Has anyone else' teen come home worried about rumors they are hearing? I am hearing concerns from students that they fear someone is going to do something at their school on Friday. With it being 12/21 etc..

Topix, as you will find out, is not the place to get a knowledgable reply.

However, it is a place for an internet troll or high school student to start a rumor. Please, OP, tell US what you heard in detail. Name names. Don't leave anything out. ( you wouldn't be trying to get out of algebra would you?)

I've contacted the administration at LPH alrady. As I already know as a parent, lots goes on at the school that parents aren't exactly made aware of. I got a text from a student sharing her worries about my child going to school on Friday - as her mother is keeping her home due to rumors at school and twitter that someone 'unknown' is going to do something stupid. I don't exactly see LP Topix as a place a teen would start 'rumors'.. I'd see it more on their fb page. I'm not an idiot - I only wondered if any other parent's kids were sharing their concerns.

Also, I was told by the school administration to keep an eye on the LPISD website. Yay.

That's not going to be a good day to send your kid to school... or for anyone to go to work anyway. Every nut that wants the world to end... will be most prone to go out and and do something Friday. It's a good day to call in sick... and stay home with the ones you love. Resume as normal on Monday.

Saw it on FB

I saw posts about it on FB. Parents were saying their kids were talking about it. Most I know are keeping them home. When they tried calling the school, all were being put straight to voicemail and the school is blowing them off. Some I read about were going to call the police and maybe the media to alert them that the school seems to be ignoring their concerns. My children don't attend there so, I don't know how true all of that is. I know with past issues I've had, LPISD is all about blowing off issues and passing the buck.

I have friends in Ohio & Alabama that are expressing the same concerns through facebook. Apparently rumors are starting at schools across the country. It's a shame our kids have to live like this.

There are currently two La Porte police officers at the high school full time, plus two security guards. There is only one class on Friday and that is 7th period, beginning at 9:00 and ending at 10:30. If you keep your kids home, they will need to make up their test if they have one. If they don't have a test, I would certainly stay home-just because it would be a waste of time to sit up there and do nothing.

I see they finally put something on the news about it. At least I feel someone knows about it or isn't blowing it off as I believed when I contacted school admin. I'll chk and see what exam my son has that day.

Unless they are going to search everyone, students and adults, entering the school, having heightened security means nothing!

Not sure about everyone else, but my childrens lives are not something I want to gamble with. I dont care what the event or day is, it's just not worth it to me to take the chance. We all know that no one can do a thing to stop this, if someone wants to go through with a killing spree.

But seriously, as whacked out as things are right now... is your child having to make up a test worth sending them to school on a day like tomorrow? Is it even worth you going into work tomorrow? 12/21/12 will be a good day for everyone to stay at home.

Glad to see nothing happened and hope everyone has a great holiday. I do believe a letter was sent out to all families. Can you imagine having to answer every call that came in?? Wha were you trying to get out of a call? LPISD you did and you do a great job of protecting our children.keep up the good work!!!

But then everyone would have to learn to work for someone else somewhere else. That's all public schools are... a place they teach you how to serve the 1%. If you want your child to be an original... and do something original with their life... don't send them to public school. But... if you want them to think the same way, act the same way and turn out the same as everyone else... by all means send them to public school.
