let's compare the two afterwards!

." How many of you know that a large group of seniors stayed after to help the custodians clean up? Oh, you didn't? Well, they did."
THESE KIDS WERE FORCED TO STAY AND HELP CLEAN UP!!!! They shut down the school... No one was allowed to stay after school.

Let me just tell you my story. I was bullied at Deepwater Junior in the 90's and also went to the school councilor about being raped. I was told by her that rape is "hard to prove" and to just move on. My parents where never called about me going and asking for help. Then went on to Deer Park High Where there I was bullied because I wore amethyst jewery and called a "witch" daily. This was back in early 90's same time frame, I was also punched in the face on my way to the bus. I went to the principal at the time and was told "we do not tolerate witchcraft" let me just say I did not have black hair wore black or creepy looking had any books about that or spoke of it. My father bought me this jewery that in no way shape or form was even associated with that nor did I have any occult involvement. I just wore jewery that apparently was not " acceptable" it had zero symbols it was a crystal thats it! I expressed this to the principal that I was being teased and hit for no reason. And he pretty much said "sorry for ya" if they think your a witch tuff because "we do not tolerate that here" . Tolerate What? Wearing crystal jewelry? So he did nothing to stop the nasty things said or done to me. The girl who punched me was called into the office and they where a little to "buddy buddy" with each other I noticed and she just laughed and they had a jolly good time while I sat there in shock. I was never helped by this school system and I know I was not the only one at that time. I hope its changed and those staff members from DWJH and Deer Park High are gone because if I knew then what I know now I would have hired a lawyer and exposed them for what they where. I am 38 now and my 9th grade year moved . Thank god for that... they cover things up and should be exposed for what they have done to past students and ones going thru anything now.
